“Amazing Vacation!!!!!!!!”
Reviewed 13 April 2014 via mobile

I've been to my share if all inclusives and this was by far the best!!! The service was A+++!! The staff went above and beyond. We brought our two young girls and by the second day, the entertainment staff new their names and would greet them every time they saw them. There were always activities for them and even fun for the adults. The resort was immaculate and the food was great!!!! While we are not people that typically go to the same place twice bc we like to try new things, we will 100% come back to the Riu Palace in Costa Rica.

Went to the RIU Palce to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary even though we past our 31st! Great place - extremely clean and very attentive staff. Costa Ricans have to be some of the worlds hardest workers - always doing something and helpful.

All inclusive - have to be prepared to be patient when making dinner reservations since the sit down a-la-carte have limited seating for a resort this size. Options of 2 seating times - 6:15 and 8:15 PM. The Italiano is a first come and can usually find a table. The "Main" dining area is huge and food selection for any taste.

Pool areas are outstanding - bar service can get a little slow but probably just as well since all inclusive include alcohol. Ocean beach you will find the sand extremely hot so wear your sandals for sure.

Booking excursions is easy and competitive - 4-5 major tour groups within the Hotel - we chose Suisse and they were great. Cannot comment or compare since we only booked through them.

Be mindful you are in nature and respect this splendid country. Also be sure you are aware that this is an adventure and not a theme park so mother nature does rule so always think safety.

Thank you to all of the great staff at the RIU Palace - you are an awesome group and made our trip so enjoyable. Thank you to Maria our housekeeper - our room was always in first class shape and a welcome after a hard day at the pool. Jose Cappuccino - fun. All of the various bar tenders and waitstaff you are all awesome.

Room Tip: We stayed on the Garden/Pool view on the ground level and found it very convenient to reach all of t...

This RIU is absolutely worth going to for the hotel, for the service, for the food and for the excursions available nearby. Jose Cappuccino, employee by the Sport Bar, was great. Very professional and great human being. I took a large group of clients and we all loved this property.

Room Tip: I had a mountain view room. The only difference is the view: mountain/courtyard/ocean view. All room...

I can't say enough about our stay at the Riu Palace. A clean modern building with superior dining. The service was fantastic (I'm not sure where people were staying when they said the staff does not speak english). Everyone was friendly and enthusiastic. We ended up booking our off resort adventures on the beach with Cesar's Adventures. He was fantastic and made sure we all enjoyed ourselves. We also got a great deal! I would HIGHLY recommend visiting him on the beach (look for the guys in red shirts). We did an ATV tour, zip-lining excursion and a trip to Coco beach (this was quite touristy, but had a great lunch at one of the local bars).

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the theatre.

Stayed at this hotel for 9 days from March 27 Thru April 5. The Staff at the hotel are great. Everything else from the rooms to the food are just ok. It would probably be a 3 Star at best.
There is no bathroom by the pool area which was a huge turn off. The beach isn't finished no trees, no chairs, no waiters. We went over to the other Riu and found the beach there to be much better. They had entertainment by the pool which was really good. There is no top shelf liquor at the resort. The drinks are watered down. For a 4 star resort you would think that the alcohol would be top shelf or at least give you an option to pay for top shelf drinks. The food was ok. Service was good. The rooms was ok. We booked a suite with an outdoor hot tub which we did not use due to the location of it on the balcony it was in direct view of everyone using the elevator. The weather was great. Hot and Sunny everyday. We booked a couple of trips with Melvin from the tour desk He was fantastic if you go I would highly recommend using him, he is very knowledgeable. He hooked us up with Carlos from Guanacaste Tours who was the nicest person I have ever encountered on a trip. I loved the country of Costa Rica But I am not a fan of this resort. I would recommend people go to Costa Rica and try to find a different resort.

We stayed here 3/30 - 4/6. Food was excellent as was the entertainment. We had kids aged 7, 10, 11 & 13 with our party of 10. It's not the best kids resort we have been too as there were some adult drinking games. Don't stay at the sister property next door with kids, it looked like MTV spring break! Overall great and I would stay again.

Spent Mar 22-31st. Had a good time. Thanks to WALTER at the pool. Great service and great drinks. Booked special table in Arenal buffet. Brought birthday favours. Photographer booked too. Had a great suprise 50th party for my brother. Cake made by resort delicious.

Rented van for 6 people and went to zip lining, hot springs and mud baths. And then went to Tamarindo beach for a day. If you like the beach surfing lifestyle, go there. Shopping is not great. Prices very inflated in $ US. ALWAYS ASK THE PRICE IN COSTA RICAN MONEY. Do the calculations yourself. Money is roughly 500 to 1. So 1000 coronas is $2 US not $10 US Got ripped off. Drinks can be $10 Each. So check prices. Lunch for 6 was $125. Go to Liberia and shop at local stores. At the airport only duty free shop worth it. VERY expensive otherwise. By renting van we spent $350 vs $1700 buying tours. That included van, gas, attraction fees and meals. There are slipperybwhen wet signs all over resort for a reason

The tiles are deadly when wet. I slipped and broke my arm.

The place shut down at midnight. No night life Tamarindo for that.

The last comment. The beach is not great. Snorkeling poor. At low tide water stagnant and fishy. And the bathroom is very far from the pool. There were a lot of people in the pool. There was nobody in the bathroom. So where did they all pee?????? You got it. In the pool! !!!!!

Great place to go if you like hiking, jungles, critters, questionable pool water and quiet nights. Zip lining, HOT HOT HOT weather, monkeys, turtles, schools of fish. Purple gray and stainless steel decor.
