“Great All Inclusive resort for the price”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

This was a very nice all inclusive resort in Costa Rica. I was very impressed with this particular RIU. The hotel was very modern and clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and worked very hard at making sure everyone was accommodated. The only negative thing that I would have to say is that there is a major problem with bees in the pool area and pool bar. You can't enjoy your drinks because bees may attack you. One of my friends got stung by a bee in the pool. They really need to figure out a way to get the insects under control. Other than that I would recommend this resort. My friends and I had a great time.

This was a great all-inclusive trip. Hotel, pools and beach were excellent. Food was abundant and delicious. We ate in all the restaurants and each one was better than the one before. Drinks were all top brands and flowing freely. Only negatives were casino was sparse and games seemed to be rigged and shows were corny and dancers out of sync, but we went for the relaxation and good time and did't care about the entertainment. Spa is lovely and they have a good fitness center. Definitely would recommend Riu Palace Costa Rica - the newer one, not the Riu Guanacaste, which is right next door.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an ocean view or one with a jacuzzi on the balcony!!!

I stayed for 1 night in July from the 19th to the 18th with friends, it was my first time at Riu and was expecting a real 5* hotel. In my opinion the following are the pro's and con's:
Good Things:
1. Pool, very big pools with wet bar and very good service.
2. Lounges and Bars over the hotel, many places to be at night.
3. The facilities of the hotel are very beautiful.
4. Rooms are big and the style is very nice.
Cons:
1. We reserved a Triple room, it had 2 single beds and a sofa bed. The beds were a bit wider than single but not as a full or queen bed, comfortable for 1 person. Therefore if you are three in the room, the sofa bed should be used. In this case, I assume that the room has blankets and everything for it, but NO, it does not have anything to get the bed done. It only has 2 blankets but for the beds as they only have one sheet for you to cover.
2. The room did not even have Shampoo, the dispenser was almost empty and it was soap. We had to take out the cap of the dispenser in order to be able to get some soap as the button to get it was not working and we could not get soap from the bottom of the dispenser. Also, there was only a small bottle of conditioner and another bottle with body lotion.
3. The restaurant for lunch, we went for lunch and the tables did not even have forks to eat (happened in the two lunch we ate there), you had to wait for a while or ask for it so that the waiters give you some so that you could eat. I would expect to have the tables put on time.
4. At the dinner, my sister ate pasta and she had to ask the waiter to heat the food as it was cold, mine was not that hot, but wasn't cold.
5. The Show at the pool in the afternoon was awful! Children could be around! The show was to have around 5 women doing some "sexy" walk and some "sexy" poses and then do some butt shaking while the presenter throws beer over the person. I am not a feminist or anything like that but for me was disgusting! For men, the activity was to throw darts, for women, it was a disrespectful show. One of the "ladies" wanted to take out the top of her bathing suit, the presenter did not allowed her but still her boobs were still out of the top when she turned around.Very bad show, I would expect it in a cheap hotel, not in one of the "best" ones in Guanacaste.
I am very sure that I will not go back there. I heard that Riu Guanacaste is much better, I would have to try, but at least the Palace is a very bad place. My three stars are because of the facilities.

Hubby and I stayed at the RUI PALACE 7/19/14 - 7/26/14 - 8 days to celebrate our 22nd wedding anniversary. Upon check in - we had no problems - check in was fast - we were in room 3033 and we had an awesome view from our balcony. Our 1st time in Costa Rica and yes, the Natives are very nice and polite and friendly. The room was nice and kind of RETRO 80's style and very clean. Sodas, waters stocked every day in our room, maids were wonderful and did a great job cleaning our room daily. Only problem about this resort - bees were all over the place - from the pool/s areas and even on the 3rd floor terrace - resort needs to use a better method of keeping the bees and wasps away from guests with better bug exterminators. As for the beach in front of the resort - also full of bees swarming guests. The beach not so pretty black sand beaches and dark pacific blueish gray ocean water - we prefer the Caribbean ocean ie; CANCUN. There are tons of monkeys by the resort and you can hear them howling from your room - pretty amazing. We rented a car for 2 days through THRIFTY in the LOBBY and Kathleen their REP was amazing - she even plugged in destination/ short cuts for us in our GPS since Costa Rica doesn't have street addresses. Actually Costa Rica only has a 2 lane street and a lot of un-paved roads - thank goodness we rented a 4 wheel drive. As for the buffet - it was wonderful food was delicious from breakfast to dinner. RESORT was super clean only down fall was the infestation of bees and wasps inside the resort. Casino was down the road - we visited nightly - smallest Casino ever been in maybe 60 slot machines. Another down fall of the RUI PALACE - No ATM Machine inside hotel lobby - Only ATM available opens up at 4pm inside Casino and no stores inside Lobby - stores are all outside of the resort by the Casino down the street.

Room Tip: our room 3033 - third floor close to live entertainment nightly - very loud - but by 1130pm music wa...

PROS:
Staff: Extremely nice and helpful (I found Costa Ricans to be the nicest people I have met)
Service: Attentive and quick, Polite
Buffet: Excellent breakfast, Fresh sea food, Steaks, salads, high quality fish every day. Loved the freshly squeezed fruit juices in the morning.
The view: Nice . Most rooms have the ocean or the mountain view.
Pool: Nice, less crowded, clean and well maintained.
Area Tours: Good price (Negotiable) and beautiful scenery. The commute can be very long (Up to 4 hours). They use Air conditioned buses which is very pleasant for the climate.
Safety: Very safe county. Costa Rica has a 97% literacy rate. Very welcoming to foreigners.
Water: They use natural wells and the water is very safe to drink even the non-bottled.

CONS:
Hotel store: Extremely expensive. Pack everything before.
Drinks: Not the best quality liquor used.
Beds: Very firm. They offer King or full beds. No queens. (This is a RUI thing)
Bee Season: June & July is the bee season and they are all over the sugary drinks. Unlike what some people say, there were absolutely no mosquitos present in mid-July.
Night life: Dull. The nightly shows end at 10 and every one goes to bed.
Disco & Casino: Small & Mostly closed or dead. Minimum bet is $10.
The restaurants/Non Buffet: Don’t even bother. Same food as the buffet. Did not try the steak house.
Ocean: Not the Caribbean water. Although the water is clean and warm. Not very wavy.

Beautiful Hotel that sparkles with elegance but keeps it Costa Rican natural roots conveniently located on the Pacific Ocean. Could be a 5 star hotel if they would give that extra boost in food and service accommodations. Close to great activities with a pleasant and helpful staff. Daniel Rojas (front desk) and Mauricio Diaz (dining) were great and helped us with any requests! This is a great vacation resort destination for adults or familes alike.

Room Tip: well worth the balcony sunsets on the oceanfront room options!

First off this place is breath taking. The pictures doesn't give you the absolute wow factor. The reason for the 4 star as oppose to 5 is the room service although they did a great job it was never done at a consistent time... The first night we had to call to have someone clean the room well after 3pm... Sometimes after breakfast it was done most of the time it was well after lunch..

Secondly the buffet food was very delish but not many choices, I or two items would be added but it was basically the same every morning/night.

The Steakhouse wasn't good at all surprising because the other cuts of meat at the buffet or BBQ at the pool was great.
The Japanese restaurant didn't there.
The Italian was far the best but not very filling.
The Asian fusion was ok.

The in room bar was ok not the best selection of liqueur but it was ok.. The fridge stayed stocked which was great.

The pools was great I was bit a annoyed at the amount of kids in every pool even the one with the bar.. There should be a designated family pool area in my opinion.

Get your walking shoes ready. Nothing is close to the resort you have a nice walk to just about everything..

Coco. Beach was ok in my opinion.. A small tourist area to buy keepsakes.. Not that much cheaper than the hotel and no hassle
Overall this place was amazing, the weather was good sun is always out even behind the clouds.

Just beware of the players club restaurant at the airport. That place is a complete ripoff for halfway decent food and little to no service. We ordered 1 fruit salad (1/2 of a banana sliced in two, 2 pieces of papaya and pineapple) 1 fish tacos, 1 rum punch total bill $58.. They charge almost half of your bill in some sort of tax and gratuity when asked to explain they couldn't... This place left such a sour taste in our mouth after such a beautiful vacation.

Room Tip: Make sure you get an ocean view room. Although it's set back it is an amazing site to see the su...
