“Surprising gorge in the middl of no where”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

Were not planning on stopping here but it was only 10km off the highway. A moderate walk in over a billabong, along a river bank past small pools finally ended up (about 1km in) at a huge deep waterfall and swimming pool.If you want to get to the one above look left just before you cross the river and there is a goat track leading you up to the other side of the river and so you end up looking down on the gorge.
Large Barramundi (Maguk) fish and trumpet fish. Take your googles and floaties as the swim is about 100 metres long.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

To get to Maguk (Barramundi) Gorge you travel for 10 km along an unsealed road with a very small section of deep sand (dried creek crossing). If you were lucky like we were to have the grader go through the drive is a breeze, otherwise except a teeth rattling journey along the corrugations.
From the car park it's a beautiful 1 km walk along the monsoon forest following the crystal clear creek, then a small water crossing and some decent rock hopping. After the last hurdle, this amazing large pool emerges. Make sure you wear good walking shoes and your swimmers.

“Best secret in Kakadu”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

A 12 km dirt track with about 200 metres of sand in the middle of the journey. Road was in good condition - 4wd first time! Then a 30 minute walk over rocks and through water (during dry season) but only knee deep at the most. Arrive to a magnificent waterfall and waterhole. People swimming here - not us!

“Great when you get there”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

The first part of the walk is beautiful then you hit the rocks (400 metres). I hate walking over rocks (boulders) so did not enjoy this very much. When you get there the swimming hole and waterfall are beautiful and not as cold as other swimming holes at Kakadu. If you are fit and enjoy jumping from rock to rock you will love it.

“We loved it!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 June 2014

We really like the hike in and thought the entire area was just awesome, the swimming was brilliant. There were cliff jumpers but we decided against that. As an aside you must have a 4WD suitable for soft sand to access Maguk by car.
