“Get In Touch With Nature”
Reviewed 3 January 2012

First visit to Darwin, the Northern Territory, and especially Kakadu. Going there, and especially staying in Gagudju Lodge Cooinda, tells a lot about what top end vacation is all about. Surrounded by Kakadu National Park, it offers wide range of stay; from plain room, fancy lodge to caravan.
I went there during wet season, but spent most of the day outside the room. Not because there isn't much in the room (a TV with limited channels, and several magz about Kakadu area), but the whole idea of enjoying Kakadu is about staying outside. The thick-green surrounding the property. Chillin' top end breeze indeed, but they have a nice Barra Bistro & Bar to warm the day. Saw some families with kids playing by the pool in the middle of the cold. Whew..
If you like getting in touch with nature, the pair -Kakadu National Park and Gagudju Lodge Cooinda- is suitable for your great escape. Don't forget to take the Yellow Water Cruise Sunrise from the lodge to experience the rich natural beauty of Kakadu.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.

As you mentioned Cooinda is the ideal place to stay in Kakadu as we are located on the door step of the world famous Yellow Water cruises and are also in the perfect location if you want to explore Jim Jim and Twin Falls and Nourlangie to view some breathtaking rock art.

Did you experience Warradjan Cultural Centre while you stayed with us at Cooinda? It is located 1km from Cooinda and is filled with history and information regarding the Traditional Owners of Yellow Water and Cooinda as well as the history of the local area.

Thank you once again for your valuable feedback.

This place is completely remote, not cel connection. We ad a lodge room and it was great. they have 2 swimming pools, a good cafe and a shop that seems to serve the camping ground. The cruise they run is also amazing - we did the sunrise one and it was fantastic - it also included breakfast.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.

We are extremely pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.

As you mentioned we are in a remote location and as such we generate our own power and treat our own water and sewerage, all things that make Cooinda a very unique property. Only Cell phone coverage we have in this region is through Telstra.

Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. We hope to welcome you back in Cooinda to try our All Day Adventure Tour to explore the most inaccessible parts of Kakadu.

Kind Regards

I was a little hesitant about staying here after reading some negative reviews, but found it was a pleasant suprise. It was very quiet due to being Wet Season & New Years Eve. The room was nice & comfortable & clean. The only issue we had was that there was 2 or 3 locals in adjoining rooms having a bit of a party way past midnight in the courtyard facing ours. Kept us awake until around 2am.....but it was New Years eve. Had a steak at the bistro which was good & considering the remote location, not too expensive. Saw no evidence of mosquitoes or flies that I see others had complained about. The Yellow Waters cruise was fantastic. So good, we did it twice. 1 tip with the Yellow Waters Cruise that I found on the official website, but doesnt seem widely advertised. If you book 1 cruise, you are entitled to do a 2nd cruise for only $10. We did both the early morning cruise & the late afternoon cruise. Thorougly enjoyed both.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.

We are extremely pleased that you had an enjoyable time at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda, Barra Bistro and Yellow Water Cruise. As mentioned by you, many visitors do the cruise twice to see the change in the wildlife at different times of the day. Sunrise and Sunset Cruise are by far the most popular cruise times to be on Yellow Water.

I would like to sincerely apologise for the noise issue during your stay. I can assure you that, if reported, we endeavor to resolve all the noise complaints on the property.

Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. We hope to welcome you back to try our new Yellow Water fishing tour.

The location of this Lodge in Kakadu NP is perfect. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Nice gardens to sit in outside our room. Beautifull swimming pools, very clean. Helpfull to have a petrol station on the site without having to go miles looking for fuel. The Yellow Water Cruise was excellent. The only downside, we thought was that the food in the restaurant was pricey, although is was good and well prepared. I expect we should have expected to pay a little more due to the location that we were in.

With regards to your comments about our prices, there are a number of factors that influence this including our Indigenous Employment Program that the property has funded for several years with hundreds of Indigenous youth participating, housing for up to 80 staff, water and sewage treatment, power generation, frieght costs as well as other costs that are unique to operating a business in a remote location.

Stayed in a camp site for one night, campsite was very full and the sites are extremely small and very little privacy between them. However the location is great for the Yellow Waters Billabong sunrise trip. The pool is a welcome relief in the heat of the day and especially needed as sitting at your campsite is not much fun staring at your neighbours. Shower block facilities are OK clean enough considering the huge numbers using them.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.

I note that you travelled in August. The peak demand times for Kakadu National Park are in July and August and as such the resort is very busy during these two months. We do try to space campers out as much as possible and have recently extended our camp ground in an effort to provide more space.

As your mentioned Cooinda is an ideal place to stay in Kakadu as we are located on the door step of the world famous Yellow Water cruises and are also in the perfect location if you want to explore Jim Jim and Twin Falls and Nourlangie to view some breathtaking rock art.

Our large pool with it's beautiful waterfall is certainly one of our most popular facilities amongst our guests, we are glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. We hope to welcome you back to try our new Yellow Water fishing tour.

Very good accommodation and great service in a very remote location. This lodge is a long way from anywhere, but you wouldn't know it in terms of the service and the comforts. Air con kept the room very comfortable, and the staff kept it clean and the bugs out of sight. Good food at the bistro, well prepared. Nothing is cheap here, but that's not to be expected in a location such as this.
One note for non-Australians: I was unable to book my room using the lodge's website - I could not figure out how to get the site to accept my non-Australian address. I ended up booking by exchanging email with the lodge, which is not a safe way to send credit card numbers. You may want to book by phone.

We had the most fabulous five days at Gagudju Lodge as part of a two family trip. We took two rooms for two adults plus our three female teenagers. We started with a magical sunset tour of Yellow Waters Billabong which had cameras snapping continually in an effort to capture the abundant wildlife from the bird life to the numerous crocodiles lounging on the banks or gliding goggle-eyed through the water. A fishing trip was a huge highlight with middle daughter catching a 73cm barramundi, when the 8 year old boy from the other family also hooked a whopper that the chef very kindly cooked up for us in great style. A trip to Jim Jim Falls was another real winner with everyone, teenage and adult. Gagudju Lodge was a great base for exploring Kakadu with the bonus that you could arrange all the trips through reception. The staff couldn't have been friendlier and the lagoon style pool was just what everyone needed after a hot day's exploration of the National Park. We left somewhat reluctantly as we could easily have spent another couple of days in the area. Overall a great base for a family holiday - when I asked the teenagers for their favourite "WOW'" moment they had so many that they couldn't come up with just one - which I guess gives it top rating from us!

Room Tip: As between the two families we had four rooms we took a block right at the edge of the accommodation...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review regarding your recent stay at Gagudju Lodge Cooinda.

Certainly sounds like you have experienced much of what Kakadu has to offer. The sunset tour is one of our most popular tours and as you have mentioned it truly is a magical experience.

We were pleased to hear that you tried our new fishing tour on Yellow Water, a 73cm Barra is certainly something to be very proud of!

It was also great that you enjoyed all our facilities and our friendly staff, I will certainly share this with the team.

On your next trip to Kakadu be sure to jump onto our Gagudju Dreaming website to book all your accommodation and tours.
