“Lovely!”
Reviewed 29 October 2013

Found this place on the map and a quick search of this site confirmed our decision to give it a go. Well everyone is right, this is a hidden gem. Beautiful lush lawns, great showers and toilets. The owners were absolutely lovely. Unfortunately we weren't able to experience the fire and bar but it was close to the wet season and with only 6 people (including us) the night we stayed, it would have been hardly worth their while.
All in all a very pleasant experience and definitely worth the stop!

We stopped here after deciding the accommodation options in Tennant Creek were grim. The reviews we read were positive and the experience we had was as well. We got there early afternoon which was a good thing as it seems to be quite a popular stopover for campers on the highway. We got a shady spot under a tree immediately kicked back and read. The place is full of outback charm and a photographers dream at sunset and sunrise. The farm has a few animals which serves as good entertainment when with children. The bar opens at night and a cold beer goes down a treat after a long day on the road. The stars at night were better than any thing I have ever seen camping! A real treat.

Room Tip: Get there earlier to be sure to grab a spot.

We stayed here by chance on our way up to Darwin and then made it part of our trip on the way back. Just lovely and the caretakers were so friendly. Was nice and quiet except for the generator they have to use. We got to stay in the permanent tents on the way back which was a nice break from putting up the tent. Highly recommend.

This historic cattle station is a relaxed stop along the Stuart Highway. We travelled from Alice Springs to Banka Banka Station on our outback adventure journey. The owners are a little bit eccentric which beautiful match with the environment and boozed the total experience. We also loved the station dog which has a loose sparkle. The campsites are spacious and the shower was clean and nice hot water. During the evening the owner lit up a big campfire and we had a pleasant chat with him and the rest of the visitors.

On the way to Darwin we made an early start across the Barkly highway and got to Banka Banka just after lunch, the homestead looked inviting but we made the decision to press on. Big mistake. Spent the night finally in a rest area regretting not stopping, so on the way back we did not make the same error and stopped for the night. As others have said it is pleasant to stop on grass with good toilets, showers and kitchen facilities along with a good campfire. The hosts are a pleasant couple making you feel welcome.

We stayed on our way to Darwin and couldn't wait to get back on our way home. Had a bush poet on the way up and C&W musician on the way home. Lovely shady spots, 9.5kg washing machine for $2. Inexpensive and so full of travellers guaranteed to share some many stories. Promote travellers to share their in their talents over the camp-fire.
My three children loved it here and have even named one of our camping recipes in honour of one of their favourite places.

23rd July we stayed at Banka Banka after being to Mataranka and it is definitely value for money.$20 for 2people grass sites, hot showers that have terrific water pressure, friendly staff, kiosk which opens at 6pm and a bar. Also there is a hill for the more energetic you can climb which has the australian flag flying and a pole with signs pointing to distant places. If you have children and it is hot the staff give them an ice block each.It does not have powered sites but generators are allowed until 8pm.Avisable to try and get there early as it gets full pretty quickly,as this was our second time we knew the earlier the better. They also have a horse which appears to have befriended a calf so something for the children to have a look at.recommend a stay there.
