“Hill Safari Eco Lodge - Super place to RELAX”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2013

Our Family stayed at Hill Safari during the period 20th to 22nd July 2013. It was a super place. We were welcomed very warmly by Mr Eomal Perera and the care takers Mr Karunaratne and Mr Francis. They were very friendly. Always with a smile .. Food was awesome. What ever we wanted, they provided us with everything. We stayed in the new building and the rooms were really good. Had all the facilities. The view from the new building was really nice. Cool place to relax and enjoy the holiday. Its very close to the Ohiya Station. We will definitely visit "HILL SAFARI ECO LODGE" . Wish you every success.

Road to Hill Safari should be done a little bit. That's the only complaint I have :)

Cheers - Angela Dias Udawela - Sri Lanka

Room Tip: The new building is the best, specially the Upstairs.

We spent 2 nights and found our stay very pleasant and the owner and his staff very cordial. The room that we occupies, upstairs/new wing, was very comfortable and the toilet was modern, very clean and well maintained.
The food was tasty.
The location is fantastic for anyone interested in long treks or in just peace and quiet. This is also ideal for anyone to make a base camp for visits to Horton Plains or to enjoy nature.
Thank you Eomal and your staff. We will be there again.

Room Tip: The room we stayed in has a lovely view and private. Suggest you select this or the room below.

We stayed 3 nights in May. The owner Mr Perera could not have been more helpful and kind right from the moment we made our reservation. We stayed in the upstairs room in the new wing and renovations to the main building were just being completed. The view here is amazing, the room very nice with good clean modern bathroom. Food is ok breakfast rottis and pack up breakfasts are great. You can stride out around the tea plantation which is wonderful. We took a tuk tuk up to Horton Plains and enjoyed spectacular views and the walk, which is not quite as easy as some might lead you to believe but hugely rewarding. Train is a great way to get to Ohiya from Colombo or Ella and the lodge is about 20 mins by tuk or van which Mr P happily organises for you. The drive down the mountainside to the lodge is not for the seriously faint hearted! We will definitely be heading back for more of the same.

We traveled there in mid April and stayed 3 days at the lodge. The weather was ok and was a bit cold. We took the new wing top floor with a magnificent view and we recommend that for anyone coming here. The food was great, people were amazing and was very helpful. While we were there we went to horton plains on a tuk tuk and that would cost you around Rs. 2000 (the driver waits till you finish the track and comes back).
Another interesting thing you can do is take the train to Haputale. There are 14 tunnels between Ohiya and the next station (Idalgashinna). We really enjoyed the stay there and is hoping to go again when time permits.

This place is really nice, the rooms are big, clean, full of style and good taste. The dinner was one of the best dinner in Sri Lanka! The owner is a kind one, very nice and ready ti help us. This lodge is perfect if you want to visit Horton Plains, is 15 minutes from Ohya railstation (you can take a tuk tuk) and about 20 minutes from the entrance of Horton Plains. Sleeping in Nuwara Elya would be very unconfortable to visit Horton Plains!

We stayed 3 nights prebooked here. Our room was good with a sitting area outside . The staff a are very friendly and keen to show off Sri lankan cooking. The walks in the tea plantations were lovely and evidently the dogs know their own way home but I would check the sketch map too. Getting here is part of the fun using the hill railways and tuk tuks . Bring an umbrella and a good book as you are a long way from any town but the peace and the views are great.

We were very glad to have found this place and stayed for five nights. It’s a beautiful, quiet guesthouse with a gentle, laid back atmosphere and gorgeous views. There are trails leading through the surrounding tea plantations and you can even walk all the way to Horton Plains (World’s End is about 7 miles walk from the lodge). We chose to get a lift to Horton Plains then walk to World’s End and back to the lodge, which was about 9 miles in total.

The food is lovely and the staff very obliging. We appreciated the effort they made to vary the food for us, given that we were staying for five nights. Our room was the upstairs one with a balcony, so we were able to enjoy the changing views as the clouds rolled in and out. When it’s clear you can see all the way across Uda Walawe Reservoir to the South coast of Sri Lanka.

If you have the time, it's well worth staying for at least a few days to explore the surrounding areas. The view from the top of the hill nearby is better than World's End and you don't have to share it with anyone else!
