“Would recommend for family/friends with teenagers”

The owner and caretaker are both helpful, and the house has been decorated with care and attention. The kitchen facilities are ok and the bedrooms and showers are very good. We went with our children (age 10 & 9) and friends with their children (age 10, 7 & 5). We did have a good time there, but would not choose to book again because the pool cannot be seen from the house, is not gated and we could not get the pool alarm to work. For a family with older children the house would work well, as the bedrooms are spacious and the lack of visibility of the pool would not be an issue. The village of Sainte-Alvere is great, has everything that you need from the bakery, a little supermarket that sells local produce, galleries etc and a wonderful weekly market.

“Beautifully situated in heart of Dordogne spacious house lovely pool and lovely village”
Reviewed 3 August 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Very easy to get to with lots of things to do nearby. A perfect large family holiday house. The pool was great. The gardens although large are on a slope however the park across the road was perfect for boule and other games. The village was warm and welcoming. Our stay coincided with the Truffle festival and the local duck farm hosting a BBQ. Both events were terrific fun. Caves canoes chateaux were all close by. Only thing missing was somewhere to hire bikes.

“A little piece of heaven”
Reviewed 23 June 2013 for a stay in July 2012

The title says it all really. This place has everything we could want, and, travelling with kids, we needed everything.
For the grown ups, this house is not only gorgeous, with a traditional, rural style, it’s also relaxing. It’s peaceful. Set up it’s own road and surrounded by vast greenery and woodland, there are hidden nature spots all over this property. Perfect for picnics and hunting for glow worms. Yes, there are glow worms. It took me right back to my childhood. Just remember to let them go afterwards.
Now it’s rustic charm doesn’t mean we actually had a holiday in the Middle Ages. There was more than enough technology to keep anyone of any age happy. Wifi, TV, games consoles, an amazing shower; if the weather hadn’t been so gorgeous, I might have spent a lot more time in that shower.
As it was, the pool was a perfect alternative. Decked with sun loungers so we could bake to our hearts content, it also has a shaded terrace where the kids could play when it was too hot. The pool was big enough to swim laps in when the delicious village’s fresh baked goods made me feel guilty. They were delicious though. You must try them all.
The bakery is in the heart of the small village, not even five minutes walk, along with a butchers, a small supermarket and a farmers market with local produce and crafts every week. We had everything we needed, and didn’t have to venture too far out if we didn’t want to.
For those that want to explore? We found a car was definitely necessary to reach some of the surrounding areas and their attractions. The large supermarket was a short drive away, and we found ourselves stocking up on treats and basics and only using the small village one to top up when we ran out.
The castles nearby are beautiful and are well worth a visit, most of them were child friendly and had enough to keep everyone's attention. Jacquou Parc is there when the kids need to let off steam and is the cutest place with animals, a water park and a bunch of rides. It's a pay one price for the whole day sort of deal and well worth the money.
So, all in all, this holiday was one of the best I've had and I know it was in no small part to the tranquility of the property and the area. I'd love to come back.

“SPACIOUS HOUSE IN THE TRUE FRENCH STYLE”
Reviewed 14 April 2013 for a stay in June 2011

We spent two weeks in this beautiful setting with three generations of family. The house is
very spacious and traditional with beautiful decor and a choice of outside seating areas with a fabulous elevated pool with wonderful views of the countryside. Nice woodland walk on grounds and a short stroll to the quaint village of St Alvere (with its 15th century church). Sit ouside the cafe where you can enjoy a beer and watch the world go by. We visited some spectacular castles overlooking the Dordogne river and ate in some top quality restaurants all within half an hour drive of the house. Highly recommended.
