“Hidden gem in the middle of the Aracena Sierra”
Reviewed 1 April 2014

There are few things that you expect when you are driving along an otherwise unnoticed itty bitty town in your way to Aracena.

We had driven through this town a hundred times before, and never bothered to stop by to eat something because from the road the place looked... shall I say boring? ordinary? uneventful?

But alas, on this one time, we had a car with two children that were cranky because they had not eaten. We were past their lunch time, and far away from Aracena (our next stop). So we decided to take a break, I mean... how bad could it be? We found a central location, and... hey! that looks like a nice place. We sat down, looked at the menu (surprisingly sophisticated) and .... OMFG!

This food would give any restaurant in a major city a run for its money. The service was spectacular, friendly, honest, and the food.... oh my god the food. Just to die for. We sat in the high tables where you can get tapas and we just could not stop ordering: mushrooms, eggplant, cheese, foie-gras...

We felt dirty having an orgy in our mouth right in front of our children, but it was completely amazing. They were even so nice as to fix our kids some off-the-menu plain chicken with potatoes (it really was kids' loss). We wrapped up the lunch with some of the most exciting liquors locally brewed specially for the local legion. It does not get any more authentic than that.

Afterwards, the owner came to talk to us and just hang out. It turned out he was the pharmacist that helped and filled my father's prescriptions for decades. After he retired, he just went to this culinary heaven to help his son with the business. Can I sign up for that deal right now!?

If you are looking for a piece of authentic piece of the trendiest Spanish cuisiine at 1/10th of the cost look no further. If the poor fool that runs the Michelin guide knew where "Higuera de la Sierra" is he would waste no time getting here and rating the restaurant. Get there before he does, and brag to your friends about knowing an outstanding place to eat and enjoy the finer pleasures of life before other people did.

Visit Jacaranda. You will tell your friends about it and you will be more popular amongst them for having done so.

Enrique

“Fine Dining in a hidden away secluded spot”
Reviewed 2 December 2013

Jacaranda is a treasured find for us, featuring fine dining in a hidden away traditional village restaurant, with very reasonable prices.

The service and food are first class and there's always a very warm welcome from everyone. This family-run bar and restaurant is in the centre of a picturesque village in the Natural Park, and seems to be a favourite haunt of weekend visitors from Seville, Huelva and Extremadura.

Organic Iberian Pork and locally collected mushrooms are among the fresh ingredients used. Everything is wonderfully prepared and served; we loved the finest creamy homemade Pate with crisp garlic toasts, Creamy Rice with Mushrooms, the succulent and perfectly cooked (al punto) Fillet Steak, Aubergines in a crisp and light Tempura batter served on a drizzle of Pedro Jimenez sauce, and the lovely selection of indulgent and interesting desserts......gorgeous.

A lovely experience, we’ll be back soon!
