“Great opportunity”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2014

The facilities have the making of a great resort. Your a good 2 hours from Panama City and the attractions are driveable if you have a car and willing to take day trips. We rented a car at the airport from Dollar Rent a Car and put 500miles on the vehicle visting Gamboa Rain Forest;Panama Canal; Coronado;Penome;Farollon;Fiesta Casino
The side trips were great but would not have been needed if the Resort had more sgheduled activities.

Golf $135 plus $45 rental clubs to play in 95 degree heat and 10-15 mile wind on and average resort course

Two yoga classes for the 8days I was there

In comparison to other JW this fell short--More yoga classes/aerobics/water aerobic/nature walk
Discounted Golf for Guest/Afternoon play .

The personnel at the Resort were very Nice
Conciege Daniel Gomez was exceptionally helpful

The food and waite staff were very good/Ocassionally you encounted someone that could not understand you and they would get a co-worker to assit.
This gated resort with single family homes/villas/and condos has a great potential.

Room Tip: Inside facing pool 3rd floor

A stunning yet sterile and generic resort encapsulated within a Millionaire's housing estate. As with any high end hotel, exquisite rooms, comfortable beds and wonderful immediate surroundings. However the complete lack of customer service from the front of house team and exclusions of wifi and breakfast on the $360 room rate is disappointing. The sushi restaurant was first rate, as was the waiting service. A little overpriced but they gave us some free special rolls which was appreciated.

Were we in Panana, Cancun or Tennerife? Who knows...one night was quite enough thanks.

This hotel is in a large gated beach community several hours away from Panama City and definitely not worth the trip or any visit for that matter. Virtually nothing ostensibly available was actually available and one was essentially stranded in a remote place with one place to eat dinner and very little to do. Our room was large and beautiful with a four poster king bed, a seating area and a terrace overlooking the pool with a glimpse of the ocean over the trees and certainly we could not have asked for anything better from the room perspective except for the view of houses under construction along the beach. The staff in the restaurant in the hotel was helpful and the food there was pretty good which was a relief since it was the only place to eat breakfast or dinner. The problem was the rest of the resort or such as it was. The pictures of the hotel show an ocean front pool but the ocean front pool actually is at a beach club a walk away through a residential neighborhood. The beach itself is small, brown and narrow and there did not appear to be any of the water sports available on site. There is a restaurant at the beach club that served lunch and was ok but was closed for dinner. The advertised Italian restaurant at the hotel was also closed even though it was stated to be a dining option on a flyer we were provided at check in and no one could give us any information about the steak house either. I think it may have been at the golf club but if so, no one could tell us and there seemed to be no way to get there anyway. There was a boat on the lagoon near the hotel but the only way one seemingly could take a boat ride was if one was looking at real estate with a realtor. The deli and shop near the hotel were independently operated. The deli was always closed and everything the shop had to sell could have fit in my handbag. There simply wasn't anything there. The realtor was open but we weren't in the market for real estate. However, the biggest disappointment were what I consider to be basics- such as beach towels. They were supposedly available at the hotel pool but day after day they were not available because they had not been washed from the day before. The pool staff was apologetic but it was inexcusable and the very nice pool cabanas did not make up for the lack of essential towels. Finally, late each morning they were brought out to the pool but they could have and should have been laundered overnight. The multi level hotel pool also did not seem to be cleaned as it should have been. In fairness, it rained hard every afternoon we were there but the hotel pool just got dirtier and dirtier from the run off from the grounds. It could have and should have been cleaned but perhaps the filter was not working. Supposedly a nearby military base is being converted to a commercial airport so that guests will not have to take the multi hour trip from Panama City to visit but without substantial improvement the hotel will not be worth a visit regardless of the ease of the trip. It seemed to be there at best as a benefit for nearby houses or as a place to stay while looking at the real estate for sale not as a worthwhile destination itself. I have never stayed at a more disappointing Marriott resort.

I did quite a bit of research to select a top-notch hotel for our family to enjoy a few beach days while visiting Panama and I can truly say we hit the jackpot with the JW Marriott Panama! We also traveled with other family members who already want to plan a trip back here next year. Although the drive from the city to this hotel's location is about 1.5 hours, once you arrive, the open air concept lobby welcomes you with a relaxing ocean breeze and their hospitable staff. The hotel is quite new and feels brand new overall with beautiful landscaping and palm trees galore! The views all over the hotel are stunning and the rooms are cozy and elegant. We traveled with three children under the age of 5 and they enjoyed the pool areas and hotel's location on the beach. During the afternoon, Pedro, our server in the "El Faro" pool area was fantastic! He should get an award for his great attention to detail and making sure we had everything we needed and making sure all of us, especially the kids had everything we needed. We also ate in most their restaurants and the food was delicious. If you visit, order the "sancocho" soup as it is a great version of a local favorite. I can't wait to go back again next time we are back in Panama.

When you pay $500 per night you normally have some expectations. It was a Saturday night that I stayed there and there seemed to be a party next door! I called the security, they could not find a solution. The noise got worse and worse. It was 3 AM in the morning and it was impossible to sleep. It is with great regret the hotel management could not find a solution. They moved me to another room at around 4 AM, but my sleep was already ruined. I guess they were reluctant to say anything to the VIP party animals!
I tried to talk to the hotel manager next morning. The receptionist made me wait 20 minutes end the excellency did not show up. I guess he was too busy.

The other issue is the service. You should consider yourself lucky if you get a coke within 45 minutes after you ask one. They simply don't care. And there are not enough waiters around. You need to get up and look for one.

They built these little multiple swimming pools, size of a triple size bathtub, however they are dirty and I suggest you avoid it.

Try not to go there during a weekend.

If you want to detach from the day to day in a place extremelly close by Panama city, do not hesitate to go there, amazing experience. The dedication the employees put at your service is very appreciated at all times.

Spent a week here in villa 22 with family of 8 and was very pleased. The trip from the airport -as many others have stated- is long - 2 hours minimum and if there is traffic in Panama City it can easily be 3 so just be aware and set expectations is all. The grounds are immaculate and gorgeous. So quiet and peaceful. With five different pools you can find your own little space to kick back. The main pool cabanas get reserved quite early - usually by 7 am- which can be annoying especially when you do not see anyone using them all day. But the beach is enormous and usually deserted as well. We walked for miles and rarely saw anyone.

The villa was wonderful. There is a private plunge pool for every villa which, for some reason, they do not highlight on their website. Plenty of room to relax on the patio, two hammocks, five very comfortable chairs, two tables and a couch. The rooms were large and the bathrooms amazing. Beds are supremely comfortable. And housekeeping is prompt and very courteous.

Service is really the only issue they have. The restaurant service is painfully slow. And combined with the language barrier its kind of difficult to enjoy. If you have the right attitude and do not expect great and constant service the food was worth it. Not premium quality but enjoyable. Air conditioning didnt work our first two nights in the villa and getting it repaired was really a challenge. I know, stop complaining. But it really is needed when its usually 90+ every day. We were looking up spanish phrases and the maintenance folks would nod and try something but it didnt work. Finally they replaced the thermostat..but it was a constant effort and trips to the front desk.

Hardly anyone speaks english and we certainly tried speaking spanish but usually failed. We ordered some groceries for our villa and 1 Lb of oranges comically was translated, somehow, to 118 oranges. We had a good laugh over this but were shocked to see our cabana overflowing with produce. Five cantaloupes turned in to 25...we ended up giving alot of them to the house keeping folks!

The panama canal tour is impressive. Again, a long drive back to the city but get on a small boat and travel the canal right next to tankers and cargo ships. Pretty impressive and the locks are amazing to watch as the ships pass through. We toured into the jungle and saw howler moneys and iguanas and sea turtles. A long day..but fun and educational.

the daily breakfast was a treat for us ...pretty impressive selection of fruits, crepes, omelettes...no need for lunches!

aside from marginal service this is a wonderful resort that has so much potential to be great.

Room Tip: villas are quiet and spacious...recommend them
