bring a book, enjoy tranquility, the place was not very busy!! the only thing is that is like 2 hours from the airport, but is a great ride if you arrive in the day.

Beautiful property. The hotel is a very relaxing, with multiple pools, bars and dining options. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the distance from the airport in Panama City. The golf course is also very nice.
The hotel was not very busy so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Meeting rooms and catering were also very good.

We recently spent two nights at the JW Marriott Buenaventura in Panama. We had 2 very comfortable, adjoining rooms and were a party with one 6-year-old child. The roll-away bed for the child was of good quality, not your average flimsy wobbly extra bed. The breakfast buffet was very good. I am not a fan of buffets, but this was well thought out with good variety and the option for custom / fresh-to-order crepes, waffles, and omelettes...and I was very happy with the buffet on both days. (There was also the option to order from the menu.) We tried two of the restaurants during our stay and enjoyed good food at both. The beach is beautiful, vast and as we were there during the slow period, we had it all to ourselves. The many pools are lovely, but in need of repair in spots...the tropics take their toll, but the hotel seemed to be starting maintenance on a few items, taking advantage of the low number of guests. Service was very good. The staff made an effort, greeted one with eye contact and a smile, and many spoke english... which is not necessarily to be expected in Panama. There was a kids club however, we did not use it. The playground for kids was very cool. Would be good if they planted a palm tree or two on the edge for some shade. I enjoyed a massage one day, and the spa facilities are very nice. I would recommend the resort and would certainly stay again. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed it.

My wife, brother, sister in law and I spent 3 days in this hotel...it was amazing. The service is amazing...the JW Marriott quality stamped all over...From the moment you arrive, the front desk personnel is very attentive...

The room was amazing...just a step down from a junior suite...and it was really nice...king size bed, soaking tub, separate shower and toilet and plenty of "make-up" counter space. It also had a breakfast table, a couch, a love seat and a desk. In addition, it had a terrace with two chairs (our view was facing the water)...perfect for sunrise and sunsets...

They have 2 pool areas plus the beach. The first pool area has three different pools to hangout...really nice area to hangout in the water and chat. The second area has three pools as well but the main pool with the Copacabana style is the real star. Great place for drinking and jumping in the water to cool-off. Both areas are fairly quite.

The staff is friendly...and will always go the extra mile...speaks to the training standards.

This is a very quite resort...if you have rowdy kids or adults in your party...this may not be the best place for you.

The restaurants and room service are good...with great food selection. Personally, I felt the food could have more local seasoning...but that is a personal preference.

Room Tip: choose a room facing the water (lower floors do not offer sea views only lagoon view). Pick rooms o...

I'm a Marriott loyalist and I'd heard good things about this place and decided to check it out on a quick weekend trip with the family. First of all, there really isn't much in this area, at least not within walking distance, so when you're at this resort you aren't going anywhere. I thought the room was very nice - new fixtures and furniture. This hotel used to be called something else. It was recently renovated and rebranded JW Marriott. Now, how does it compare to the JW Marriott Cancun or the Marriott club properties in Aruba or Cayman Islands - not even close - in terms of service, beach, amenities. Having said that, this is one of the nicest hotels Panama. I thought the service was good, but not great. If you know anything about Panama you know that customer service is not part of the culture. The beach is nice, but the tide fluctuates big time and the undertow can be a bit strong for the kids (and possibly adults). This is on the Pacific side so don't expect crystal clear, calm waters. The pools are beautiful. We had lunch poolside - it was good, but we had to flag down somebody to take our order. I didn't have the opportunity to golf, but the course looked to be in great shape and not very crowded at all. There are 3 restaurants on site, reasonably priced, good food. The hotel is not right on the beach. The beach is a 3 minute walk across the property - there is a shuttle if you're too lazy to walk it. Bottom line this is nice property - at around $220 a night I'd say it's ok value, but it's certainly not top tier and hasn't yet lived up to the JW Marriott brand.

This resort should have been the best in Panama. Too bad it fails so miserably short. The service at restaurants is appalling - from 90 minute waits for meals (with little concern from waitstaff), to orders incomplete or totally forgotten, and even unavailability of items ordered not being informed until everyone else's food arrives. Every dining experience except the breakfast buffet was a miserable slog through unimaginably poor service, ultimately ruining our entire stay.
Secondly, the resort has beautiful pools and lounge areas. Too bad the pools were disgustingly unkept and two had actually turned GREEN like a swamp due to lack of basic cleaning and upkeep (that does NOT happen within just a few days...). I shudder to think of what bacteria and other things lurked in the other pools that looked even half clean, never mind these swamps that had so obviously grown - desperately unattended by the staff and managers.
Resort looks great on the web, and even when you arrive. Too bad so many encounters thereafter are a miserable disappointment.

We enjoyed our stay at a JW hotel as usual and we hadn't planned on staying there as we were just driving by and saw the sign for the hotel and thought we'd stop in to see the rates and they were within our budget so we decided to splurge. We had stayed at the JW Marriott in Dubai recently and thought that the service there was much better then the service in Panama. Everyone was fairly nice in Panama but we had the drag the information out of them if we wanted to find anything out, for example since it was low season not many of the restaurants were open so we had to ask continuously what the time the restaurants would open and also the time the pool bars opened etc. Everything seemed to open extremely late while at the hotel, pool bars didn't open until 1030am while we were already at the pool for 2 hours waiting to order drinks, food, etc. The food was good at the two restaurants we tried on site and the room we had was wonderful, it was just a little annoying we couldn't move the temperature in the room to below 20deg Celsius. There also was a lot of maintenance going on at the hotel which mad excess nose which wasn't enjoyable while trying to relax on vacation. Overall it was a good stay but we thought that have the J.W. stamp the hotel staff and management could do better.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the pools and beach direction are where you want to be.
