“Best cafe in the area!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

I have been living in queenstown for five years plus and have always loved the variety of cafes and restaurants around, this cafe however really does stand out for how unique it is! I love my visits here as every time it's a different experience, going in the summer you can relax in their amazing garden with a beer and burger (or lighter summer options i.e salads) or even in the winter you can soak up the atmosphere of ever so legendary 'dini' she's always great for a chat, so is rick (her husband/chef) and has great decor you can buy as well. Coffee is also amazing with loads of great hot meals on the menu. Awesome place to go to in winter... get amongst it :-D

“Disappointed”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

I had read reviews on Tripadvisor a while before we headed to Queenstown and thought we must go and have breakfast there, should have re read reviews closer to our trip. When we arrived there was only one other car in the carpark, this should have been a warning sign. The service was slow, very slow, it took 30 minutes for our two meals to arrive, I had dry waffles, they were very pale and the maple syrup was watery and obviously cheap! not the real thing at all. My husband had poached eggs and his meal came with grilled banana on the plate, a very weird condiment !!
There was only another couple having morning tea so couldn't understand why there was such a long wait. The other couple whilst we were there complained that their scone was not cooked in the middle. Sounds like new ownership and they really didn't know what they were doing.

“Beautiful little place and lovely staff - a slice of Central Otago history.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014

The hosts Dini and Rik make you feel very welcome and the cheese scones are to die for! Very cosy - with a roaring fire in winter and lovely gardens. We had a very good bowl of seafood chowder. The little shop area is great too, a good place to pick up a gift or souvenair.

“Amazing experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 May 2014

My whole experience at walnut cottage was great. The service, the French toast and the price was worth the small drive from Queenstown. Will definitely visit again when passing through and will recommend to any friends or family visiting the area. Thanks :)

“Lovely place away from the busy Queenstown”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 May 2014

Looking for a quiet place away from the busy Queenstown? Walnut Cottage Cafe is the right place! Old cottage with a beautiful garden, great spot for a relaxing lunch. Delicious food and friendly staff. And two cutest dogs in the world :) Worth to visit!
