Owner description: Arrowtown’s surprises at every corner with new activities, restaurants, cafes and accommodation options. You don’t have to dig far in this sophisticated, yet quaint village to find why this charming town oozes heritage whether the newly restored miner’s cottages, the latest exhibit at the Lakes District Museum or the magnificent trails. Arrowtown is renowned for its café and restaurant culture. Whether fine dining, or enjoying a casual pizza or pie, there are delicious options for every budget and time span. Boutique beers and local wines are just some of the beverages on offer. Arrowtown’s tree lined streets, shops and cafes housed in original buildings and its proximity to walking /cycling tracks, vineyards, golf courses and ski fields, make it a must visit destination. Arrowtown sits only 20 minutes from Queenstown and a mere 15 minutes from Queenstown airport.

I went to arrowtown with my friend and we like it a lot. the best part is the gold rush museum. it has the most complete historical artifacts!. we took one day trip bus to reach the arrowtown village and it is just beautiful. we also bought a lot of candies from one of the shop :)

We had heard great things about quaint Arrowtown set on the river and with its gold mining heritage.so we stopped on our way to Queenstown.

Sadly it was all too "twee" and false for our liking. The small western style high street of shop looks like it was built 10 years ago and the shops charged ludicrously high prices.

The only part worth visiting is the Chinese village

Charming and picturesque, Arrowtown has its own appeal and attractions, combined with a quiet night, but with the bonus of being so convenient to Queenstown.

Arrowtown is a charming, original gold mining town that has retained it's character and lovely to stop for a wander around Chinatown and grab a bite to eat. Lovely in it's authenticity after the lack of historical buildings in nearby Queenstown. It can be a quick trip or take the time to walk along the river and through the surrounding streets where dozens of pioneers houses are still homes today.

It is well worth a wander (at no cost) around the excavated Chinese settlement to learn about the hard lives these early pioneers endured. Whether you are a history buff or not make sure you visit the museum - pick up a $6 gold mining pan there - walk a block towards the river and give it a go according to the instructions. This was a heaps of fun for my family and albeit we had children with us my husband was the most excited and got gold fever! We found gold in most pans - but don't kid yourself - it is literally teeny bits!!

This is a delightful old mining village with many of its shops still in the original buildings. However, as with all 'tourist' towns, this one has now got too many shops selling touristy gifts. Fortunately, there are some good eateries here so you can get away form the crowds and just absorb the atmosphere of this historical place.
