“Historical and well preserved”
Reviewed 25 January 2013

Arrowtown is about 45 mins drive away from Queenstown and we visited during the X'mas day, so most of the shops were closed. Even though it was quieter but I loved our visits as we avoided most of the tourists and were able to quietly enjoy our stroll. The town itself is very well preserved and very historical, reminded me how people used to (and still) live in this part of a distant small town. If you visit Arrowtown you should also visit the Chinese Settlers Site.

“Overpriced tourist trap”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

Really disappointing vibe to the whole town. Stopped by for lunch after bungy on Kawarau Bridge on the way back to Qtwn. Lots of overpriced shops and cafes, Irish pub lunch was Ok nothing special. Thai place was the most reasonably priced at $12 per meal. Town itself is pretty in a cutesy way but we found most of the shopkeepers rather unfriendly, jaded and unhelpful. Very strange given they rely on tourists. The sweet shop also unfriendly and the lucky dip lolly bags had the most awful selection of reject lollies 5 pieces for $3 ! Kids very sad.
Only friendly, helpful and interesting souvenir shop was the Gold Nugget. Good selection of items, made in NZ with various price points. Happy to spend our money in that establishment - otherwise don't bother with this town.

“Arrowtown - cute!”

Lovely little shops and cafes, a stroll into history. Definitely visit the old mining village at one end of the town and get yourself an Arrowtown Bakery pie... YUM!

“Quaint village”
Reviewed 24 January 2013

Nothing to dislike here. The quaintest village of old village charm.
Great restaurants.
The Chinese section is well done and interesting to see.
Some good shops and the best pies in the area!

“Cute village, great cycling opportunity”
Reviewed 23 January 2013

Its a very cute little village which you'll probably cover in an hour. The local pub has great food but the best part was cycling along the Queenstown Trail. We hired bikes near the Chinese Village from an exceptionally friendly fellow, fully equipped with panniers for carrying all our stuff, stocked up with drinks etc at the attached cafe and off we went. Very easy bike ride (a couple of hills) all the way to the famous bungy jumping bridge. There's even a pick up service if you are too pooped to ride back. The scenery is spectaculr but make sure you put on lots of sunscreen as it can be quite exposed.
