“Excellent but!!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 December 2013

My family and I (mostly teenagers) stayed for a week, rooms were amazing, beds comfortable, great size, pools and surrounds were well kept and very tidy.

However as having mostly teenagers internet, phone connection etc is important. Internet connection in rooms is via cable only No wifi. WIFI is available at cost near reception only. Internet with third party very expensive. Does not advertise this fact well. In addition to poor internet, phone reception in our room was very very poor. As i was working for a couple of days during our stay i spent a lot of time outside on the pavement taking phone calls which was very frustrating. Foxtel austar was also advertised but not available in our room.

I would come again if staying in touch with others is not important as everything else was amazing.

Hello Kay H. Thank you for your valued feedback on your recent stay with us. I too have teenagers and understand the importance of free wifi and believe me we are working on this right now as a priority for 2014. We do have free wifi codes for guests - mainly available around the main pool. Sorry if you were not made aware of this. I gather you may have had an apartment on the ground floor - which can experience problems with phone reception at times. With regards to the Foxtel, this service is available in all apartments so should have been available in yours? I'm not sure what the problem was there. Glad to hear you enjoyed everything else and we will be sure to spread the word when our new wifi service is up and running.
Warm regards

Excellent location with good amenities (including secure underground parking) and close to everything one would need in Coolum. We booked by phone for two weeks in a one-bedroom unit with a request for the top floor (of the 3 levels) and on arrival were disappointed to be on the middle floor. Apparently there was "no record of the request to be on the top floor" despite agreed availability at time of booking. Shame. Reminder to self to get it in writing next time! The resort was unable to accommodate our request once we arrived due to occupancy levels. Never mind, good size unit in reasonable condition and cleanliness. However, the unit we got was right above the main pool which was constantly in use from the 7am - 9.00pm permitted times, often by very noisy children or youths (we are certainly not against kids having fun but screaming, shouting and leaping into the pool was, we thought, not permitted given the reminders on a plaque in the lift. Despite the pool being right by reception, no effort was made to calm things down). A couple of times it was used later than this by people who obviously were oblivious of the opening times. Added to this was the fact that the unit below was a live-in unit and the occupier appeared to be a chain smoker, invariably on his patio (ground level). It was impossible to keep our balcony door open (let alone sit on the balcony) for most of our stay without the smoke rising from the patio below and into our room - not pleasant if you are a non-smoker! Just our luck, I guess, but it marred the stay nevertheless. Finally, the unit being very close to the reception area meant every day or two (or so it seemed) we were deafened by the local garbage trucks emptying the complex's large commercial sized bins placed out in the street. The unit's window(s) closest to Margaret St needed to be closed to reduce this noise due in part to the noise seemingly being amplified by the external access corridors on this side of the building (needed at least some open window ventilation due to incursion of cigarette smoke from unit below).
All in all, this could have been a good two weeks, however... We have been promised a unit at the opposite end of the complex should we return. We will see.

Room Tip: Chose rooms at the opposite end to David Low Way if you want a quiet stay. Also, lower rooms are dar...

Hello Howiesue. Thank you for your feedback about your recent stay with us. It certainly is a shame that there appeared to be a misunderstanding about your request for a top floor apartment. Generally we do try our hardest to meet our guests' requests, which as you can imagine are numerous. However there are occasions where requests cannot be met or are accidentally overlooked. We certainly apologise if, on this occasion, being on the middle floor spoilt your holiday.

With regards to the smoking, as we discussed during your stay, people are still allowed to smoke on balconies and in courtyards. This is certainly outside the realms of our control and has not been brought to our attention as a problem in the apartment you stayed in by previous guests.

As you will see from previous reviews, many guests like to overlook a pool. As we do appeal to families as well as couples like yourself, the main pool can get noisy with children enjoying themselves. We do monitor noise but very rarely do we find it necessary to ask someone to quieten down. I'm not sure about people swimming outside pool hours, however we do have regular security patrols at night. Obviously garbage trucks are outside our control.

As discussed, if you would like to return again we will offer you an apartment at the lap pool end of the complex (subject to availability) - which is not as heavily utilised as the main pool. This is my commitment to you - in writing!

Warm regards
Michelle Richardson

Great location, large rooms with all amenities, free secure, undercover parking and excellent value for money. Several nice pools and close to the beach. Perfect for families or a couples' getaway. I will be back

Room Tip: Ask for a room nearer the big pool.

We stayed two nights in a two bedroom apartment. The apartments are modern and clean. Within a short walk of the main strip and beach. Supermarket is just across the road. There is secure undercover parking. There are a four pools but we found most people used the main pool. The lap pool didnt have any lounges to sit on and was in the shade in the afternoon. Our apartment overlooked the main pool which gets noisy with voices echoing. We could block out the noise by shutting the door. I found the beds very hard and uncomfortable.

Hello Arantzy and thank you for taking the time to review our resort. I am glad to hear that the majority of your experience was positive here - including our location, cleanliness and facilities . We do not currently have any sun lounges by the lap pool but can easily rectify this. We get many requests from guests to overlook a pool, however the only downside to this is that it can get noisy from time to time. I am sorry to hear you found the beds hard and uncomfortable. It is very hard to find a bed that suits every individual!

My wife and I spent 5 nights at Coolum At The Beach and we enjoyed it so much! We stayed in a one-bedroom apartment overlooking the lap pool. The room was large and had a full kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board and a king-sized bed. We only swam in the lap pool once as it isn't as warm as the enormous heated main pool which we swam in every day. I also visited the gym almost everyday which was quite good for a hotel gym - it has a rowing machine, treadmill, stationary bike and a large multi-station pin weight machine. The hotel location is great with the patrolled beach a short walk across the road and through a bush path. There are cafes, restaurants and bottleshops all within a short walk from the hotel, and a bit further walk takes you to the centre of Coolum with more restaurants and shops. We also used one of the free BBQs one night to cook dinner. It seemed a very family-friendly place and we noticed a lot of families with kids at the hotel, but the hotel is so large and spread out that they didn't disturb us. The kids pool is also separate and away from the main pool and the lap pool. Overall I would highly recommend Coolum At The Beach and would like to return.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor room to get the most natural light.

Hello BrisVegas! It really does bring me great joy to read reviews such as yours and hear how much our guests have enjoyed their stay with us. Many guests comment on how surprised they are by the size and facilities offered in one bedroom apartments - they really are much more than a motel room. It sounds like you really made the most of a complete resort experience - using the gym, pools and barbeques and enjoyed our proximity to all Coolum has to offer. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us here at Coolum at the Beach and the broader community. Hope to see you back again soon.
