“Not what I was expecting...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 September 2012

It's been quite a while since I've eaten at the surf club. The last meal was bad enough to keep me away for 6 years, but when a friend recently suggested dining there I agreed. I knew the club had undergone refurbishment and that the restaurant had new management.

Let's not get carried away here, it's still a surf club with the associated noise and cafeteria-feel to it. What has improved is the food. Steaks were well cooked, salads were tasty. The menu was reasonably priced with good specials and a decent selection of gluten-free food. The surf club even makes its own tasty gluten-free dinner rolls and bread rolls (for the Coeliacs out there- how long has it been since you've had a tasty gluten-free hamburger in a restaurant?)

Service is so-so, the view is spectacular. I'll be back.

“It is what it is - but it's not Fiji”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

Been here many times and Iove the location - it is relaxing sitting above one of the nicest coast lines in Australia.
The view is so beautiful and calming as you head over the hill into Coolum and the Surf Club must have the prime spot.
Coolum has changed significantly in the past few years and is now a very vibrant coastal town with more retail and restaurants.
The Sandbar bistro is probably more of a lunch spot than for dinner - the meals are ok to good, the service is pleasant but the location is tops.

“What a disappointment”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2012

Most surf clubs have pretty good food and service. This one did not. Had to wait 20 min for a table, queue for 15 minutes to order, then wait 1hour and 30 min for the food to arrive. Steak ordered med rare was well done (maybe thats why it took so long!) Although my son had the chicken parmigiana and said it was very good. Overall would not go back as there are lots of other good options in Coolum.

“Packed restaurant and half hour wait in line to order”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2012

My mother and I had dinner at the Sandbar restaurant in January. We had been told to book, so we booked a table for 6.30pm. By the time we arrived, the restaurant was packed full, with children on most of the tables. This isn't usually a problem but many of the children were running around, and at one point, management had to make an announcement for all parents to ensure their children were seated. We then waited in line for 25 minutes for our order to be taken (there is no table service), and by the time we had ordered a drink from the bar and taken our seat, our meal was at our table. The food itself was fair for the price we paid, the spagetti bolongase was $16 and full of meat, the whiting fish and cheaps were greasy but the chips and salad were excellent. Unfortunately we were at dinner for an hour, and half of this was spent trying to order.
