“Oasis of Calm in historic old town”
Reviewed 13 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

Upon arrival, we were met by Pauline and Jason. A lovely couple who own the property. A very friendly, warm greeting and a guided tour around the premises to insure we knew how to operate everything

The property is a beautifully decorated. It has a cared for feeling about it, sympathetically decorated to fit in with the age of the building, yet with all mod cons and comforts. We didn't need heating as it was a beautifully warm week, but it was there should we have needed.

The garden is small and perfectly formed. Easily maintained, its a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the location. There's also a lovely 'sun room' or annex to the house. A lovely comfortable place to sit and read, listen to music or entertain.

A small BBQ is in place but as we were visitng family we didn't need to use it.

The kitchen is well equipped, microwave etc., cooker is gas but has an ignition switch on it. The bottle of wine and biscuits left in for us was a lovely gesture and was enjoyed!

As this is an old, and I expect listed, property, the rooms are small by modern standards. But that's why we rented, atmosphere and a feeling of history emanates from the building. The double bedroom is very comfortable, the small single room is lovely too - we didn't use it except for storage.

The shower is in the bath and plenty of hot water on tap. There's a step down into the bathroom.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our week stay in Firkin Cottage. Would we come again? Definitely. Absolutely.

We have 2 nights left and don't want to leave, the cottage is so comfortable with everything we could possibly need. We had a complimentary bottle of wine in the fridge on arrival, the heating was on which was lovely as it was so cold outside.
Everything is crisp and clean and like new.
There is a co-op shop 5 minutes walk and several takeaways within walking distance or delivery.
We have visited Norwich, Lowestoft, Yarmouth and Raveningham Gardens so far and always enjoy getting back to the cottage for hot drink and relax before deciding what to do for dinner, so much to choose from.
Only one downside is parking but if you are lucky which we have been so far we have found 24hr space just 20 seconds walk from cottage.

“Very nice place, very nice people.”
Reviewed 29 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We very much enjoyed staying at Firkin Cottage. We've already booked it again for Christmas, so I guess that says something. The kitchen, bathroom, main bedroom and living room are spacious. The bed, sofa and armchair were all comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. The courtyard was delightful on the one evening when we were free to sit in it. Wifi worked well. Shops are 5 or 6 minutes walk away. We parked at the end of Damgate furthest from the town centre because it's unrestricted there. Both Pauline Ware, the owner, and Richard, her assistant, are very friendly and helpful.

“Lovely cottage in a lovely part of the country”
Reviewed 6 November 2014 for a stay in October 2014

Had a very warm welcome from Pauline. Cottage was immaculate. Nice and cosy. Didn't manage to make use of the Garden room, but can imagine it would be perfect in the summer for dining or just relaxing in. Local area has lots to offer too, do visit Thetford Forest if you get the chance and Pizzaeria Bellow in Attleborough about 10 mins away, superb Italian food.
