“Charming with character”

In the middle of nowhere a little gem of a converted tower. Well appointed with tasteful and characterful decor, interesting curios, a beautiful courtyard to relax in, good set breakfast, choice of two main meals for guests, extensive choice of -mostly local- good wines. Run by a couple with their son, pleasant and knowledgeable. Only the flat screen TVs in the room spoil the atmosphere but then again, I may be a minority in this.

Room Tip: Rooms are on the small side but you will spend most of your waking hours out and about or in the fro...

How do you describe a hotel where you felt you never wanted to leave? We have n ever been to Mani before and we wanted to stay at an old converted Mani house. And then with a stroke of luck we stumbled onto Citta dei Nicliani. The owners themselves had used 4 yours renovating the 2 old towers and had built a new one - and you could feel in all aspects of the hotel and in the host family that this was a labour of love. You just felt so welcome - you more or less felt like friends of the family.

And the hotel and facilities was just outstanding. Every room unique with unique decor solutions. Not easy when the house you are working in is a protected building and you cannot change anything. We are sure we got the best room on top of one of the towers with 2 private balconies - as long at you can climb the steep stairs both outside and inside the room. My parents got a very accessible room on ground floor - an upgrade simply given to them because the receptionist could see that they could not climb the stairs so easily!

And the food was fantastic - both dinner and breakfast. A lot of local produce was used making the food and that also made it something unique to other hotels. We will be back!!

We usually avoid hotels as we prefer self catering, but Citta dei Nicliani is an intriguingly different experience. Thoughtfully restored and charmingly styled, this family run hotel is a small and luxurious oasis. Wonderful food and wine, along with warm, welcoming hosts made us feel very much at home.

We had a lovely stay at this hotel; we saw it as a quieter location than the bigger towns, and it was delightful. We stayed at several places in the Peloponnese, and in general found food to be uninspiring or poor - this was the place that challenged that, genuine home cooked fresh food. We watched owls, heard jackals and enjoyed the Mani and the peace and quiet.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. Some were easy access, some up staircases, so discuss your need before you book.

Family were helpful, and ensured we were comfortable during our stay.

This was a fantastic introduction to "The Mani." Beautifully restored towers with a ton of care in the selection of the artifacts for the rooms. Certainly one of the coolest hotel rooms I've stayed in. My wife also wanted to give a shout out to whoever choose the amazing tile that looks like a Greek "pani." The details are fantastic.

We absolutely agree with all previous reviewers in that the hosts have an impeccable grasp of great customer service and the food is to die for. I am now extremely sad that my breakfast tomorrow morning will in no way live up to what i ate at Citta dei Nicliani.

This hotel is a great deal. If you are reading this and are looking for something unique yet luxurious go here. If you are looking for standardized, commercialized, prepackaged blah blah blah then you shouldn't even be reading this review.

Go here. Live life.

Here are a few further tips

a) make sure you challenge Elias on his cooking, which he does quite well, for dinners.
b) Panos is a wine aficionado, and has lots of good ideas what to drink and a good bank of wines in the cellar.
c) Tania is well travelled lady and knows her way in the world.

Watch out, there is not much to do in Mani Area.
Place is good for 3 nights easily, but a week is a stretch...

Dont tell anyone what a bargain this lovely little boutique hotel is. We wanted a quiet, restful holiday at a small, comfortable place with a little style. AND WE FOUND IT IN SPADES with Citta die Nicliani. The delightful owner-managers (always a good sign) are determined to spoil their guests. Our trendy stone-walled room was big and comfortable. The newly refurbished rooms and lovely terraces with views, are dotted with lovely original artistic works. Giant terracotta olive jars abound, banks of lavandar rustle softly and the jasmine and mimosa bushes exude a gorgeous perfume. Both breakfasts and evening meals are superb. Occasional forays to other more mediocre tavernas just confirmed what high quality cooking we experienced at Citta. As a hotelier myself I reckon these owners care and concern for quality and customer service is way beyond the average. Just try it.

Room Tip: We paid a little more to have a room with a veranda. It was worth it.
