Tropical Evergreens
Reviewed 27 October 2011

With out a doubt Tropical Evergreens is one of the most exquisite beach homes on the Mayan Riviera. It is in a quiet, peaceful bay, hidden away from crowded vacation areas, yet just minutes from Tulum. Fabulous restaurants are nearby and activites abound. Tropical Evergreens is truly 'Paradise on the Caribbean'.

The bay was amazing, it truly was perfect.

After landing in Cancun and seeing all the concrete blocks and hundreds of people scuttling around overcrowded 'private' hotel beaches, when we arrived at Soliman Bay I couldn't believe how quiet and peaceful it felt.

The casa was like a dream, really nice. But with an amazing beach literally on the doorstep, we didn't spend that much time inside!

It was a great holiday moment to be relaxing in a hammock on a quiet bay, watching the pelicans dive in the water to catch fish, then feeling hungry myself, all I had to do was walk a few seconds and I was in my very own kitchen!

From the moment we arrived our stay at Tropical Evergreens exceeded expectations in every way. The house is both beautifully furnished as well as very comfortable and homely. We had planned to eat out for most of our meals and were amazed to find the fridge stocked with food and beer. The following day, the wonderful housekeepers offered to go shopping for us and came back with plentiful supplies. We ended up eating in a lot which was even more relaxing as we did not have to go to Tullum every day and could spend more time enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Oscar and Lalo's restaurant is great and nearby. It is a few kilometres drive into Tulum where there is a wide choice of restarants and other services. The first night we were there we walked down the beach and could see rays laying their eggs in the sea grass. The following morning we swam about 10m out in front of the house and there was pristine coral and we saw a lobster who we visited most days that followed. We asked our hosts if we could hire kayaks to get out to the reef and the following day two kayaks appeared for our personal use. It felt like nothing was too much trouble for our hosts. The house has its own palapa in front of the house on the beach with hammocks as well as a beautiful shaded terrace with rocking chairs directly outside.

We stayed at Tropical Evergreens, a fantastic large house (Casa Grande) with a separate Casita (two self-contained apartments). The setting is idyllic and the staff, Vicente and Mari were the most helpful people that you could imagine. Tulum and Akumal are a 10 minute drive away and Oscar y Lalo's restaurant is at the end of the private road leading to the highway.

The snorkelling is unbelievably beautiful and the bay is fantastic for swimming, kayaking or snorkelling. It is great for kids as there are no waves (the barrier reef further out keeps them away).

The main house sleeps 6/8 peope and the Casita sleeps another 4 people, so it is ideal for large family groups. You can rent the two properties separately if you are in a smaller group.

The fixtures and fittings are of a very high standard, all amenities are first class and the owner has a great eye for detail - some of the local arts and crafts really suit the decor and create a very Mayan ambience. We rented direct from the owners at www.tropicalevergreens.com
