“Lovely old hotel.”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

We drove up the sweeping drive to a real surprise. A lovely old hotel in a beautiful setting. The hotel fronts on to a huge lawn with various outdoor games e.g. chess and snakes and ladders. We were politely welcomed and given our keys. Luckily our friends chose the room without the good view that we had over the front. Ours was a fair size double room with a decent bathroom. They called us a cab and we were at Ascot races within 15 minutes. We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant that evening. The food was very good but the staff seemed to be in a tizwaz, as though nobody was in control. Breakfast was very busy, had to queue for toaster and baked beans were not refilled until I had finished. Both orange and apple juice dispensers were extremely slow, almost blocked. With just a little organising they could get this hotel spot on.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lawns.

We stayed here as a group for ascot races.
Hotel looks very nice as you approach from the drive, the reception and bar area are quite nice, rustic and comfortable, the rest of the hotel feels tired and in need of some investment.
The rooms are average, trouser press hanging off the wall, bathroom tired , carpets dirty, usual chain hotel thing.
We are in the restaurant that has a real strange menu, great if you want a steak or a burger, again food very average. Breakfast was a disaster! 20 minute wait for the buffet to be replenished.
The bar staff were very good, the evening staff on reception rude and uninterested in customers requests.
All in all I wouldn't return here.

Friendly reception on arrival, room large, clean and nice view over gardens. Not the hotels
fault but just to mention the guests in room 264 decided to have a loud conversation at 12.40 in the night, which went until another guest knocked on their door.Maybe if they read this review they may think of others in future.
We had a lovely meal in the Fork restaurant bit pricey but very good.
Breakfast was good but not asked if we wanted tea or coffee, ran out of glasses and orange juice and had to be brought to staffs attention. Ran out of hot food, gave up waiting and had salmon and cream cheese bagel.
Not sure if there was a choice of eggs etc. as no one advised on how breakfast worked and no menu on table.

Would stay again if in area.

I was really looking forward to coming to this hotel, but was left a little disappointed! The room was a good size and clean however very dated! I know this is a country hotel, however I feel there needs to be some renovations in terms of décor and bathroom. The reception and bar/lounge is lovely and inviting. The grounds are fantastic for a country hotel. The staff at the reception and bar/lounge are very helpful and chatty.
My biggest disappointment with this hotel was the breakfast. I was warned by friends who had attended breakfast the day before to go early as there was not much on offer. However I believe that if breakfast is served until a certain time then there should still be a variety to choose from, considering this is paid for when booking. We arrived to find dirty tables, we had to wait for one to be cleaned. Having sat down, we were never asked whether we would like a tea or coffee, some basic service. Going through to the breakfast, there was no glasses for juice, very little juice left. The cooked breakfast consisted of sausages, bacon and tomatoes. There were hardly any pastries to be offered and a queue for toast. I asked to speak to the manager who informed me that eggs were cooked when asked for, well this would have been handy to know. The manager arranged for 2 full breakfasts to be delivered to our table. Unfortunately the breakfast was very bland and I left half.
This could be a great hotel, given a bit more thought behind the breakfast and décor of the rooms.

We celebrated my daughters 4th birthday here with a couple of her friends and the mummy's. We had a delightful afternoon tea in a private dining room.
We were greeted upon arrival by the General Manager Paul Fearon, who was not only charming but also very helpful. The waiting staff were very attentive, however respected our privacy also. They were on hand to help whenever we needed.

Fortunately the weather was perfect, so the girls had so much fun playing in the beautiful vast gardens and the lovely sand pit.

The events co ordinator Stacey Lee Patterson was also very helpful in ensuring the afternoon tea was planned perfectly. Which it was.

A beautiful venue, relaxed yet sophisticated and elegant. I would highly recommend and will most likely be booking a private room there for our next event.

My wife and I stayed here recently for a wedding party. The hotel and grounds look stunning. Despite being an old building everything in the main areas is maintained to a high standard and spotlessly clean. We ate in the bar in the evening and had breakfast in the morning. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and attentive. Our room was spacious and clean however this has not been updated as recently as the main hotel but still good quality. One small downside is that there is no built in air conditioning but they do provide a mobile unit which is a little noisy. This isnt a great problem though as due to the very quiet setting you can sleep with the windows open on those very few days in the UK when the weather is that good. There is also free wifi throughout the hotel which was a good speed. The only downside to the hotel is the pool and the gym. Neither of which are really worth the visit. The gym is small with a few weights and a treadmill and the pool is pretty small and a little dingy. Good for a relaxing wallow but not good for swimming. Also the advertised Sauna was not on the day we visited. All in all a good quality hotel with good setting, staff and food and I would stay again.
