We ate with friends at The White Horse which has a great reputation in our area. Fantastic food, beautifully and imaginatively served. As B&B owners, we are in the hospitality industry locally, and will definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone that we come into contact with. It was a lovely warm evening and we were able to eat outside in the garden as the sun was going down. Can't wait to go back ...

We were told "the place doesnt look much but the food is great" so we were confused when we pulled up outside a very nice looking pub. Are we in the wrong place we wondered!

No we weren't! inside could have been a 1970's Harvester Inn and we all nearly left
But we stayed and the food was indeed VERY good. But if they got rid of the old fashioned patterned carpet, the terrible mishmash of "artwork" on the walls, the curtains and wall lights and created an interior to match the exterior and the terrific food this would be a wonderful place to eat on a regular basis

We had eaten at The Poulett Arms the previous 2 nights and all thought The Horse had the edge with the food but because of the ambiance I doubt whether we would return

Dear annainasia,
Thank you for your review and positive comments on the food. Thank you also for your honest opinion regarding the décor in the pub, on the whole I agree with you, although I think 70s harvester was unduly harsh. We bought the pub two years ago and had to invest in the kitchen and bar equipment and essential repairs, we felt getting the food and service right was our priority and hoped our customers would appreciate substance over style. This year we have started working on the front of house, we plastered and painted over the artex walls and put blue lias flagstone in the bar area, we plan to put oak flooring in place of the carpet in the next few of months. I am positive you would have run a mile if you had come two years ago! We are a small family business and will continue to invest in this country pub and make it our own. Thank you for your feedback and hope next time are in the area you pop in and see the improvements we are making, kind regards, Richard and Rebecca

You are made to feel so very welcome in the White Horse and the hosting is second to none. We visited our freinds who have just moved into the village and decided to have luch at the White Horse. It was an excellent decision, everything about eating here is first class, the food is excellent and the choice of drinks is superb. If I could rate the White Horse higher than excellent I certainly would.

Suddenly the three of us were not talking. Each to our own, we had begun to eat main courses selected from the £17 ` fixed price menu. For my part, I have never eaten better meat, simple cut though it was. The slow-roasted belly of pork served with an almost sweet black pudding was sublime, somehow managing to melt deliciously on the tongue while while being as crisp as a biscuit. A deliciously complex experience: a rump steak would have been one-dimensional by comparison. Enough said.
