Don´t know if you've heard of stone soup ... just that story would make a revue. It is the traditional dish of Almeirim and many people came here only to eat it. I had not gone yet, although my husband had already done it several times.
When entering the restaurant do not be alarmed - it's a tavern, huge, with several rooms and in the main room the noise can be deafening (ask to stay in the non-smokers street- is much quieter).
In the land of bulls and bullfighters decor is all based on photographs and posters of them and on the walls there are horns to hang coats and heads of bulls. Horrible, for my taste. We sat on wooden benches and towels are of paper.
After all this description would you wait that I’ll tell you not to go? Wrong. Go because of the food .
We eat stone soup (one divided by two) yellow bean soup, vegetables, meats and sausages – it was great. Then eat rack of lamb's rinzada that was also excellent - tender and juicy. The wine was bad, but who told us to ask for the house wine??
Oh and the bread is being made there and cames to the table freshly made. (You will see the confection entering through the door next to the kitchen)
And in the end we paid 25 Euros for two people.
It is a simple place, with simple food, but a visit that we recommend.
