Overall
Very clean, well kept resort with good food/drink, nice people and great beach.
Please read bellow more details about rooms, beach, food-drink and other stuff, thanks for helpful votes :)

Check-in/reception
Check in was one of very few problems, there was some mess to assign us a room (pre-booked via travel agency). Furthermore, we had to wait strictly to 3 PM to get a room (arrived 11 AM), they were not able to ask cleaners to do the room first..
In general, reception work could be better, not much English spoken. We had some minor technical issues in the room (broken bulb, broken toilet seat), asked twice to fix it - never done..

Rooms
Clean, spacious all with nice balcony. Cleaning 8/10 points, just some minor comments.
Our junior suite was large enough and had separated tube with jacuzzi and shower. We pay extra for this junior suite but finally we found out that standard room would be enough too.. In case you need a room for sleep/shower only, save your extra for JS for other stuff.
Our room was in the back of the resort - some 3-5 mins walking distance to beach/all food-drink places. In case you walk often room-to-beach, ask for some closer one.
We asked (by mail before check in) to get a room in top floor, this was a wise choice - there is more privacy (rooms in ground floor has just rails in the balcony so there is no privacy for people staying in that rooms, higher floors has a solid wall on the balcony so you have much more privacy + less chance of any insect inside the room.
Unfortunately, doors are very simple so any noise from the corridor may disturb you at any time, mainly if you go sleep earlier and other - noisy - people come later on.
Our room had a connecting doors to other room, this may be a source of a lot of noise if your neighbors are not quite!

Beach
The beach is really one of main plus of the hotel. Great, wide, clean with palm trees all around - just what you expect from your Caribbean destination. Furthermore, just steps off the hotel beach, you find great bays and empty beach, just for you.
We pay extra trip (private car to drive to some of best beaches of Samanna - 200 USD / day/ car) - well spent money - they brought us to real gems of that area, empty great beaches. In case you are beach lovers, check with taxi drivers or some locals to get this trip.
Back to hotel beach, this was very clean, any mess brought by sea was cleaned immediately by hotel stuff so you have always clean beach.
Only drawback was that in busy days, there were not enough of sun beds so you really need to walk up/down to find your place.

Great snorkeling just 5 meters from your sun bead, small reefs just on the beach. You will love it!
Don´t forget your polarized sun glasses (if you do not have one, get them..) This will make your picture of the sea and beach even more "catalogue - like".
Photographers, spent some money for polarized filter to your lens - set your camera to auto - any picture you make, you can sell :)

Food and drink
I am a gourmet, still had no problem to get all I need at this point.
There is a main restaurant with wide choice of buffet, cold/hot - you always find something for you.
Small disappointment is that changes are just very minor so you probably eat same food more than once in your stay, still, everybody find his food there.
Nice outdoor seating.
There are 3 alacarte restaurants - we tried only one and agreed with wife and friends too that it´s better to stay with main buffet - you can try, but we just like the options of buffet more.

Selection of good rums and all local stuff is good :) The portions of rum you get will keep you happy all your holiday.. :) The choice of better quality alcohol is in the main bar / lobby. Beach bars serve you with basic quality of alcohol only.

Services
Nice people with smile are a bonus of the resort, ola greets make your holiday even better.
Anytime you need something, just ask (space for improvement in reception).
Waiters in lobby bar in the evening may be quicker, go to the bar and do your order is quicker and safe to get what you want.

Animation team
If there is something we really hate on the resort, this was the animation team. Always noisy, bothering with "funny" noise that entertains 10 people other 100 all around. For some that like ANY kind of fun, you may like this. For normal person that expect a nice holiday, they will just annoy you.

Room Tip: Top floor of the building to get more privacy. Large resorts - for people with limited mobility or...

This was our first trip to Samana in the Dominican Republic, last two weeks of November 2013.(86-90 degrees every day)We usually go to Hawaii as we live on the Pacific, but I must say my eyes were opened wide with the natural beauty that exists in Samana.(extremely beautiful place)The resort is lush green with palm trees galore, if you want shade it is present. The beach has soft sand with warm turquoise water, watch for reef rocks though will cut your feet. A walk in either direction on the beach is peaceful as not many people present, basically isolated. The town of Las Terrenas is about an hours walk along the beach and it is a great place to visit if you want reasonable shopping prices with the locals. The cab ride itself is about 20 bucks and the driver will wait two hours for you to see the place. The rooms at the resort are clean and the air conditioning worked well.(King bed, Jacuzzi tub,tv,phone, balcony, iron etc. The food was abundant and they had a great selection of meats, salad, fruits but they could add some more seafood, maybe prawns and one lobster dinner per week and this would definitely bump up the resorts grading. Great alcohol and the staff are very friendly and they do their best to help you in every way. Would I go again to this resort in a minute, had a great time. Cheers to the beach/restaurant bartender Eucibio and waiter Nelson they were both great, also Jose at the pool bar.

Room Tip: ask for a quite location

This hotel really does have a lovely location. The beach is isolated and stunning. I would also say that the main pool has been thoughtfully and attractively located.

The buffet food is OK. We have been to iberostar all-inclusive hotels before (in Jamaica and the D.R) and the food there was of a higher quality and more varied when it comes to the buffet. The coffee was also a lot better at iberostar.

If you can find one of the barmen who knows how to make a Caipirinha order it. They tended to be very good. The other drinks could be hit or miss.

The italian table-service restaurant was exceptionally good. The service gracious and the food (especially the mains) surprisingly nice. The gourmet had probably good food but we had to leave before really getting to enjoy it as the service was REALLY slow.

We were in a junior suite. Our first one had a useless air conditioner unit and water from the floor above falling on you when you tried to use the bath. This was in building 24 which is also out the way. The second suite which was in building 25 did not have these defects and was really quite good.

We have been to the Dominican several times now, but it was our first trip to the Samana area. After this vacation, it is easy to say it won't be our last trip to the area. Overall the resort was exactly what we were looking for. I won't repeat what a lot of the other reviews have already said, but believe all of the good stuff that you read. To be honest, I had a hard time finding anything wrong with the resort.

Here's a few key points worth pointing out though:

- if you want to spend most of your time by the water park, then you want to book a building in the "20" range as they are closest to the water park. However, they are furthest from the lobby, main pool, restaurants, etc. That being said, it really only is a 5 minute walk from one end of the resort to the other. If that's too far, then hop on one of the little carts that is always zipping around.

- large main pool has plenty of chairs, umbrellas, and natural tree coverage around it. No lack of shade if you're looking for it. Same can be said for the beach. No need to get up early to reserve a chair. We were up at 8am everyday and there were still chairs available at 9am after breakfast.

- for the main buffet, a fairly large indoor seating area, but one of the first outdoor seating areas I've seen at a resort buffet too.

- rooms were always clean and well laid out. Lots of room, especially in the Junior Suites.

- beach is fantastic. One of the best walking beaches I've ever walked on. Very shallow water means you can walk out quite far without ever getting too deep. Great coral reef just offshore that you can walk to a have LOTS of fish swimming around your legs

- all of the bartenders were great, but shout outs go to Euclides at the main pool bar, and Francisco at the small pool bar

- special shout out to Endry (pool boy) who found my wife's sandals the day after she lost them

If you're looking for a smaller resort, that is extremely family friendly, then definitely consider this one. Congratulations, and thanks, to Carlos and his team for giving us a great vacation.

We stayed here from Nov.11-18, 2013.The resort is very clean, and rooms are large and comfortable. The staff has limited English but are very friendly and are willing to help with anything needed. The beach is great. We never had a problem getting beach chairs. The beach has lots of shade for those who want to get out of the sun. There are a lot of local vendors who are selling things. But you just have to say NO and they will not bother you. We did purchase some tee-shirts and hats. We were able to bargain over prices and paid the same as in town but a lot less than shops on resort. The food was ok. The buffet is your standard fare. It was a lot of repeats. You can always find enough to eat. The chicken at beach buffet makes a good lunch choice.
The ala carte restaurants are ok. The Italian and gourmet were disappointing. The service was great but food was lacking. The best was the Mediterranean restaurant El Pescador .The food was the best here and the service was outstanding.
Our real gem of the holiday was the small outdoor pool. We usually went there after lunch around 3:00 and for the majority of the week it was completely dead and silent in all the nicest ways!! The barman Francisco kept our drinks flowing here and it had a chilled vibe.
The only complaint we would have is that the place closes up pretty early. The shows are usually from 9:30 to 10:30.The bars close at 11:00 pm and the lights in the open lobby are turned off at 11:00.The disc opens at 11:30, but there is nothing to do in between. It would be nice to have someplace to sit and have a nightcap after the show if you don't want to go to disco.
Over all the entire place is fine. We wanted to play shuffleboard on day and they only had one stick and rocks were made out of planks of wood. They need to get some new shuffleboard equipment. We had a lot of people interested in playing but the equipment was so bad no one wanted to play. We wanted to do archery but were told the ONE bow they had was broken. If you advertise that you have these things they should be available. It is a perfect place for a very laid back and relaxing vacation. When we were there it was mostly an older croud. There were very few families and only a few children.

Room Tip: There are no rooms with ocen views. The higher the number ex: 9105 is farther away from main building...
