“great view, big house”
Reviewed 21 February 2016 for a stay in January 2016

the stay was very good, we stay over new years, i am native dominican, and my wife is american, we brought my family, and my wife parents, they enjoy it a lottt.
couple of things to improve, the wifi was slow, and the music from the surrounding colmado (bodega, pool parlor) could be hear in the house for around 24 hrs, but i guess the latter is hard to control.

Thank you Ivan, it was a pleasure to welcome you.
As you are dominican, you have to understand the the period christmas/new years eve is very difficult to manage in term of noise from the dominicans.
I am sorry for that, i did t know it was such a problem for you.
You should have told me this before and i will have done my best to lower the music with the police during your stay.
Since your stay in December, with all the neighbors, we succeed to close the "colmado" so now Loma Taniera is as quite as before...
Regarding internet, as i always said before to the client, you have to notice that you are in the middle of the mountain, in the middle of nowhere.
We don t have high speed internet, but you have a Wonderfull sea view. Internet is coming from las terrenas city center in wifi, and there is no other way.
Sorry for that, but the internet speed is enough for the other client, you are the first to mention this.

I hope we will see you again at Loma Taniera

“Wonderful place!”
Reviewed 20 April 2015 for a stay in February 2015

Villas Taniera is a great place, we really enjoyed our stay.
The villas are located on top of the hill near Las Terrenas center. It's very quite. You do need a jeep (or a quad) to access. The villa is located 3 mins away driving from the beach (Playa Popy) where you can find delicious food and cocktails and 10 minutes by foot from the city center with shops, bakeries, restaurants, bars etc.

The villa is on three floors with the master bedroom on top. A second bedroom is on the ground floor while the other two bedrooms are on the floor below. Nice views from all bedrooms but the very best place is the infinity pool located at the front of the villa and the terrace arround. There is a lot of space in and arround the house. We felt at home.

Fred and his team (Nairobi, Manuel) are very helpful to make your stay pleasant.
The villa was cleaned daily by Nairobi.

The internet created some problems, but Nairobi send someone who solved it.

The villa is in the middle of a beautiful garden.

We could not pay the deposit and the final payment via paypal or on an account in Europe. We had some problem to transfer money to the D.R. and that also caused high fees for each transfer. Compared with other houses the deposit was quite high.

Leaving the problems regarding money transfers aside, it has been a magnificent experience...

We highly recommend Villa Taniera and thank Fred & Alix for this great holiday! We would like to come back in 2016 and already sent a request to Fred regarding our next stay :-) :-)

“Best location - wonderful villa!”
Reviewed 20 March 2015 for a stay in January 2015

We have stayed now the second time at Villa Taniera and I can only recommend this place. The villas are all very cozy yet modern furnished and they offer a fantastic view over the bay. There is plenty of space for everything and we enjoyed the light atmosphere there.
Fred is a great host and he takes care of any issues you have. I have done a lot of research before I chose the place to stay (always 4-7weeks) and I was more than happy to stay there with my family. It's a safe place, close to the little town - you can walk there - but also quiet. Not so easy to find in :-).

“Serenity at its Finest”
Reviewed 12 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

I have stayed at Fredrick's villa numerous times, in the past two years. If you are looking for a beautiful villa set atop a mountain overlooking Las Terrenas Beach this is the place, look no further. The villa is quiet and serene and perfect for relaxing and enjoying your vacation. Also if you need someone to cook or run to the store for you there are people readily available to take care of everything while you are there and enjoying your stay. I would recommend this villa to anyone who is looking to enjoy there time at Las Terrenas for a very reasonable cost.

“Nice but not exactly Luxury”
Reviewed 10 March 2015 for a stay in December 2014

It is a very cute basic house with several flaws. The kitchen was very under stocked, it needs way more utensils and decent pots and pans. The pool was cold throughout the whole trip so we never used it. It lacked small details, like somewhere to put your toothbrush in the bathroom. And the stairs where very rough, there were way too many steps, going up and down with babies and strollers was tough. In the end it was a pleasant stay with a nice view but not even close to luxury.

Dear P. , thank you very much for your review; we really appreciate your point of view after visiting us. This is the best way to improve.

We are very sorry that some utensils were missing regarding your criteria.
I came many times to see you during your stay and you never mention anything.
It would have been a pleasure to find what was missing for you during your stay.
As you have seen, we have an inventory of the villa, and your villa was complete when you enter. I will add a few utensils to the villa for the next client.

Regarding the pool, I am very sorry for you, but you came in December and you were not very lucky about the weather. Maybe because you are living in a very hot country all year, and you are not used to see a pool at 24/26 degree, but the other clients in December, coming from Europe, love the pool and spent many times swimming.

Regarding the stairs, as we are in the mountain, and as we are looking for the view, we need to climb.
Not all the villas have stairs, but yours have some, not so much.
As you have seen, all my team is dedicated to help you if you need to climb anything, do not avoid to abuse.
I have seen that you mention the beautiful view of the villa. Sometimes you need to climb to get that. Being on the beach, without stairs, won’t give you such beautiful and relaxing view and also we always have a fresh breeze and we don’t have mosquitos.

And finally you are right; this is not a luxury villa, because the price is not luxury.
If you were looking for a luxury villa, you will have found some in Las Terrenas but at the double or triple price of the one you have rent.
Our unique luxury is the view, and being in a very quite natural park in the middle of the nature. I hope you appreciate that.

We understand all your remarks, and we will try to do our best to improve the villa for next time.
Loma Taniera Team was very pleased to welcome you in Las Terrenas and i hope you will come back.
Best regards
Fred

“Rent This Beautiful Villa Now - Just Do It!”
Reviewed 16 December 2014 for a stay in November 2014

The gated property, which is nestled into a lush hillside, houses four lovely, very Caribbean-style villas. All are virtually identical in terms of architecture and design. The rounded, whitewashed walls give the villas a warm and inviting feel. Local stone, wooden beams, hand-hewn furniture and bits of colored glass are incorporated throughout, enhancing the tranquil, island-feel of the space.

The interior first floor living room and the upstairs master suite are separated from outdoor living spaces by sliding window walls. The outdoor living spaces include a large covered deck with comfortable built-in couches, a covered dining area with a huge table and eight chairs, a covered breakfast bar area and an infinity pool off the living room and a sun porch off the master suite. When the walls are open, the indoor and outdoor spaces truly become one.

We closed the first floor walls only when we were sleeping. We left the walls of the master suite open at night and in the morning. The cool breeze, the lapping surf and the sounds of birds, frogs, crickets and other nocturnal singers lulled us gently to sleep each night. The distant calls of roosters and the sunny, blue skies woke us gently each morning. Because the walls were open so often, we were visited by a variety of beautiful moths and butterflies, colorful (and harmless) insects and frogs, tiny lizards and the occasional small spider (also harmless). We lived comfortably with and among them. They seemed to tolerate us as well.

The villas are situated on the spacious property in such a way that you and any "neighbors" will be blissfully unaware of one another. The grounds are encircled by a beautiful, hand-laid stone wall, which provides privacy and security, while blending in seamlessly with the surroundings. You know you are safe and secure on the property, but you don't feel like you are staying in a high security compound. The caretaker (a very pleasant woman name Nairobi) and her family live on the grounds in a cottage adjacent to the gated entry. They are available to open the gate at any time and to assist with any matters that may arise.

Nairobi thoroughly cleans the villa daily (including washing, drying and putting away dishes). For a nominal fee, she will prepare and serve meals as well. She made a delectable meal of fresh fish in a coconut and pineapple sauce, paella and lobster for our Thanksgiving Day dinner. It truly was a meal to remember.

The four spacious bedrooms have full en suite bathrooms, air conditioners, ceiling fans and ample closet space. Temperatures were in the high 80s ('F) for the entirety of our trip but because the villa is comfortable during the day and VERY comfortable in the evening, we only used the AC units at night - and not everyone used them.

The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes, cups, glasses and utensils. The appliances - which include an oven, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, juice maker and freshwater cooler - all were in good working order. We rarely turned on the television, but it worked fine as well, as did the sound system. The water temperature and pressure in the large, windowed showers was excellent. The high capacity washer and dryer also worked well.

On the advice of our gracious host, Frederick Lemy, we rented quad ATVs for getting around. They were the perfect mode of transportation. Much better than renting a car. The closest beach is less than a five minute ATV ride from the villa, on a lightly-traveled, paved and marked roadway. You can ride along the coastline into and through town for a few miles and stop at any number of other beautiful, and sparsely populated, beaches as well. The beaches closest to the villa offer a tranquil, soft surf.

Roughly 10 minutes' ride from the villa - through the center of town and on through verdant, hilly countryside - is Coson. The beaches there offer a stronger, rolling surf. On one of our visits to Coson, we literally were the only people on a two-mile stretch of beach for the entire day. We enjoyed wonderful (and ridiculously inexpensive) meals of the freshest grilled whole fish, lobster tails, arroz con pollo, beans, papas fritas (French fries) and pina coladas (served in hollowed out pineapples) at a beachfront restaurant there called Luis. Highly recommended.

Getting to and through town on the ATVs was very easy. It took less than half an hour for everyone in our party to feel completely comfortable driving alongside the residents on their scooters and motor bikes and weaving in and out of traffic. Traffic lights are non-existent, one way streets and cutovers abound and the concept of staying in one's own lane on the narrow thoroughfares is lost on the residents. But we never felt road and traffic conditions were unsafe or dangerous, even at night.

There are numerous cafes, cigar shops, fruit and vegetable stands, restaurants and bars in town. Make sure to stop for some hand made empanadas (delicious). Get to the vendors early though, as they run through their supply well before noon. There is a fairly new, American-style supermarket in town, as well as pharmacies, banks, patisseries and a couple gas stations. You will want for nothing. Very few people speak English (or French) in Las Terrenas, however - even at the banks and supermarket - so be prepared to dust off your Spanish.

Frederick, the owner of the villas, is a French ex-pat who was so smitten by Las Terrenas during a visit 10 years ago that he decided to make it his home. Fredrick was a great asset and our best resource when it came to learning about Las Terrenas and planning our trip. His insights and recommendations were invaluable. In addition, Frederick and his lovely family live in a villa on the property on weekends, and are in Santo Domingo during the week. They are literally next door or reachable by cell phone 24/7, which is very comforting. My wife and I contacted Frederick many times during our stay with questions ranging from the silly to the sublime. He always answered immediately or called us back within minutes. At Fredrick's invitation, his family and mine spent a splendid evening at his villa drinking wine, eating hors d'oeuvres, listening to music and enjoying pleasant conversation. A real treat. Merci, Frederick.

Simply put, if you choose to stay as Frederick’s guest, you will not be disappointed by the layout and feel of your villa, the grounds, the views, the proximity to town and beaches or the staff. I have traveled quite a bit in the Caribbean, having visited Jamaica, Antigua, Turks & Caicos, Bermuda and the Bahamas. My family’s stay in Las Terrenas at Loma Taniera was the best trip of them all.
