This is boutique hotel is paradise in every sense.

The Beach: This beach is comparable if not superior to all the secluded beaches in the area that will cost you additional money, time and safety to reach (rincon, moron, etc.)

The Hotel Staff and Grounds: The hotel has a rustic french BB setting, with significant attention to detail. Everything is clean, the staff wears a friendly face even at the most hectic lunch time. They have gone out of their way on numerous occasions to accommodate my pregnant wife.

The hotel owner, Marzia, what a character. I have been to Michelin restaurants around the world. Marzia prepares dishes at the same level. My recommendations to ask for "Cigala" (Norwegian Lobster) and see if you get lucky with the day's catch, which is what she cooks. If norwegian lobster is not available, then suggest that she make lobster a-la Marzia... ridiculously good. The vegetable lasagna is to die for. The menu is surprise but if you suggest it, these are the things that I loved from what Ive tried, though it was all pretty delicious.

Ask Marzia to tell you the story of her past and show you her pictures and magazines, you will not regret it.

Last time my wife and I went, we saw the baby turtles hatch about 100m from the hotel and dash into the ocean. Once in a lifetime experience.

Breakfast, which is included, is always fresh made to order and served by a friendly face.

The road leading to the hotel needs work, it is very deteriorated, but the experience is worth it.

Why this is not #1 on TA for las terrenas is a mystery to me, compared to the hotel that currently is, Albachiara. If only all the hotels in the DR could be like this.

I heard that Marzia is looking to sell the property, so visit while you still can. It is an experience not to miss. Pet friendly, family friendly. gourmet friendly, romance friendly.

Room Tip: Get one of the rooms with a small balcony overlooking the ocean.

Casa Coson is the perfect haven on the Samana Penisular; the ideal place to relax, unwind and enjoy excellent food. The owners Marzia, Yvan and all of the other staff will make you feel welcome to what feels like a home away from home.

Our visit started off with a perfect salad and a nice relax by the pool and then later that evening Marzia cooked one of her famed surprise dinners. We don't really have any particular dietary requirements which helps here as you have no idea what is going to be put in front of you (although they do check if there is anything you don't like or allergic to first!). We we were served the most delicious, gourmet food for the three nights we were there... We really should have ventured into Las Terrenas but couldn't tear ourselves away from this beautiful retreat. As described in previous reviews; breakfast was fantastic as well!

A small piece of advice would be to either pay for all of your stay in advance or take lots of cash as there is no card payment facility and we were unable to immediately get cash out as the bank blocked our cards for fraud protection and took 24 hours to be resolved.

If you are in any doubt about booking this hotel just do it immediately, you won't regret it!

We went to visit this little hotel in May . The spot is ideal for someone who wants quietness. And the price very reasonnable. Very isolated so you need a car.The beach is endless. Lunch and dinner is available on the spot.Or you go to Las Terrenas where there is a good choice of restaurants. In Samana many restaurants and stores do not accept credit card so bring cash.We wanted to eat at that hotel but they were not taking credit card. Yes I would stay there for a week and rest or write a book.

Imagine staying in an elegant French home crossed with Caribbean laid-back charm--that is the magic of Casa Coson. Spurred largely by welcoming doyenne Marzia, your stay here will be filled with many sublime moments: swimming, walking and lounging on the beautiful beach; eating the luscious gourment food cooked by Marzia herself with her assistants; resting in your beautifully appointed room; enjoying a cocktail on the terrace with the other interesting guests.

My friend and I arrived very late at night, and were initially dubious when the taxi driver didn't know where to go and we finally found ourselves on a rutted dirt road. Fear not--Casa Coson awaits. We were only planning to stay one night, but based on it's beauty, charm & Marzia's gracious hosting, we came back to Las Terranas 1 day early to stay again at Casa Coson.

Can't wait to return!

Quite spontaneously, we booked 10 days here, based largely on location and the reviews of other Tripadvisor travelers. Truthfully, bumping down a very potholed dirt road to the hotel had us a bit worried, but arriving a couple of kilometers later, we found ourselves at a jewel box of a hotel. It is situated on the northern end of the Playa Coson, which is several kilometers of beautiful white beach. We stayed in a garden-view suite (located on the 2nd floor of the main house), comprised of a spacious sitting room with sofa, two arm chairs, small refrigerator stocked with mineral water, large commode and colorful dhuri rugs. The sleeping room has a king-size bed (exceedingly comfortable), large closets and a safe. Each room has a large ceiling fan. An airconditoner is available, but we didn't need it. The suite was impeccably clean and the bathroom is stocked with blow dryer, magnifying mirror, shower and plenty of shower gel and shampoo.

The dining room/breakfast room, also in the main house, opens out to a wood patio which then is open to a lovely garden area featuring a small swimming pool and beautiful succulents, sloping directly to the beach. The garden area also has a number of open-air, shaded gazebos, equipped with extremely comfortable chaise lounges, upholstered in colorful fabrics -- suitable for two people. One is also used for spa/massage -- open air, but quite private.

There is a separate restaurant for lunch, directly adjacent to the main house, also open air and shaded, which seats perhaps 30-40 people and includes a small bar. We ate lunch here every day and loved such offerings as fresh pasta with local clams, tuna tartare and grilled fish. The service staff is excellent -- professional, friendly and quick. We happily lingered over lunch and then returned to swimming, walking the beach or reading in one of the gazebos until late afternoon.

Yvan and Marzia are wonderful hosts -- they are constantly present, whether making sure their guests are happy or greeting friends who stop in for lunch. There is a grand mix of French, Spanish, Italian and English being spoken at any given time.

The breakfast served as part of the price of the room is one of the most delightful aspects of the Casa Coson. Either ordered directly to one's table or served in a casual buffet, the platters of beautifully ripe mangoes, papayas, melon, passion fruit and berries were excellent. Someone is also baking fresh, tiny French pastries -- passion fruit or mango tartlettes for example -- as well as mini Madelaines and wee pound cakes. Fresh, warm, whole wheat bread, excellent yogurt, and French butter finish the basics. Marzia will see to eggs prepared to order whenever one asks. Topped off with fresh-pressed passion fruit juice and terrific coffee, your day can begin no better.

We're diehard swimmers and could have spent hours simply swimming in the easy water of the Playa Coson. The beach itself, though public, is pretty remote and other than the weekends, when many locals come to enjoy the water, it is very uninhabited: there are only two other properties (currently occupied) located directly on either side. An open-air restaurant serving grilled fish, barbecued chicken and pina coladas in real pineapples is located down the beach a couple of kilometers -- far enough away that the inevitable Dominican boombox music played on the weekends is hardly discernable, but close enough for a change of pace for lunch.

Dinners at Casa Coson are treasures. Marzia never tells you what she's making -- it's all a 3-course surprise and well worth the US$42. Everything is lovingly prepared from fresh ingredients and served beautifully -- both in presentation as well as by the staff.

Finally, it is the people who own, manage and run a hotel who really make it, we find. This is where the Casa Coson is a cut above. Every single person who works there and with whom we interacted, was professionally trained, gracious and friendly. Our preferences were respected and we were delightfully charmed with how much care each person took to ensure our comfort. Once again, thank you so much Marzia and Yvan (as well as Andrea, Jacqueline, Gieselle and so many others!).

We will be definitely returning...perhaps even sooner than we planned!

Room Tip: The garden suite is lovely. Next time, however, we'll book one of the rooms facing the ocean, just for the change of pace.
