“Seabird spectacular.”
Reviewed 4 June 2014

A lovely drive through North Auckland and its wineries brings you to Muriwai Beach with its rolling surf.A gentle climb and there you are looking at a spectacle of wildlife with Gannets wheeling and diving, and the young ones slowly changing from down to feathers.

“A Great Nature Walk”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

This is a great thing to do if you like coastal visits and walks with a great view of the large gannet colony. Gannets are an amazing bird to watch especially when you watch them diving for fish. Muriwai beach is black sand and gets very hot to walk on in summer, and the beach tends to be windy, but you can walk for miles. There is also a cafe just up from the beach.

“Excellent nature experience”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

The beach at Muriwai is an easy drive from Auckland. The gannet bird colony is an short walk from parking. Be careful stepping across wet rocks and uneven footpath. The birds are a great photo opportunity. Very entertaining.....albeit a bit smelly if the breeze is from a certain direction. It can be windy at times. Picnicing is fun.....and there are also a few cafes in the area.
