“Highlight of Our Trip”
Reviewed 2 August 2011

I am surprised by the previous reviews but I am thankful that the reception that we received was professional, courteous and wonderful. I think maybe there had been a change of management when we were there mid June of this year. We were upgraded to the lakeside villa without asking and all staff were friendly and attentive. A special mention about Sam has to be made. He went out of his way to make sure we had everything and it was nice to speak to someone about their travels around the world. The area itself was fantastic and we would love to go back. We took a canoe out for one of the mornings we were there and were able to get some fantastic photos of the area. This stop for us was at the end of our trip and it was nice to relax and be waited on. So thank you to one and all for a very relaxing time. It ended our trip perfectly

For a number of years I have been wanting to stay at the Lake Bennett Wilderness Resort and after a nice drive last weekend, we decided to drop by in person and make a booking for a family weekend away.

I approached the reception desk and asked a male employee if we could have a look at a Lakeside Villa, to which he abruptly replied "they're all being cleaned, look at our website". I found this very hard to believe as it was 3pm in the afternoon.

We have lived in the NT since 1998 and although customer service is lacking at times, I have never experienced such an unwelcoming response. Hence, we won't be staying at the Lake Bennett Wilderness Resort EVER and will deter all of our friends to doing so too.

We travel in a well organised group of about 20 of us, including families with young infants and singles.
We organised our rooms (some families had lakeview rooms and some had cabins etc) and paid in one lump sum (over $1500 just for the accommodation).
Yet the manager seemed to have a prejudice that our group would be an upstart to the establishment, so he organised to have us eat our evening meals outside and when it started raining (it was the wet) we had to stand around in the bar area eating dinner, away from the dining guests.
The particular Lakeview room I was in had mold on all the surface tops (tables, chairs, benches) and when notifying management I got argued back about how mold will happen daily and how my room hadn't been used in 4 months and it was serviced that morning. I had to argue to simply have the surface tops wiped down.
I felt, if management were so uptight about our stay, why accept the booking?
Sure, go here if you are a middle-aged couple who want a quiet weekend away from hustle and bustle. But DON'T go here if you are in a group of people staying in more than one or two rooms as you will automatically attract yourself a stigma.

In response to your Bad review Firstly the only stress that was portrayed by our manager was his desire to make your stay more comfortable. You were a fun group of motor cross people and your request was to dine outside when it rained of course the manger was going to stress your organizers were offered our function room and they declined and said that they would party in the bar where they were comfortable . I was notified that you also did not follow our liquor licensed laws and consumed drinks in a licensed area by the pool that were not purchased at the bar.
This only adds to the pressure of managing a group. We also have had 95% of your group very happy and have decided to re book our venue as they had a fantastic time. As far as your room goes it is the wet season and we did action this as soon as it was brought to our attention. All the staff that were working that night went above and beyond to make sure the group had a fantastic time . I have spoken to your groups organizer and he said the venue was the best they have ever been to so will be cumming back , maybe you should talk to them and they will tell you how much fun they had. Also we would like to thank you for your feed back but as the organizer has said there was no problems we do feel that this is just a personal problem you encounter, once again thank you for your feed back and we will see you in the near future

We had poor service from reception staff but good service from restaurant staff. More biting insects at night than most people will have seen before! It's a very attractive location though.

We stayed a night at the resort to escape Darwin for the day. The resort is basic and lacking in entertainment generally. Even though I am seasoned local it was way to hot to even think about the pool or canoeing. The golf course was "rustic" and again we felt would be far to hot to enjoy.
We settled our bags and drove to LItchfield for a swim and then to a couple of roadhouses and pubs in the vicinity. It is well located to check out some of what the NT has to offer, we visited the termite mounds and the Wildlife Park on the way home.
Our room was a spa room and we had bought a bottle of champagne to enjoy in the spa that evening - taking in the view.
This is a place to go if you are spending time with someone you want more time with, there are virtually no distractions and little else to do but enjoy your partners company.
We loved the quirkiness of the place, there is a definate "Fawlty Towers" feel.
The food was great - though a little on the cold side.
My suggestion for improvement would be to get some more indoor style activities in the "Sports Bar". Board games, a pool table even some arcade style games to pass some time during the heat of the day would be great.

My partner and I stayed here on an overnight getaway from Darwin and really enjoyed the experience. The service was great - very very friendly staff. Breanna served us at the restaurant and was pleasant as described by the previous reviewer - a really sweet girl. Mark who is the new Resturant / Resort? Manager was also great - very friendly and very professional.

With such a mix of reviews of the resort I had some trepidation about staying there and didnt have really high expections but having stayed in accommodation in a couple of different rural NT Iocations the room we had was pretty standard. However, while the Grande in Kunnunurra might have the best room I have stayed in the NT - this was perfectly adequate and frankly nothing can beat the view - it was so lovely and peaceful. We had a lakeside view room and it was just unbeatable. Whether watching the sunset or sitting there in the early morning while the finches and fishes are busy looking for an early morning feed - it was brilliant. I have rated the cleanliness as a 3 for the room only - this was only because while the rest of the room was very clean the shower cubicle looked like it could do with a good scrub. the King size bed was awesome. But on Sat night as we settled back to watch a bit of TV it kept cutting in an out - its not really a biggy but mildly annoying.

We ate in the restaurant on Saturday night - food was great - we had the lamb which was cooked to perfection - really delicious. The restaurant was full and had 2 staff Breanna and Mark on the floor - our meal came out promptly and unlike previous reviewers our experience was great. The menu is a small one but actually I see this as a good thing - far better to cook fewer meals to the standard we experienced than have a large hard to manage menu offering some pretty bland food.

On Sunday we took one of the canoes out on onto the lake and this is a must do experience while at the resort. There is no extra charge for this if you are staying there and we really loved it - and frankly after all the eating I had been doing I probably should have spent another couple of hours out there. Up to the left you can paddle through the trees and look at the eagles nest - stopping under a tree near a bank in amongst the flowering water lilies listening to the sounds of nature was just magic.

Before we left we had a swim in the pool - it is only a small pool - but really with a very large lake out there - what more do you need?. Its a great place for parents with kids to kick back and get a drink from the bar - gaze at the wonderful view and watch your kids in the pool.

As a weekend getaway we will definately be back and I congratulate Mark on providing such a high level of service and making us feel so welcome.
