“Wake up to the bird song”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

We stayed for only one night in a group of 16. The permanent tented accommodation was a little tired on the outside, needing a few extra clips to secure the flap on the door but all credit to the cleaning staff. Although the inside of the tents were showing signs of age, everything was lovely and clean. To wake up in the morning to the sound of the birds singing and sit on your deck overlooking the range - just breathtaking. We had a buffet dinner and it was superb. Huge choice of meats, vegetables, desserts - really wonderful, especially considering we were in the outback. Some of our group were disturbed by the restaurant manager's instructions on how the buffet should be approached but it was soon evident many didn't listen and it did not flow well because they didn't listen. I also think the restaurant manager needs to lighten up a bit but I was not insulted at all. Breakfast buffet was great too. Emma Gorge worth the walk but the resort has a pool if you want to lay back and relax. Laundry facilities available too.

During a camping weekend to El Q, we had 2 delicious lunches at Emma Gorge. Our meals were tasty, generous and well priced. The service was superb, thankyou Ben. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very spoilt by the attention we received.

Further to the review by Anneandbill2293 we also stayed at Emma Gorge for two nights on the 7th and 8th of June. I agree wholeheartedly, the scenery and location were fabulous. Our little tented cabins were nice - very tired but still comfortable. But the food. We were also in a large
tour group and we seemed to be first scheduled to each meal. The first evening meal was so cold and the meat so cold and tough it was horrible. When we tried to complain to the chef he was rude and told us in no uncertain terms it was none of the above.
Breakfast was horrid, cold and rubbery, on it went. All the serving utensils were covered in flies. The complaints soared, the Manager tried to calm things down by offering some people free drinks.
Our friends even tried the so called High Tea, coffee cups, tea bags and little to eat. They were very disgusted.
Such a same we were all looking forward to the great El Questro experience and thats all we can say, it was an experience and not one to be repeated.
Was it that there were just too many people? with three tour groups in - surely they are geared for such an influx.
It still remains that the food handling standards were very very poor for such a much advertised and highly lorded venue.

Room Tip: All tented cabins appear to be the same standard and you will all have the most magic bird song alar...

Dear grizzlybee,

I can certainly understand your disappointment with the experience you just had at Emma Gorge. I do remember your group and the evening in question. We admittedly did have trouble with the chafing dishes that evening and I kow that the food was cold when served to the guests.

You are correct as well in saying that sometimes the 4 groups at one time can impact the service, however since you visited, we have really pinned down the organisation for these big nights. We recently had one of the same tour leaders visit and she was full of praise for the food and the kitchen team.

Please accept my sincere apologies that on the occasion your were with us that the food standards were not up to scratch but I am confident that the improvements we have already seen wil only get better and better.

Best wishes,

Stopped off at Emma Gorge to see what is was like. Decided against the trek to and from the gorge itself as we had lots of travel ahead of us before the end of the day. We decided to ave lunch here as we had missed breakfast cut off at the El Questro Homestead. It was 11.45 and lunch did not start till midday. Lets have a coffee. The person behind the counter was obviously having a very bad day and it shone through to all. (North American male) He made the worst coffee and could not have cared less. The restaurant filled with 20 people in different groups as soon as they opened. Our order was taken promptly, the staff were pleasant and attentive.
The chef needs to learn the art of cooking. The toasted chicken sandwich i ordered was awful. Pale focaccia that was not toasted resulting in the cheese not being melted and overall poor tasting.
A bit of effort and care would provide a better outcome

Dear Feddans,

I appreciate your advice and feedback on your recent visit to Emma Gorge. It is disappointing for me to read about your experience of our food and service. We are committed to providing a very high standard and I apologise that it was not to be on the day that you visited.

Please know that we do usually put out a very high quality product and many guests thoroughly enjoy our service and meals as well as our coffee. The issues you have raised are being worked through and I know that the team has already improved on the areas in question.

We hope that we have opportunity to better serve you in the future.

We stayed here for 2 nights on a tour. The location and scenery were great, however the food was dreadful. Why treat tour groups as second class when they are providing ongoing and regular business to you??? Cold food delivered begrudgingly. Poor rostering meant staff were stressed trying to do the best they could.

Take a leaf from other operators who provide a much better experience such as Bellbirn or Drysdale and AWC at Mornington.

Very disappointing.

Dear Anne and Bill,

I understand your concerns raised in your review about your recent stay at Emma Gorge Resort. Thank you for taking the time to alert us to the areas that we need to improve on. We have had some teething problems with the buffet service in these first few weeks of the coach group season.

Please be assured that the food has been turned around dramatically and the improvements to the quality are noticable to our visitors over the last couple of days. I have been working closeley with the Emma Gorge team to get the buffet on track to the standard that is expected.

We certainly do not feel that our guests on the tour groups are second class and 90% of our efforts are put into the deilivery of service to our tour groups. If it appeared to be any different, it was not our intention, perhaps only the sudden rise in the volume of guests that left the staff rushed and out of synch with the service needs. I do apologise if this came across negatively to you.

We will continue to closely monitor the points that you have raised about our buffet food and I trust that future groups will enjoy a significant difference in our offerings.

Best wishes,

Lori Litwack

Wasn't sure what to expect, but we were pleasantly surprised. We had an excellent nights sleep and the gorge was on your doorstep. We were part of a large party and had separate dining, which was reasonable, but too many things ran out on the buffet and were not replaced without asking. Also we were required to all eat together at a specific time, which was quite early. Bar was excellent and the staff really knew their stuff. The walk (scamble) up the gorge could be challenging for some people, but it is worth it for the rock pool and the swim.

Dear Mark,

It is pleasing to see that you enjoyed your stay at Emma Gorge Resort. We do have fantastic and knowledgable staff and it appears that they really served you well.

We have system whereby our large groups are given set times for dinner. We do this in order to make sure that every group receives freshly cooked food on our buffet. I do apologise though if this system did not work during your stay and we ran low on buffet offerings, it was not the intention. We are currently working through our processes with the buffet service to ensure that we are always providing ample amounts for every group we host.

Thank you for your favourable review and we hope that you enjoyed the rest of your travels in Australia.

Best wishes,

We stayed in a tented cabin and it was wonderful. The walk up Emma Gorge was challenging but well worth it for a swim in the beautiful cool water. The only challenge was the lack of food options though the food you could purchase was nice.

Dear z0star,

It is wonderful to hear that you found Emma gorge resort to be so stunning. I do apologise if you did not find enough to your liking on our extensive menu. We do try very hard to cater for all tastes and appetites, we are always reviewing the menus and will look at your feedback for the next change.

I'm glad though that the food you chose was enjoyable.
