“Relaxing venue, good beachside position.”
Reviewed 7 July 2014 via mobile

Great position on the esplanade, especially with the outside seating options overlooking the beach. We had steaks and schnitzel, all cooked as we ordered. They have a reasonably good drinks and cocktails menu, not too expensive. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Worth a visit.

“Not Going There Again”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Went to the House of the Rising Sun tonight. Not going there again.
Their specials board showed some nice snapper, so I asked if I could get their Chicken Caesar salad with grilled snapper, instead of chicken. Our waiter assured us that they could work that out.
From a different waitress we ordered two of those and a steak. Our substitution seemed to confuse her, so we asked for just two regular Chicken Caesar salads. Our meals took a reasonable time to arrive, but the salads were bare. No fish. No chicken. The server that brought our dishes offered to go get the missing grilled chicken, but we were finished by the time they showed up. The steak was fair, but a bit cold. Since we were with kids, we were on a clock.
A pity, really, as we wanted a good simple alternative restaurant in the area. While the waitress apologized for the mix up, no offer was made to adjust the bill. For just under $90 for a family of 4, it’s not bad value – assuming you get what you order – but, for that price, I’d rather go to the Surf Lifesaving Club. They are consistent and similarly priced.

“Best nachos in town!”
Reviewed 5 July 2014

After a big resort breakfast we wanted to share something light, but tasty.
The nachos were amazing, so full of flavour and great service. Will try and go again before we depart!

“Went beyond our expectations”
Reviewed 2 July 2014 via mobile

After a horrible birthday dinner at the Apres we were hoping to get a nice cocktail and arrange some sort of a surprise birthdaycake or something.
When we got there, the kitchen was closed because it was quite late. They were happy to make us a cocktail though, how nice! We loved our cocktails, the dragonfruit one was amazing! After a few minutes the owner came with a chocolate cake with candles on top and we all were so surprised! Apparently my friend explained the whole situation to him and decided to do something special, how lovely. He made our night!

We went back a few days after for dinner -wish we did that on the Saturday because the food was great and also reasonably priced, well done! We will be back as we are locals and it can be a challenge to find a nice restaurant in Palm Cove. Thanks a lot guys!

“Sit back and just relaxxx...”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Over a week period I spent an hour or so on 5 mornings just sitting in the comfy lounge in the open window at the Rising Sun looking out at the ocean, palms and passing parade. It was sooo relaxing and a perfect place in which to unwind, while drinking great coffee and eating tasty and healthy breakfasts or just savoury snacks. The service was very good and the staff were all friendly and attentive. Next time I return to Palm Cove I'll be heading straight back to the Rising Sun!
