We stayed in mid November and used the Reef Retreat in Palm Cove as a base to travel around North Queensland and we couldn't have picked a more ideal spot. It was just the place to comeback to and relax after a day exploring, peaceful and serene - Clive was very good at sorting out the internet access for us so we could check with family arrangements in Melbourne. Good restaurants and we loved our studio apartment, bonus point there is the use of a washing machine and dryer - very handy when you are away for 3 weeks sightseeing. If we had the chance to visit North Queensland again we would certainly book in here!

Just read some reviews on this resort and see that most of them agree with our assessment of the place. Couldn't believe there was even 1 negative post - I guess there's always 'the one' who can't be happy no matter what.

We’ve been waiting for years to make our escape to Tropical North Queensland and this year we finally made it.

We chose the more laid-back location of Palm Cove and found ourselves at The Reef Retreat, a really beautiful little gem. Nestled among groves of paperbark trees the resort gardens are just gorgeous and units are reached by meandering stair/walkways that weave themselves around the exterior of the building, creating a real tree-house feeling. A word of warning: there are no lifts and our third floor unit meant quite a few steps to climb, so if you want to stay here be prepared for some exercise or request a ground floor. We were on the top floor and climbing up through the gardens as if you're ascending into the gardens never got 'old'.

The pool and barbeque area are totally secluded and you feel like you’re in your own tropical garden – there’s very little sense of being in a ‘busy’ resort.

Rooms are very clean and nicely appointed. The kitchen in our studio-style apartment was ‘outdoors’ on the balcony which featured timber shutters to close it in if needed – really cool! Even though we were there in winter the temperature was extremely mild (warm even) and we didn’t get out of thongs and t-shirts the whole time we were there. Another nice feature was the spa bath and generous bathroom.

Our hats go off to the Management and staff of the Resort who were seriously some of the nicest and most obliging people we’ve ever encountered – absolutely NOTHING was too much trouble.

Oh, have to mention the ‘reception’ area as well – it’s literally a tropical deck and you’d happily sit there all day while waiting to check-in!

I’d highly recommend a hire car for a stay in TNQ – there’s so much to see and do, and you’ll kick yourself if you don’t have wheels.

Palm Cove is super fantastic if you’re looking for something really laid-back. But don’t mistake laid-back for backwards! Palm Cove is the choice of the ‘uber-beautiful people’ so it’s full of trendy outdoor eateries and boutique accommodation, eclectic gift shops and boutiques. And prices match accordingly.

We want to go back real soon.

If you are looking for a nice hotel, this is the one! The staff is very friendly and helped us with the tour booking! The best thing: the swimming pool! Wooow, it's like if you were in a lagoon, clean and warm water. It's very peaceful and quiet. The rooms are big and the beds very confy! Close to the hotel you will find some restaurants and cafes. But as the room has a full kitchen, if you want to buy something to cook, you need to take the bus and go to Coles, 10 min away. They also have a place to BBQ if you are in the mood!
I would go back, for sure!!

After researching it is so nice to actually get it right. The right time for us to come for a quiet time before Christmas, an excellent location,THE right place, quiet: although almost empty, fabulous unit, pool, amenities, location & service. Reef Retreat is exactly what it is advertised & reviewed to be!

Had a very pleasant 4 nice stay at this hotel. The staff were very warm and the nice balconies allowed a great outside breakfast or dinner in a very relaxed setting. Would definitely go back there. The pool and the surrounding trees give a nice relaxing setting.

We have stayed at this wonderful place twice and each time found the place so relaxing. Clive the proprietor remembered us and our son from two years ago, and made us feel really welcome straight away. The apartments are huge, spotless and equipped with everything you could possibly need, and are furnished really well - so comfortable. There is a lovely pool area with a jacuzzi set amongst tall trees which is very relaxing, with a barbecue and eating area alongside. The whole complex is very leafy and so attractive and very quiet at night. The huge balcony is lovely to sit and eat breakfast and evening meal on with a nice private feel. The complex is very close to the beautiful beach set with palm trees, and also to the shops, bars, restaurants etc. We would have no hesitation in recommending the Reef Retreat to anyone visiting Palm Cove and wished we could have stayed much longer than the two nights we were there.

We met up with our son and daughter-in-law for a family holiday at The Reef Retreat and had a fabulous time. Clive, the proprietor, was incredibly helpful. We found it a perfect mixture off self catering and dining out. The facilities were very good in the apartment and within the grounds. The pool area was clean, safe and a nice place to relax. The communal eating area / BBQ was great for meeting up and having a meal together. We also ate in our apartment and on the balcony, so plenty of variety to choose from. The local restaurants have a good choice from moderately priced to more expensive for a special occasion.

We found it quiet and relaxing. The position of the retreat is close to the beach, yet set back away from the main walkway. There is a nice variety of shops, a jetty to fish from, a long sandy beach you could walk for miles. Local bus service to a larger shopping centre and supermarket. We went on a number of trips to see: the Great Barrier Reef, Green island and the rain forest via a cable car and returned by train. Very pleased we did these trips.

I would definitely recommend this resort for a holiday

Room Tip: We had 2 one bedroom apartments, which was perfect to meet up or have privacy if we wanted. Our apar...
