“Babymoon at Palm cove Peppers”
Reviewed 28 April 2012

We are expecting our first baby in August and were looking for somewhere good to go for a "last" relaxing holiday.

We have travelled overseas to different places and really enjoy beach resorts. Normally we probably would have travelled overseas to Asia for a tropical holiday (although I have been to queensland many times before). However due to my wife being 26 weeks pregnant I thought it better to holiday at home.

It was actually our doctor who said to us jokingly "pregnant women holiday at palm cove." I looked at a few resorts through trip advisor and thought peppers was good. I booked through flight centre.

Now for the review - we had an absolutely FANTASTIC time at peppers "The beach club"
The resort has three pools - we stayed in a one bedroom penthouse above the Serenity pool. This pool is the quiet "rainforest pool" and there was no noise we could hear from our room. The penthouse had a bbq and jacuzzi on the top floor and the room was very spacious with fully equipped kitchen. I would recommend to stay above the serenity pool due to the quietness factor for couples. Many families with young kids however stayed around the bigger lagoon pool (where pretty much everyone swam). It is a great resort for families too....

The other pools where everyone swims were the formal pool and the lagoon pool. There was a pool bar which we loved as we lounged around the lagoon pool. We ordered hamburgers, cocktails (for me, no alcohol for the pregnant wife!! :-) ) and wedges.

The beach club is opposite the beach and there is a netted area where you can swim.

Probably the only slight disadvantage I would say about our stay would be the service could have been slightly better. The only two examples of this I can think of were that the room wasn't always cleaned well (i.e. sheets weren't changed everyday and things were still a bit messy) and sometimes when we went to the restaurant the staff were a bit slow to welcome us. Also the breakfast was good but no where near as big as the buffet breakfasts I've had in Asia (for e.g. traders 4 1/2 star hotel in kl malaysia).

However - we feel these were minor issues and we really have nothing but praise for this resort. We had an awesome time here. We love the beach club and I felt like crying (well not quite :-) when we had to leave after 10 days of lying around the pool, ordering food, swimming, walking along palm cove (and going out too!). I WANT BEACH CLUB!!!!!!

Additionally we really enjoyed going to Hartley's crocodile park and also green island beach was great too!

So overall - we loved Peppers Beach Club palm cove and had an awesome time. Thank you Peppers. Also special mention to staff member "Drew" who seemed to be working non stop all the time who fetched us most of our meals etc.

Anthony.

This is a fantastic resort for coupled and families alike. Great range of pool toys for use, sandy beach, so kids have a ball. The lagoon pool is huge, so you never feel overcrowded. Rooms are clean and have everything you need.

We stayed in a spa room near the tranquility pool which was very nice and clean. they don't change the sheets every day but they do make up the bed, tidy up and change the towels.

The lagoon pool (there are 3 pools) is awesome and if thats not your thing a swim across the road in the stinger proof enclosure lets you swim in the ocean.

Breakfast was nice typical bacon & eggs etc which was good but nothing special.

Overall it was a good deal for a very well presented and positioned apartment hotel resort.

Room Tip: Our booking included the spa room, limo transfers to and from the airport and a set menu dinner at L...

Stayed in a Spa Room (3321) on 1-5 April as special treat for 30th wedding anniversary. Paid $138 p/n from Wotif mystery special and were excited as Peppers had great reviews. Generally were happy with location, pools and staff but room was a bit disappointing and in need of good clean and updating. On arrival the room smelt funny and the airconditioner wasn't working properly. Shower tiles had mould, cobwebs in lights, ceiling fan rusty, airconditioner full of dust, no reading lamp, no desk to write at. Mini bar and tea/coffee had not been replenished before we arrived. Spa bath on balcony is nice but you have no privacy. We did ask for a room change on the first night and were shown a Pentouse Spa room at the front of the hotel overlooking the beach. However, we declined because the trees at the front make a huge mess on the balcony/spa and at nights bats roost in the trees making a lot of noise. Decided to stay in original room as it was towards the back of the complex and quieter.
Parking was free but there are no lifts and we had to carry our bags up 3 flights of stairs. Yes we could have asked for a porter to help but by the time we had parked underneath it wasn't worth the trip back to reception and waiting.
Breakfast was included and we found it basic but adequate. Meals and drinks were pricey but hey when your on holiday staying at a hotel you have to expect to pay a bit more. Having breakfast opposite beach was very pleasant in the mornings but when sitting outside the trees do make a mess. Plenty of great restaurants along Palm Cove but once again they can be expensive. One of our favourites was Portabello's, which was a good walk from Peppers but allowed us to walk off the yummy dinners.
Room was an eco room rate with no daily housekeeping service but as we were there for 5 nights we felt we should have been given some clean towels after 3 days. Pool towels are free so we had to use and exchange them each day. Otherwise you have to pay $30 to change all linen or $10 for 2 towels, $15 for room clean and $5 for tea/coffee (this should be free).
Pros: Location, great pools, friendly/helpful staff, ocean views, free parking
Cons: Tired room, no lift, limited room service, confusing car bay numbers

Room Tip: Ask for a porter to take bags to your room

Dear Buckeneers,

Thank you for the feedback.

The melaleuca trees are a beautiful feature of Palm Cove and are protected, each year for about a two week period they blossom and the bats fly in to feast on the nectar along with lorikeets and a variety of other wildlife.
Our rooms are sheduled for a refurbishment this year and I have taken note of your room specific feedback, thank you. Our Eco rate is specifically designed for those guests wanting a super rate without the bells and whistles and is not for everyone, extras do cost.

Many thanks for your comments,

Sincerely,

Chris.

My daughter and I were at Peppers over the Easter Long weekend. At first I was annoyed by maintenance issues around the place and in our room eg. Bathroom light worked sporadically. And the rooms did smell a bit funny. Then as time went along (we were there 6 nights) I began to notice how good the staff were especially when I hurt my neck snorkeling (day two) and fell down some stairs outside of the resort(day 6). Bad luck yes, but the quality of the staff really shined here. They went above and beyond to do everything necessary, even to get me a doctor and bringing ice packs and extra pilliows. Twice. The staff are the jewel in the crown of this resort. Yes the environs are lovely, the lagoon is divine. But it's the service and helpfulness that makes you feel special and allows you to relax. Hi to Micah, the funniest and most cheerful receptionist and hi to Scott on the tour desk!

We hope that you have recovered from your snorkelling; too much to see on the Great Barrier Reef ! I am glad the team assisted you here and that you felt as comfortable as possible.

Thanks to all at Peppers - had a fabulous 6 night stay over Easter. Peppers is the place for a real holiday - had plenty of rest on the banana lounge by the fantastic lagoon pool.
This is the second year we have been to Peppers & once again the staff are friendly & efficient, special mention to Morgan & Scott. Look forward to returning later this year.
Nearly forgot to mention the excellent facilities at Salt Day Spa & the great service from Shaye.

Just returned from a very relaxing Easter holiday at Peppers Palm Cove. We had a one bedroom on the 3rd floor which was configured longways, sort of double fronted so windows right along from the lounge area, dining and bedroom - rather than just straight back from the balcony as most other one bedrooms seemed to be. Room 1332, in the block above Reception, if you want a room like this. It was overlooking the pools and you could hear the waterfall which was pleasant. There were 2 small balconies, one off the lounge area (only room for chairs, no dining table), and the second small balcony off the bedroom with a corner spa - which our 2 year old daughter loved - when we could get her out of the pool!

We didn't spend much time in the room though as all the fun is outdoors. The Lagoon pool is amazing for children as it is fringed with a beautiful white sandy beach and the pool is configured with a shallow shelf for about 10 metres (up to about 70cm deep) before it plunges down into a deeper area. There is also a small rock pool ideal for toddlers - it was so safe for our little one I was able to sit on the deck next to the rock pool and read my book whilst supervising her! Great! The swim up bar was great too, a huge choice of cocktails and mocktails and milkshakes for the kids too - you could also order lunch from the bar and they would bring it out to you wherever you were sitting around the pool.

The staff are really friendly and the other guests were nice too. We were also lucky with the weather, sunny and 30 degrees every day! The restaurant was nice for dinner, and very child friendly, however be aware that the servings are very small.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 6 days and will be back to Peppers Palm Cove when we need another rejuvenating holiday!

Room Tip: If you want a view ask for a room up high. If you want quiet, ask for a room above the "Sereni...
