“Great Resort! Very kid-friendly!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 September 2012

We really enjoyed our time at Peppers – Palm Cove. It is a great resort and with the lagoon pool, it is fantastic for families with children under 5. There are 2 other pools for adults, but if you are not holidaying with your family, you may want to avoid this location during school holidays.

This was our second trip here – with about 10 years in between. Not much has changed that I could spot, though the rooms have been updated. The rooms were clean and spacious, and the grounds were elegant. Breakfast (included) was always hot and tasty.

The key to making this a great resort though was the staff and service. They were outstanding! Our every question and request was met with helpfulness and good humor. They made our stay excellent.

If you have kids, this is a great place to go. The beach-like lagoon pool is fantastic for the younger ones. Teens might get bored at the pools, but there is a beach across the street with Surf Lifesavers on duty (high season only?) The swim up bar makes child minding a joy!

There are a number of shops and restaurants within easy walking distance from here, and you can easily rent cars for a day or so if you want to do day trips. This was the easiest holiday I can remember. We saw two wedding while we were there, and a reception. I think it was a great setting for them (though, again, not sure I’d pick school holidays to hold my wedding in the gardens next to the pool. I think you’d get some interesting wedding vids.) They also have a spa onsite with great services.
We each had a 1hr massage with Harmony who was great!

There are very few downsides to this place. You will pay for the experience, but it did not seem unreasonable to us. It was definitely less expensive than say Hamilton Island, or a comparable place. My biggest gripe was the availability of lounge chairs around the pool. The other guests would often put their stuff on chairs so that by 7am they were all claimed, even though less than 10% were actually occupied. It got a bit obnoxious when people would put their stuff on a chair at 7am to save it, not show up until 10:30, then leave again for 2-3 hours during nap time. I wish the resort could come up with a better system as it left many folks with only sand for sitting. I’d recommend they establish a better system or remove some of the gardens to make way for more lounge chairs. It’s a somewhat common complaint at these sorts of resorts, but not really their fault.
A larger room service menu would be welcome, as well, to make it truly 5-star.

Room Tip: 2 main room types - Suite with kitchen and washer, includes pull-out sofa. Good for small families...

Although Pepper's is a lovely resort there are a few important things to note when deciding to stay there. Firstly if you don't have children it is very noisy around the main pool which is the sunny one. We made the mistake of booking Peppers for a quiet week away without our children and did try the Serenity pool but it was very shady and cool and coming from a Melbourne winter we wanted to enjoy the sun and warmth. As for getting a sun lounge around the main pool - forget it. I did mention to a couple of staff my disappointment as this was supposed to be a relaxing holiday for us and there were no lounges to be had unless you reserved one by 7am which is against their policy but everyone was doing. Reception advised they are not getting involved in the lounge issue - I think this is a bit of a cop out and maybe they need to think of some other way of enforcing this as they do in many other places. When I complained to one staff member she told me they had 300 sun lounges for 600 guests - I couldn't even count 60 so not sure where the other 240 were hiding!

We had a lagoon spa room ground floor which was great although the noise from apartment above woke us early every morning. The only other issue that was disappointing was that our room was serviced mid to late afternoon every day so having an afternoon nap wasn't possible which was something we were looking forward to - we did ask for an earlier room service but were told this wasn't possible (we were in building 6).

Loved the tennis court and gym looked well equipped. Hotel is in a great location. The only other negative was the breakfast menu got a bit monotonous after a week of the same things every day - could maybe change it around a bit.

Other than this loved Palm Cove as a destination.

Nice resort, but heavily orientated to young familys, so would pick another resort next time as this was our first holday away (alone) as our kids are all grown up. The breakfast was nice, but the same buffet selection each day - could do with some variety. They have an issue with not enough sun lounges, and if you're not poolside by 7am to reseve one you miss out (there is no 'removal policy' of unattended towels that are used to reserve sun lounges - took us four day till we got one by the pool!). The rooms are nice, and the serenity pool end of the complex offered us a quiet position for afternoon drinks.

Room Tip: Serenity Pool area for quietness wit swim-up deck

My husband and I and our 2 children aged 9 and 10 have just spent 2 weeks at this resort. I would highly recommend it to any families looking for a place to stay in Palm Cove. I would definitely not recommend it to couples looking for a romantic getaway as there are children everywhere. We got a very good deal by booking privately .. a lot of the apartments are privately owned and not managed by the resort so it is worth looking into this especially if staying for an extended period. The only downer for us was the negative attitude of the reception staff towards us when they found out we had booked privately. They would not help us with anything and we found them very rude. All other staff including the concierge were great. Aside from this I would highly recommend this resort.

DearJulesandpeter,

Thank you for your feedback.
Our services are exclusively provided for Peppers house guests. Our staff service Peppers guests only and occasionally this leads to confusion as to what services are provided and by whom.
The small amount of privately managed apartments do not contribute any funds that I am aware of towards our operational business costs.
We would be delighted if next time you reserved your accommodation with us directly and we will guarantee the Peppers team look after you very well.
Kind regards,
Chris

My Hubby and I went to the beach club in August and as we arrived early our room wasnt ready (we had a spa suite on ground floor with the lagoon up to our balcony) but that was no problems the lovely check in staff checked us in gave us a shower/bathroom to get changed into and then held our bags whilst we were able to use the resorts full service they rung our mobile once our room was ready which was lovely. On entering our room they had the air condioning and fan already on for us as it was a warm day. We found all the staff were so courteous and friendly. We had the Continental breakfast included in our package but i think for a extra $8.00 youcan have a cooked breakfast but we didnt need it as the buffet continental layout was enough for us. We were originally going to hire a car but thank godness we didnt as the shops and beach are only a 4 minute walk from the beach club so very easy to get around on foot. The beach club was busy whikst we were there with families with children but not once were we disturb by noises of the kids in the pool and when we were in the room we had our balcony door open so we certainly had no noise problems at our room The pool hours are from 7am till 9pm and the whole time we were there kids werent in the pool until around 10/11ish each morning. We were also lucky to get the double bed sun loungers everyday there was no one saving loungers whilst we were staying and as people come and go during the day i think everyone had a sun lounger. Our trip tho short was exteremly relaxing, we loved it so much we are returning next month with friends and
hopefully we are able to book into the plunge pool rooms

Room Tip: I dont think it matters where u stay in the beach club would be lovely tho our next trip we are goin...

The resort is in a beautiful setting, you feel like you are in paradise until you enter the pool area which is full of little kids and noisy. We had a Spa room with a pool view which was small but clean and comfortable and although noisy on the balcony was pleasant enough. From our balcony we were able to observe the amount of people reserving their deck chairs by leaving their towels early in the morning but not using them until hours later and some even had chairs in the sun and the shade. We would not recommend this hotel to couples looking for a quiet retreat and will not be returning ourselves.

Dear Leanne A,

Thank you for your feedback.

We have three large pools on site in an effort to meet guest expectations. The serenity pool is an area nominated as a peace & quiet zone and we supervise this area to ensure it remains so.
Generally our younger guests tend to utilise the main lagoon as it has a sandy beach ideal for making sand castles!

If you are seeking a reduced noise and no children experience I recommend a private retreat or an adults only destination.

Best regards,

Chris

The resort is lovely with a great pool and close to beach and shops etc. We had a Spa Suite which was on the top floor overlooking the pool. The room was very small with a spa on the verandah and a bathroom which although well fitted gave little privacy. Unfortunately the noise from the kids in the pool didnt stop all day. The room was very overpriced for the size and in hindsight a larger room or apartment would have been a better choice. This really is a resort for families and not singles. We are big fans of Peppers resorts normally but for a middle aged couple needing r&r this was not a good choice. New beds would be good too.
