This place was very nice to stay in. Good location, very friendly and helpful staff, and the apartment was nice and clean. Sure, the decor is a bit 1970s in style (despite being new, apparently), but it's nice to have a kitchen and living area, rather than just a hotel room. The pool is really nice and there was absolutely no-one in it the week we were there, which made it even better. If it was crowded, it would've been a bit unpleasant, though. it's not very big. But make no mistake - this isn't a resort like the ones up the road. These are holiday apartments. They have no private balcony, really - just the area in front of the door, which anyone could access and anyone walking up the stairs passes by. As for wifi - forget it. It just doesn't work. "Maybe on the balcony" we were told. Nope.
The air con is great in the living room and very welcome after the humid weather. But in our bedroom, the air con only blew tepid air, so nights were very sweaty! Ugh.
It's good to note, though, that this is great value for money in the area. Palm Cove is a tourist strip, so every restaurant and supermarket is waaaaay overpriced. You'll be glad you saved money on accommodation so you can afford a meal.
Stay here, relax, save some money and enjoy having an apartment - just don't expect it to be a resort.

We stayed here three nights and wish we had longer. The facilities are superb, the location excellent, and the staff (relief managers Sharron and Tony) were awesome. Nothing was too much trouble for them to help with, and they have been on most tours so know which ones to recommend. The apartment was spic and span, had every amenity we needed even a dishwasher. We kept the clothes washer and dryer going as it is the rainy season and things get wet and moldy. The view and sound of the ocean was wonderful, but few have mentioned the beautiful view of the mountains from the back bedroom. The location of the hotel in Palm Cove is excellent, within a block or two are restaurants, convenience stores, a small boutique shopping mall.

This resort is quite nice - spacious living room looks out to the ocean, kitchen with a dining table area, decent sized bedroom with good closet space, bathroom has a connecting laundry area that is very useful, has a washer and dryer - although the dryer does not dry clothes very well (after 3 cycles, I used the dry rack they also provide). The pressure of the shower, which is standing only was quite good. The pros: the management is super helpful and very kind! They have little bags of laundry detergent available for guests to use and they are very helpful with booking tours. The hotel is right across the street from the beach and when you sit on your patio you can hear and see the waves - very relaxing! The cons: Guests that smoke on their patios were a bit annoying, and there was a bit of a grease ant problem (they were everywhere - kitchen sink, end tables in the living room, kitchen table). I sat my laptop on the table and soon little ants were all over it. Kind of gross, but pretty harmless. Overall, the place was a good place to stay (walking distance to restaurants and stores) but not luxurious. It's probably best for those people who plan to be out enjoying the beach and not cooped up in their hotels.

We had five days in Palm Cove, and I had done research beforehand to decide we would stay there rather than in Cairns or Port Douglas, choosing Melaleuca from the Trip Advisor reviews.
And we weren't disappointed. What a lovely spot. We had received great help in advance via email exchanges with the managers Stephen and Margaret, and that welcome and friendliness continued with the standby manager Tony when we got there.
The first sight that greets you is the beautifully laid out garden, the lovely swimming pool (like a natural rock pool rather than a rectangle or circular pool), and the views to the sea. The rooms are well sized, well equipped (including full laundry), with ceiling fans and air conditioning. Shops and restaurants are a short walk away.
Tony gave us great advice on when to do the tours we wanted, including looking up wind and sun forecasts to get us the best day to go to the Gulf.
This was a great stay - thanks.

We recently stayed at Melaleuca for 10 days ... the management went out of their way to assist in our every day needs and tour bookings ... the resort is exceptionally clean and very well presented ... great location and well positioned in Palm Cove ... no hesitation to recommend and would gladly return

Room Tip: Room 23 has great views through the trees and not too close to the pool

Just checking an old favourite out and delighted to see this lovely hotel getting such good reviews. We stayed there when our then-single children travelled Australia, and were so glad with our choice. Hope to return to beautiful Palm Cove one day and look forward to seeing all the positive changes made since our visit.

Melaleuca Resort lives up to its #1 rating among hotels in Palm Cove. We welcomed the opportunity to stay in a well-appointed and very clean apartment-style lodging after staying in other traditional hotels. Air-conditioning, ceiling fans, washer/dryer, full fridge, oven, cooking pots and utensils, free covered parking: all made it possible to "settle in" and live for a few days in comfort and convenience and according to our own timetable.

Palm Cove is a beautiful and quite location, right adjacent to the ocean. Melaleuca Resort fits right in and adds gardens that have to be seen to be appreciated. Many trees offer shade near the pool and common areas as well as protect from the very little noise that may come from the street. Through the trees is a wonderful filtered view of the sea.

The proprietors, Margaret and Stephen, clearly value hospitality. We were welcomed by Stephen who took the time to speak with us about the area. He asked great questions and was able to provide very helpful information about the area - from "where is the best grocery store" to "how long does it take to drive to Cape Tribulation", along with all the applicable maps and brochures. He showed us our apartment and explained all of its features.

There are quite a few nearby restaurants for when you don't want to cook for yourself. Our favorite for a special dinner was the Reef House.

Palm Cove is probably best for those with access to a car. Given that, it is a great central location between Cairns and Port Douglas with easy access to attractions north and south.

If we are ever in this area again we will most certainly stay in Palm Cove at the Melaleuca Resort!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the top (3rd) floor. But keep in mind that there is no elevator, only stairs, in case tha...
