The Sarayi really caught me off guard. I arrived off-season in mid-March planning on staying for only a couple nights. However, the friendliness of the staff and manager, the attractive and charming accommodations, and the great views kept me there for 8 nights!
From the pool you have a third story (roof) view of the nearby mountains. From my balcony (the best room in the Sarayi--Apartment 323) I had a nice view of the beach and people-watching streetside.
The Sarayi has a nice bar and restaurant attached in front, and a block down the street is a nice pub and restaurant (Apres) which has karaoke every Saturday night. Lot of nice restaurants and nice people.
The staff was quite friendly, very helpful on matters having nothing to do with my stay like checking on traffic to other cities, finding places to eat or rent a video for a rainy night. They can often be found at happy hour at 5pm and are happy for you to join them. The atmosphere couldn't be more laid back (but to no detriment of professionalism).
The Sarayi is close enough for Cairns Barrier Reef shuttle service is you plan a day trip. Oh, and for those rainy nights, all of the rooms have VERY large HD TVs. I'd advise paying for the upgrade to the apartment. It comes with a handy kitchen.More
