“Service to boot”
Reviewed 26 July 2014

Just checked out of a great (although short) stay with Sarayi. I particularly want to mention the exceptional service of John at reception who helped me on various occasions by going above and beyond. For starters, I was able to check me in early, even though my partner had booked the room, when her flight was delayed. He also helped me to book a shuttle for her from the airport for cheaper than I was able to find for myself online. It was a tricky shuttle situation and I had already dialed 2 other top rated shuttles who could not accommodate. The room was clean and spacious directly across the street from the beach. Just wish I had more time...but off I go to Port Douglas. Thanks again John!

Room Tip: I imagine the garden rooms (with lower numbers) which are closer to reception will have better wi-fi...

Stayed for 6 nights in July 2014 in the garden view rooms, our experience was as follows:
-Very limited housekeeping, bed linen not changed until after third night.
-No towel exchange at all on one day, dirty glasses and cups left on bench, toiletries not replaced.
-Floor not swept at all, sand underfoot.
-Water lays on shower floor away from the drain due to the slope of the floor.
-Bathroom floor gets wet, no where to hang your clothes.
-Shower ran out of hot water after 1 shower. Had to leave at least 30 minutes between showers for the water to reheat. Reception advised, no resolution.
-The entire unit floor has sunk.
-No free Wi-Fi after three days, just stopped working, reception advised but no resolution.
-The rear courtyard is small, uninviting and in constant shadow, definitely a misnomer.
-Dogs ( the four legged kind) in reception and they were not guide dogs.
-Limited car parking at rear.

Room Tip: Stay at a different hotel.

I would've liked to have loved Sarayi, but I don't.

Indication to the hotel parking is not clearly marked. It cannot be accessed from the front of the hotel and there are no signs that I saw that showed where to park (behind).

The reception is not manned beyond a certain hour and so you have to enter some password to access your key.

As we stayed in the garden rooms, at the back of the main building. The main building is locked up at certain hours. This is fine except there is one key provided only. This makes it hard to go in and out through the front when you have three people sharing a room. The laundry room is locked up at certain hours at all and no way to access it with any key.

So the third bed is more like a cot, low to the ground with little support. Pillows are thin and not comfortable. Main bed mattress is okay, but the mattress on the extra cot is soft and not supportive.

The room is extra large for two, generous for three. No space issues.

There is a dining table with two chairs (not three, even though triple share). The kitchenette area has nothing except fridge and kettle. Tea/coffee is provided. Cups and glasses provided, but only for two. There is more than sufficient space for another sink and a microwave, but these are not provided for. Instead, an oversized TV is placed there.

The two largest windows face the common path where everyone can see you, so it's left mainly closed. There is another window and door that faces/leads to a backyard of sorts with chairs where you can relax. It's not very pretty, but it makes more sense to have windows that open up in this direction. But these windows do not open.

The bathroom is tiny in comparison to the room. It is poorly designed without any space around the sink for personal toiletries. The shower stall is also poorly designed, such that if the shower head is not pointing at an acute angle to the wall, water runs down and out of the shower stall into the rest of the bathroom. Nary a hook, available for clothes etc.

So while the room is clean and large, the thinking through for a functional room and how it is used by guests is lacking.

Coupon wi-fi for two devices only.

My son's wedding in May 2014 was a huge success despite the unpredictable weather. The Sarayi team were wonderful in their expertise and patience and met all our requests with a smile. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the food was great. Thank you all so much.

Enjoyed our 7 night stay at the Sarayi , A must to stay in the ocen view rooms , great views , waves crashing , Palm cove is relatively quiet at night , cant comment on the rooms at the rear of the property but our room was clean , , roof top pool area is private and worth a dip. reasonably up to date , everything worked and any request we had was met with a smile , staff remembered our name everytime ,( then you do get back what you put in i guess) . Overall for a unit style stay rather than your the stiffness of a resort the sarayi gets my vote , good value for money and come and go as you please . Ps kitchen facilities a bonus , enjoy

Room Tip: Splash out pay for an ocean view

We booked out the whole hotel for our daughter's wedding. John was more than helpful & always did things with a smile on his face & was very accommodating with all the requests made of him. Nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff & they certainly made for a very happy, fun wedding for the duration we were all there. Our daughter chose Sarayi for the 'vibe' & it certainly delivered.

Room Tip: We had a room upstairs overlooking the sea & it was great; ample room not that we spent much tim...
