“10 day holiday stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 August 2014

we stayed in a fully furnished apartment for 10 days which was situated next to the thai massage suites at mango lagoon. the services at mango lagoon are very basic but that was fine for the kind of self contained holiday we prefer. the resort is placed about 5 minutes walk from the beach which is a plus as it is much quieter and feels more exclusive than main esplanade at palm cove. the staff are friendly and helpful and our only criticism would be the shutter doors to the outside patio dinning area didn't open properly and need to be better maintained. we also had an initial problem with the hot water in the shower but the resort quickly had machinery fixed so would work. although functional the bedroom/bathroom arrangement was of a strange design with only a flimsy curtain separating both rooms and toilet! when this particular apartment was built i think they mixed up the plans as there is no overhead lighting above bathroom mirror but a ventilator which would have been better above the shower.the cushions on the living room couch should also be washed (had a wet dog smell) if better bathroom/bedroom design, cushion cleanliness and apartment maintenance were incorporated then an excellent rating would have been given. overall we were very happy and had a great stay which we have recommended to friends.

Room Tip: away from pool areas

Room was very small and noisy (could hear people upstairs urinating in toilet and the fridge beside the bed worked well as it kept making noise constantly). The curtains did not close properly nor keep much light out. Lighting was terrible with two dark lamps and no overhead light. There was also no remote control for the air conditioning meaning it was either on or off. Lighting in the bathroom was also terrible with a dark old fashioned shower curtain that did little to keep the water in the shower area but did keep the light out so being able to see was difficult. There was free wi fi although it could not be accessed in your room you had to go in a communal area to access it. Pools however were excellent although the water was quite cold in late August. Overall a poor experience.

Very lovely surroundings, room was very clean, lots of space in the room, spa bath was perfect, only dislike would be the louvers and the sliding doors to go out to the pool area, aircon was set at a good temp, washing machine and dryer were handy to have also

Stayed in a ground floor 1 bedroom apartment for 3 days after checking in to a studio and found it too small. Ros at reception went out of her way to shuffle other longer stay guests to accommodate my partner and myself on the ground floor. All staff were friendly and helpful.Apartment was spacious and modern with a fully equipped kitchen as well as a washing machine and dryer off the bathroom. And very clean and fresh.Bed linen was of five star quality.
It was well worth paying the extra as most of Palm Cove as well as the rest of Cairns restaurants are over priced with menus that try too hard.
With Coles supermarket only a five minute drive at Clifton, it was great to eat simple food as well as having your own bottle of wine outside near the pool.
It is an apartment style resort, so be prepared to pay extra if you want daily room servicing.
Grounds were kept immaculate, pools wonderful and hardly used.
Continental breakfast was great value. Very good value all round with five star amenities without the five star price.
Well done Mangoes Lagoon Resort.
Looking forward to going back soon.

The resort was beautiful well kept grounds and pools made for a great backdrop the walk to the beach was not very far and I found easy enough to do even with my average physic. The downside to this resort was the room was not in the best shape, the scratches on the walls and the fact the spa was not in the best operating state were a bit of a let down, but the kicker was the wellness spa, after repeated calls and left messages we finally got a call back and even though the flyer states that they are open from 9am till midnight 7 days a week we were told that they were "unawaliabe" and did not offer an explanation. On arrival to checkout we were also asked to pay for phone calls to the free extension line to the spa room, after a quick explanation however this was rectified at no cost to us. My wife and I had a wonderful weekend and in the future would definitely stay here again however it would not be our first choice and i would not pay as much as we did next time round.

Great value hotel, spectacular grounds, pools and reception. Had a ground floor one bedroom spa suite. Really spacious room, outdoor terrace and very big in room spa bath / shower. Room had machine & dryer. Room lighting needs a little improvement but other than this bed was comfortable, linens and pillows high quality. $3.00 charge each for pool towels but only two towels for a three night stay in the room.. Continental breakfast was very nice and reception staff were just lovely.

Room Tip: Book a one bedroom spa suite beside the rear lap pool

We stayed 4 nights, mostly in a two bedroom apartment, which was spacious, clean and functional (if a bit dark - could do with a bit more light particularly in the dining area). We appreciated having comfortable beds and two bathrooms, and the price represented value for Palm Cove, where nothing is cheap any more. The fact that there are 4 swimming pools is a real plus and the lap pool is just great for those without children. It's an easy walk to the beach and the restaurant strip.

For us, the negatives related mainly to the handling of our booking. Having requested a quiet upstairs room away from children's play areas, we found ourselves downstairs right next to a pool with shrieking children. Getting this situation sorted out was quite difficult and involved one night in a 1 b/r apartment (which had several electrical problems) but eventually they found us an upstairs unit away from the children's pools. They also compensated us for the disruption, which was nice. But it would have been better if they had noted our request in the first place.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have more privacy and rooms near the lap pool are quieter.
