This was our second stay in Palm Cove, but our first at the Mantra Amphora which made this visit the best. We stayed for two weeks in an apartment facing the beach. The room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed. The views were amazing and there was always something to entertain us when we sat on our balcony. It was a pleasure to deal with the staff and, in particular, Rachel who was friendly and helpful. The restaurants were steps away and all wonderful.

When we were looking for family friendly accommodation in Palm Cove, I had narrowed it down to either Mantra or Peppers based on previous reviews. We ended up choosing Mantra as it was significantly cheaper than Peppers for the time of year we went (March – I’m not sure how they compare at other times of the year).
Mantra was great and I highly recommend it to anyone travelling with toddlers. After consulting with another TripAdvisor member we chose to stay in a one-bedroom apartment (again a significant saving) based on the fact that we only had one child and they could sleep in a port-a-cot in the main bedroom. This did make things a little squeezy in the bedroom but was okay for our 5 night stay.
The apartment was spacious and well equipped. We didn’t really cook but made use of the kitchen facilities for breakfast and the occasional lunch. It was handy to have the washing machine to rinse out towels and bathers after swimming and the dryer if it was wet (which is was). The only downside was that the apartment didn’t have a DVD player, nor could you hire or borrow one from reception. We had a few very wet days where it would have been handy to be able to put our toddler down in front of a DVD for a few hours.
We found the pool area of Mantra to be its best facility. The pool is large and has a variety of depths making it perfect for toddlers to splash and adults to swim. There is a toddler pool but it is quite shaded and was too cold to swim in when we were there. Additionally, for a toddler pool it is actually quite deep. We spent many of our afternoons in the pool with our toddler and met other families with their toddlers in the pool as well. All the kids had a great time and our toddler preferred the pool to the beach.
Manta is across the road from the beach at Palm Cove, although the safe swimming area (netted for stingers) is further down the road, close to the children’s playground and Peppers. It is a short walk to pretty much everything in Palm Cove and a short drive to a Coles supermarket in the next suburb. Mantra recommended a Coles home delivery and was even able to store our few refrigerated items in the fridge at reception when the delivery arrived as our plane had been slightly delayed.
We chose to eat one night at the Mantra restaurant. Considering the high quality of the food, and ambience of the establishment, we were pleasantly surprised at the willingness to cater for a family with a toddler in tow. Staff were great at providing a suitable table, a drink (of water) out of a coffee takeaway cup to minimise spillages, and her meal to come out before our meals so we could start her off with eating. We were highly appreciative and it made us enjoy our meal all the more.
In summary, I would not hesitate to stay at Mantra again in the near future with my family. The service and facilities catered superbly to allow us to relax and enjoy our holiday.

Room Tip: We stayed in a ground floor room. These rooms have a sliding door that opens onto gardens and you m...

Hi.
My friend and I stayed at this place between Tues 29th April and Thurs 1st May 2014. We booked in the hotel room.

Overall the room was good but only worth the special rate of $108 that we had paid for. Room was sufficient only for a couple.

The only dissappointing points were that there wasn't even a small sink to use as we did make use of the tea and coffee making facilities but had to go to the nice bathroom to get water in the kettle.

Also the skirtboards underneath the spa bath (there to cover the hydraulic system workings) were very loosely fitted and kept falling off. There were no fly screens for the balcony doors so we had to resort to the air conditioning unit for air circulation at night.

Good Points:

Other than the above room was exceptionally clean and tidy. Very nice spa and bathroom and the rest of the room had nice decor. Spectacular view of the pool.

Room Tip: The apartment rooms look better.

Fantastic pool if only you could have a cocktail served up next to it!
Rooms were nice and tidy but there is no house keeping for short stays. I don't think I have slept on a mattress that bad before, I actually slept on the floor one night because my back couldn't take another night of it.
Vivo is a great place for breakfast, the breakfast Panna cotta is sensational.
The staff were a bit hit and miss, there was a lovely guy who very helpful and cheery and a girl who was very difficult to engage and we felt like were just annoying her asking questions (which we may have been but we shouldn't know that you think that!)
All in all I would stay here again especially once the spa is up and going (it was under construction during our stay)

stayed here in a 1 bed apartment for our last weekend in Cairns & unfortunately disappointed overall with the experience. Negatives 1st, cleaning substandard & horrible musty smell upon arrival, stupid small items that unfortunately regular travellers notice - skirting boards filthy, mould in shower, fridge dirty plus bath surrounds & doors etc. perhaps a fresh lick of paint wouldn't hurt? TV reception intermittent so we basically didn't bother
Positives - good size apartment, nice view over pool area & good size balcony, adequate cooking facilities (not that we used them), a coffee plunger (hooray), location location, lots of decent choices for dinner (see El Greko review) & right across the road from the beach & stunning sunrises.

Room Tip: if you have back issues ask for ground floor apartment as no lifts.

We loved the Mantra Amphora.........we were there busy Easter 2014 and you would never have known they were fully booked......the grounds are spacious and the pool is definitely the highlight........great for kids and adults. Were plenty of lounges around the pool and having Vivo restaurant on site was great too. No lift in the whole complex made it difficult as one of our family members is in a wheelchair.
The only negative is Palm Cove itself - there is nothing to do.....apart from all the day trip sightseeing, you just sit around the pool....at night after dinner, there is only a small stretch of area to take a walk and then you are at the other end........and crocodile signs everywhere warning they are in and around the beach........we didn't go to the beach once..........the Mantra Amphora was our only saving grace....at least we were bored in great surrounds. Restaurants are way over priced as well......

Room Tip: There is no lift in this hotel so if you have an issue with stairs get a ground floor room
