Owner description: Whitehaven Beach tours with Whitehaven Xpress. A family operated full day trip with snorkeling, swimming, bush-walking and a Whitehaven Beach BBQ. Whitehaven Xpress offers a full day tour from Airlie Beach, including a Hill Inlet lookout walk, Snorkel or Glass bottom boat viewing at Mantaray Bay and 2 hours on the Whitehaven Beach. Whilst spending the most amount of time on the actual Whitehaven Beach, we provide you with a fabulous Aussie beach BBQ including steak, sausages, chilli burgers, salads and tropical fruits. (Vegetarians are catered for on request) The BBQ is prepared for your enjoyment under the shade of the trees while utilising the National Parks picnic tables. On our homeward journey a platter of cheese and biscuits is served. Departs daily at 9 am from Abell Point Marina and returns approx. 5pm with courtesy van pickup. The daytrip is family operated with Terry, Jill, Dan, and Shane providing a unique personal service.

My wife, 6 year old daughter & I had been dying to see Whitehaven Beach in the flesh on our reef holiday after so long drooling over pictures on the internet, and it certainly lived up to expectations. Whitehaven Xpress was the perfect way to experience it, with a good balance of time between actually being at the beach, including the great BBQ lunch, the bushwalk up to THAT picture perfect view, and time snorkelling at Manta Ray Bay. Being a smaller family run business was nice, great service, starting with pick up in well presented company mini bus from our accommodation. The crew on board, Matty, Cuzzy & the Captain "Snickers" were all friendly, easy going & full of fantastic information & anecdotes about the area & clearly love their job. Matty really went out of his way to make our daughters day special. Learning she was an animal lover, spotting for turtles & dugongs for her & then on the walk back down from Hill Inlet Lookout, after branching off the main track to check the toilets before his visitors used them, upon finding a Golden Orb spider came bolting back up the path to find her & take us to see it & photograph it for her. Full marks for a great all round experience, would love to do it again someday.

“Not again...!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 May 2014 via mobile

We booked the tour, because our prio 1 was booked out. First appearal of the crew: funny guys, what was actually only funny in the first couple of minutes, after that it was just too much! As if they where on drugs. Paying with Creditcard cost an additional fee per person! Why per person? With 175 Aud per Person not the cheapest on, so 2 Bucks fee should be covered. In the brochure was informed that stinger suits were provided when necessary. We were very concerned wether we need one. Answer of the crew: it is still the same ocean. What? When my wife got "bitten" in the ocean at Whitehaven, the captain even answered jellys are only at the main beaches (how do the jellys know what a main beach is?) and that there is a lot of electricity in the water (are you kidding me?). After that he started his metal detector and searched the beach...
Lunch was ok. A lot of lizzards around and quality of food from other tour companies, eventhough cheaper much better (e.g. Ocean rafting).

Snorkeling spot was really dissapointing! Just dead corals, all grey and sight equaled zero. Snorkeling took like 30 min, but u certainly had to pay 8 Bucks per Stinger Suit even though other stated in the brochure.

Too expansive 4 what u get. Better go with ocean rafting!

“A good day.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 April 2014 via mobile

I enjoyed my day but felt the boat was a little overcrowded for its size. The two young men who were the crew were show offs, doing flips and mucking around all day long. I understand that young men sometimes feel the need to act like this but on the way home when everyone is tired it was like having a couple of 8 year old boys suffering from hyperactivity on the boat, jumping around and trying to get attention. All the stops were beautiful, the reef at wrasse bay was badly damaged due to previous cyclones so the coral was dead but plenty of fish life. The boat is loud but fast. I don't think I would pick this company again.

“Great day in Paradise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014

My daughter (11) and I had a great day out!!!!! The staff really make it very enjoyable they are very helpful, informative and caring. Asher (aka Jack Sparrow) was great fun he is a man that loves his job and knows how to cook, the lunch was great!!!! . Whitehaven Beach is a must to see it is just like the postcards. It is a smaller boat so it is a more personal and intimate experience instead of being in a massive crowd. From my research it was the best value way to see the Whitsunday's. We got to see a Manta ray, turtles and plenty of beautiful fish. It was my birthday that day and a great way to celebrate and the staff made sure they made it extra special. Don't think about it do it !!!!!!!!!!!!

“Skip it if the weathers bad”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 April 2014

OK - To start - crew were great, pick ups & drop offs were prompt and everything was pretty much as advertised.
When we booked we had concerns about the weather but the agent convinced us that even though there were predicted showers, in this part of the world showers disappear quickly which we stupidly believed & of course the weather was bleak all day.

Started with snorkelling which was average and wouldn't really matter what the weather was like. If snorkellings your thing - go to the barrier reef.

Second was Whitehaven Beach - which to us was pretty much just a beach. BBQ was good, water was warm & sand was nice but they really don't facilitate for when it rains. With the amount of tourist money that gets pumped into this place you would think they could rustle up some weather shelters since they already have benches, tables etc which I know is not Whitehaven Express' responsibility but still have to review on what happened.

Third was Hill Inlet lookout which was the highlight of the trip. A small 10 minute bush walk pops out from the trees for a spectacular view whatever the weather.

Tips :

If you have a baby - they provide a small fold up stroller since it's a small boat which is great.
Water is $2.50, beer $5 a can & Bundy and Coke $7 a can.

All in all $175 is a pretty big price to pay for what you get as are most things in the Whitsundays and If there is even a chance of rain I would skip or choose a different day as the longest part of the day is spent on the beach with virtually no shelter.
