“Good hostel - would be better if the air con worked!!”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

This is a good hostel, dorms are spacious. Rooms are ensuite, toilet and shower are separate which is a godsend when you have a ensuite. Beds were comfortable. Only major issue I had was that the air con was broken, reception were informed several times and didn't do anything, therefore it was ridiculously hot, this has affected the review, especially the sleep quality.
Location excellent, only about 2mins walk to the lagoon. They also have a really nice outdoor area, perfect for sunbathing and an on site bar.
Luggage storage is a bit of a pain as they only unlock is every half an hour and you have to actually be there at the desk pestering them when the half hour comes around.
Overall good hostel and met some awesome people.
Also note you have to rent cutlery as they do not have any in the kitchen, as it was so hot my food also went a bit dodgy which I was storing in the kitchen.

First impressions of Nomads Airlie Beach was that it was very large and a great place to meet people. We stayed one night because we were due to get on a boat for 3 days the next morning. We drove to the hostel so were eager to park the car somewhere safe, the guy on reception said that we could park in the car park for free for that night but would have to pay $10 for the others while we were on the boat. We were more than happy to do this because there were very limited place to park in the town. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable. Each bed had a plug point and a lamp. We stayed in a 8 bed dorm which had an en suit bathroom. The bathroom was very clean. The only problem was that the bathroom was open plan into the bedroom, so when someone got up to go to the toilet or shower the bathroom light shone into the room. The beds didn't squeak and the mattress was not lumpy. Out side there was a large open air bar, so at night there was loud music and shouting, but this never kept me awake. After travelling for over a year I have learnt to Carry a pair of ear plugs. Overall the hostel was great, and I would definitely go back."

Beautiful outside area with pool.
They organize some special nights (for exemple: thrusday with movie and free popcorn and free barbecue - if u buy the drink in the backpacker's bar) - which is really nice!
I was in a 8 bed dorm... It was ok, ensuite and air conditioner. The pillow is really bad.. If u have your own is better ( it's the reality in almost all backpacker that i have been through) .
They have a transfer to pick u up at bus station ( pretty old van.. Hahahah)
No free wifi
Storage : $2 per person (or something like that)
Camping area
Well located

Picked up from Bus station, couldn't check in but was allowed to use facilities and store luggage for free. Stayed one night either side of a Whitsundays trip. Rooms were extremely clean, spacious and air conditioned, with en suite. Grounds were lovely, including swimming pool.

Pick up provided from the bus stop. Very big and clean rooms. Rooms have 2 showers which is great when arriving back from boat trips. It is big and spacious! The pool is nice but as the lagoon is a 2 minute walk it's much nicer to lie there. The kitchen is spacious but there is a 20$ deposit to hire cutlery. Mango trees throughout which are delicious! Very fun very nice hostel. Although the internet is pricey!

When we arrived to Airlie by bus we were very disappointed to see that they did not offer a bus shuttle service, other Hostels were there collecting there guests.
our Room was good we stayed in a twin room that was huge,
The staff were so Rude, twice i went to reception to ask for information to be cut off as they answered the phone, and barley even answered my questions.

Hello, thank you for your review. We are sorry about the shuttle bus situation, unfortunately our bus driver let us and our guests down which in turn has caused some (understandably) disgruntled guests. We have now rectified this situation and hope that we do not have to let our guests down again. So for this hiccup we apologize. All our staff on reception are encouraged to answer the phone within 3 rings as we have many agents making lots of bookings for incoming guests on a daily basis these phone calls are very important to our business so we need to answer them. It's how 95% of our guests are booked in! Our in-house guests are also very important to us too so not having your questions answered in a detailed way is not what we train our staff to do. This is something we will go over with our staff so through this busy time we know that each one of our guests is looked after to the best of our ability. We apologize again and can only hope that if you pass through here again, we can make it up to you. Enjoy the rest of your travels! Slán go fóill!

I stayed in a 8 bed dorm and it was really clean. There was an ensuite bathroom with two showers instead of the typical communal bathrooms. Location just opposite the Lagoon. Unlike other hostels in Airlie which include popular and loud clubs, Nomads is nice and quiet during the night. Only minus: the kitchen. Way too small and way too little equipment (4 pots for how many people???).

Hello,
Thanks for taking time to write a review! We are so glad that you were impressed with our facilities and our rooms. Our kitchen is something of an Achilles heel for us at the moment. We are so busy that yes, we agree it is too small and we are looking into what we can do to improve this within our budget. As for the lack of utensils and pots in there, this is a bone of contention with us as unfortunately our supplies 'go missing' regularly and need to be replaced which we try to stay on top of, this is actually why we charge a deposit for cutlery so we know we have enough for the guests in the hostel. Fear not as the kitchen is something we will always try and improve but sometimes we have to work with what we are given, so in the mean time we will continue to think of ways to make the kitchen a better facility that is properly stocked for our guests. All suggestions are welcome! Enjoy the rest of your travels!
