“Seven days aboard a Whitsunday Rent A Yacht”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Seven of us rented a 12 metre catamaran for 7 days sailing on the Whitsundays in June.
Our compliment was made up of 3 couples and one 11 year old boy, (son of one couple) We are all in our 50's.
We chose Whitsunday Rent A Yacht mainly because of location and pricing. There are several other rent a yacht companies in the area, all probably offering similar packages.
Several of us had some sailing experience but not on a large Cat. We chose to have a "sleep aboard" on the night before our charter began. minimal cost and convenient. This is a good way to organise provisions for the coming adventure. There are companies in the area that do provisioning but they are quite expensive. We arranged for a shuttle bus from the airport and we had the driver drop off 3 of us at the Centro shopping centre in Cannonvale to start the shopping whilst the rest of us wen to the boat, got the keys so to speak and then persuaded the shuttle bus driver to drop us back at Centro. This is a great way to provision your own trip. Theres a great butcher (P & N Meats) a grog shop and a big supermarket that has everything you need for the trip.
The night was good aboard our Cat although at was a bit noisy from the boat rubbing against the wharf buffers.
Day 1 saw our sail briefing start at 8;00am. This was to take around 4 hours and was delivered in a most thorough and professional way that it instilled reasonable confidence in most of us aboard. The briefing covered all aspects of running and sailing the boat, the only criticism would be that the actual "how to sail " was a bit brief. I got the feeling the the briefer thought we would not be doing much actual "under sail" sailing.
The daily support from the staff back at Shute Harbour was excellent and very proffessional. They always had good and helpful advice as to where to sail and where to anchor depending of the daily weather conditions. We only had a couple of minor problems with the boat that we easily overcame.
Our seven days was spent in various locations around the Whitsundays that were for the most part dictated by the prevailing weather. We were unfortunate to have very strong (20 to 30 knot) SE winds for most of our charter so we were restricted to where we could anchor and where we could go. Thats just part of boating.
Overall the Catamaran, the Staff at Whitsunday Rent a Yacht mad for a great holiday that we all intent to do again.

“Great cruises”
Reviewed 16 May 2014 via mobile

We did a full day reef cruise which we thoroughly enjoyed. Comfortable fast boat with really friendly staff that were more than happy to chat and share their knowledge of the reef. We snorkelled, scuba dived, did a helicopter ride over the reef to Heart Reef and enjoyed the whole experience. Morning and afternoon tea (going out and coming back) and while we were moored at the reef, we enjoyed a lovely buffet lunch. A definite must do if you are in the Whitsundays.

We also did a half day cruise to Whitehaven beach, this also was a worthwhile cruise, the beach is beautiful with powdery white silica sand. We saw 6 goanna amongst the vegetation at the edge of beach, not at all phased by our presence, just absorbing the warmth from the sand. In the water......turtles and stingrays were sighted.

Lots of activities on the beach for children organised by the staff from Whitsunday Cruises. Afternoon tea was supplied on our way back to Airlee beach, yum!! My sister and I also cleaned our jewellery with the silica sand.......just an added bonus, polished up beautifully!!!

Once again a very enjoyable afternoon with very friendly fun staff, definitely a must do.

“Great trip to the reef”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

Very large fast ferry (26 knots) that takes you to 2 reef areas. We were lucky enough to travel to Knuckle reef that took just over 2 hours to reach. The boat / ferry ties up at a fixed pontoon on the reef to complete your water activities. - snorkling, underwater sub tour, morning / afternoon tea along with a good buffet. Had prawns included in the buffet. Paid another $119 to complete an introductory scuba dive and well worth it. Our group was 12 and we had a reserved area on the ferry in the air conditioned cabin behind the captain. Outside seats on the boat could be cool on the trip home if the weather wasn't good. We had perfect weather. Didn't see as many fish as I thought on the reef, but plenty of other things to view whilst snorkeling. Most of the trips go to Hardy reef and we were lucky enough to go to knuckle reef due to the number of poeple on our boat - 176 plus 22 crew.

“Terrible service”
Reviewed 17 January 2014 via mobile

This company is terribly overpriced and the service is awful at best. They are the only company operating this service therefore they have no need to care. What they are offering is fantastic and makes getting around the whitsundays easy. But firstly, we were going to catch the ferry from airlie to long beach. We went down to the jetty to wait for them. As we still had 5 mins to go until it came I ran back to the car to get something and in that time the boat came and left with my girlfriend standing there asking them to wait for 30secs while I come back. They left saying that they weren't going to wait. Then we went in to the office to book on the next ferry and the girl was not very helpful and was rude. She booked us on but gave us no information and sounded annoyed. Then we went to take our bags to the porter and he wasn't there. So I went to ask the girl what to do with our bags an she was annoyed again and came and gave us tags to put on and then left. We so went on a Whitehaven beach tour. This was very good. But the problem I have with this was that the tour was 15mins late leaving. Usually this wouldn't be a problem but the fact that the ferry couldn't wait for 30secs in the first instance made me very angry. Also when we went to get our tickets the same girl was working at the ticket counter and still had the same attitude.
