“Beautiful day with nice crew!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2014

This was a very nice day, we went to 2 snorkling spots which were really nice. There is not really space to help with sailing and i was a bit disappointed in the group of guests. There were only older couples and I was the only young backpacker. So that was a bit strange! Altough I enjoyed the day and the food was absolutely amazing! Nice salads, pasta, chicken, bread! Really good!

“Relaxing Day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

This ship has a lot of history behind it, much of which is talked about by the crew. They are very informative when asked about the different types of fish we encountered. The sail ship has a motor hooked up to it which got us to our destination a bit faster. About half way back upon our return, the motors were switched off and the ship relied solely on its sails. It was quite relaxing to say the least. They took us to two amazing snorkeling spots; Bali Hai (or Black Island) & Langford Island. Both had beautiful scenery. Wet suits were provided for us. Lunch was good too, I highly recommend this tour

“Fantastic Crew!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 June 2014

We had a fantastic day out on the Derwent Hunter. You can tell that the crew really love their job, they were welcoming and very informative.
If you love sailing, and want to give a lending hand to pull in the sails in and let them out, then this is the boat for you. It can be quite the hands on day if you like to get involved and you really want to feel a part of the crew.
The lunch was very tasty, with plenty to go around. The snorkelling spots were beautiful and we saw 4 turtles!
Our boat was at half capacity which was a very comfortable ride, with plenty of places to sit. It was pretty windy, so we actually sailed along without the motor running.
The conditions were a little choppy. If it had have been raining it may have been a bit uncomfortable (with not much room to hide below deck), but I did see some yellow raincoats hiding away down stairs.

The ship had a great history to her, and Josh knew it all. He was enthusiastic and engaging and it was great to know that the ship was so well travelled.
Later in the day, after having a few more afternoon snacks, Nigel filled us in on the corals and fish we saw during the day. He knew so much and we were all happy to learn from him!
Having done a few boat trips in the Whitsunday’s, this one is a relaxing slow paced ride along the open passage to some great snorkelling spots. Not many boats stop at Blue Pearl, Langford or Caves Cove so this is part of the Whitsunday’s you may not necessarily see on other tours. All in all a very interactive and informative day. :)

“A great day on a tall ship”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014

What a great way to sail the coral seas in a ship with such history. The Derwent Hunter is a stylish ship from the past and a great way to see some of the wonders of the Whitsunday.

I can highly recommend the experience, the crew, the ship, the food and most of all the experience of snorkeling on two beautiful reefs all in the one day.

If you want you can also help some of the running of ship for a real life experience and the crew were just fantastic and almost too real in some cases :).

A must if you want to experience tall ships and sailing and snorkeling on Australia's wonderful barrier reef.

“Amazing Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 May 2014

We had the opportunity to go out on the Derwent Hunter on 23rd of May 2014. The whole experience was amazing. The Captain and crew were just fantastic. That made sure that everyone had the opportunity to get out and snorkel. I personally was somewhat concerned as I suffer from a physical disability, but the guys made sure I got out in the water and had as much of a chance to see the reefs as everyone else. The catering was just great (thanks to Julie / Julia?) and then was plenty for everyone. It's definitely a trip that everyone should take for the pure enjoyment aside from the chance to learn something new about the reef and the surrounds. Can't praise these guys enough, it really was a most amazing experience.
