“Perfect stay”
Reviewed 26 March 2012

The Colonial Palms was a perfect place stay in Airlie Beach. It is in a very quiet location, but still close enough (8-10 minute walk) into town and the beach. The manager at the time, Colleen, was such a great asset to this hotel - she couldn't do enough for us. She even drove us to a large grocery store one day - we needed more than just a few things and the small markets in Airlie Beach are limited and expensive! Her daughter was a real sweetheart and very chatty. Don't remember Colleen's husband's name, but the whole family was just amazing. It was Halloween when we were there which is not a big holiday in Aus, but Colleen decorated like crazy, dressed up and provided Halloween treats for all the guests. Unfortunately, it was just a temporary post for them and they weren't sure how much longer they would be there - too bad. The pool area was this beautiful and relaxing little oasis to cool off in, lounge around, watch the birds and have a beverage. There were two pools; our room was off the bigger one. The rooms were generous, little kitchenette, bathroom needed updating but the whole place was slowly being renovated anyway. It was clean, and that's all we usually care about. We would definitely stay here again - 100%!

Room Tip: Poolside rooms are nice - you can just walk in and out of your room and the pool is right there.

When visiting Airlie beach my assuption is that you will not need to spend a lot of time in your hotel as it really is a small seaside town gpthriving on the reef tourism. Therefore this hotel met the basic requirements for a few days out on the ocean: clean, helpful staff, walking distance from the main dining/nightlife road and a small continental breakfast option.

We stayed in 2 rooms for the same price while one room (corner room) was almost twice the size with a spacious living and kitchen area and larger bathroom. All rooms had air conditioning and a fridge. Free wifi and parking are available for guests.

The pool is nice within a green setting. Breakfast was ok: a small selection of fruit and pastries, cereal and toast. The hotel itself has the allure of a typical American motel and could use an updating of furniture and a touch of paint.

All in all we had fairly decent rates compared to other lodgings in Airlie all the comfort we needed for a rest and wash and were treated nicely enough to consider this hotel as an option if we were to retun.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room

My girlfriend and i stayed here for 2 nights over the 2011 christmas period. As we were backpacking around Oz, we treated ourselves to an upgrade for christmas and the hotel did not let us down.
Customer service was first class, really fanstatic. From helping us pick our day trips to storing luggage we could not have asked for anymore from John, Bernie or Debbie.
The food was also first class, we ate on Christmas day night and it was a delight. The wine choice also supplemented the food.
Really cannot recommend this place enough. It is a no brainer for anyone staying the area, great value for money and great location.
Would also like to say thank you to Bernie for dropping my girlfriend and i off at the bus station Christmas day evening, this saved us the taxi or walk with our backpacks.

Definitely eat in the restaurant - Being foodies we LOVED the food. Staff were extremely welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The pool was divine and came with its own small water fall. Rooms are being renovated in style and we wish the new owners all the best - they deserve to be congratulated. Well done!

Room Tip: Check for renovated rooms.

A very relaxing hotel where the owners go out of their way to make your stay memorable. The rooms have been recently refurbished to a high standard and any problems are quickly sorted out. An excellent dinner in the restaurant. We would certainly stay again.

Room Tip: Overlooking the pool or bay and one of the newly refurbished rooms.

What a fantastic, relaxing and customer service friendly place! We will definitely be back. This is a family friendly, singles/couples friendly place. Beautiful pool, beautiful continental breakfast and so close to the lagoon and downtown Airlie Beach! Excellent value for money, beds are not too soft, not too firm, there are extra pillows and a blanket if you need it. The bathrooms are very roomy, the shower is great if your short or tall and theres even a mini tub for the kids if you have little ones. TV receptions is excellent and there is a small balcony overlooking the pool. The owners/managers and front desk receptionists are all personal able and help with questions you might have.

We truly enjoyed our 4 night stay here. Room is a great size, bed is huge and the view is really nice.

The staff went above and beyond our expectations, we had an issue with laundry and the manager fixed it very fast. They also had a plumber come through for some routine maintenance and the staff offered to buy us drinks while we waited the 15 minutes.

Highly recommend!
