“Away from the nightlife of Airlie Beach .....”
Reviewed 26 August 2005

Spent three nights here as part of the Queensland leg of our Australia tour earlier this year, and was very pleased with our choice of apartment. The apartments are on the hillside, but still only a short distance from the facilities of Airlie Beach. However, be warned ..... if you intend to enjoy the bars of Airlie Beach the walk back will be all the exercise you need for the day!! And if you have one of the uppermost apartments, prepared to be very out of breath.

The apartment was clean and quite spacious, although strangely the tub was very close to the bed. The view from the apartment was fantastic out into the bay. The pool whilst small did not get crowded and again enjoys great views into the bay.

The stay also included a free one day cruise to Hamilton Island and Whitehaven Beach. Remember to take your driving license with you, as you'll need it to get about the island. We weren't told, and walking was hard going in the tropical heat.

Good value for money, and we would definitely choose to stay here again, should we return to Airlie Beach.

We recently spent three wonderful days at the Pinnacles following a diving live-aboard. The previous review criticised the management, but it is no longer branded as Best Western, and everyone we met went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming; they even stored our luggage for us whilst we were away diving and waived the charge.

If you're from Europe / USA please note that in Australia "Resort" means self catering apartment complex, so there's no room service or in-house restaurant. Having said that, in the case of The Pinnacles they are quite literally 5* de-luxe serviced apartments, situated about 150 m above sea level, but only 750m from the sea, so the view from your balcony is amazing. All are fitted with designer decor, big TV with premium satelite channels, DVD player, air-con, laundry, fully equipped kitchen including US style Fridge with ice maker, etc... etc... There are some shared facilities like the health & beauty spa (we didn't use it), a vending machine for emergency snacks and an amazing infinity pool whch really is as spectacular as the photo on their website.

We opted for the two bedroom apartment with the jacuzzi and gas BBQ on the balcony, and because there were only the two of us, they offered it at a reduced rate with a "Lock-Off", ie they lock one of the bedrooms to restrict occupancy to one couple, but they even let you choose which one to lock off.

A couple of tips to make like easier:

1 forget the small food marts in Airlie Beach, choice is limited and quite expensive because they're aimed at back-packers (the bottle shops on the other hand are fine). Instead get a taxi to Canonvale Shopping mall (5 minutes & AUS$8). There's a supermarket, 2 or 3 specialist butchers, a bottle shop, a fishmonger and... and... and. Do all your shopping in one trip, then go back, fill your fridge & freezer, and get on with your holiday.

2 The Pinnacles will probably give you a limo voucher worth $10 per day, equivalent to a round trip down to Airlie Beach, because although you can easily walk down into town, you certainly wouldn't want to walk back up the 1:3 hill! The only limo firm who accept the vouchers don't wait at the rank in town, you have to phone them, and it can take 15 minutes for them to pick you up, so don't bother, get a taxi from the rank for $5. If you keep your voucher, you can credit it against a taxi ride back to Proserpine airport ($45 - $50).

We can't recommend the Pinnacles highly enough and will definitiely stay there if we ever to to Airlie Beach again
