“Fantastic views, excellent staff”
Reviewed 3 November 2012

We had been previously been warned about the steep hill but it still didn't prepare us for just how steep it was, but in saying that it really wasn't an issue. They have a shuttle to take you into town if needed, we had our own car so it was fine for us. I see it as if they didn't have the steep hill we would have been able to enjoy the awesome view. The rooms were excellent everything we could have asked for. The balcony was great. Unfortunatly my husband got sick while we were there, but the staff were more than helpful bringing me extra towels and straws at 10pm. There were a couple of hiccups with the room with the bathroom and washing machine door not working properly and the dryer thermostat was broken but maintanence came and gave us full access to the room next door to use the washer. And for my trouble my room service was waived. You really couldn't ask for more helpful and attentive staff. We would definately stay again. The location was just great! There is just one thing I would say though is that the showers need to have a proper screen on them as it is just a glass partition and water goes EVERYWHERE. It is a bit of a hazzard and the shower rose needs to be replaced as has seen better days (but show me a hotel that has a good shower rose).

You gotta love when you walk into a hotel room and everything is in there that is essential to your needs, we had a weekend without the kids but next time we come back with the kids we'll stay here for sure, the rooms have everything you need as a family.

From the moment I spoke to staff on the phone the bar was set high with some terrific customer service and information on the area. I asked the manager to pass on my compliments to the staff for their friendliness and willingness to help, which is the main reason we chose Peppers as a place to stay. After spending a week in Townsville, we were ready for some relaxing at Airlie Beach and also had Peppers on Magnetic Island (stayed one night) to make comparisons. Customer service on arrival matched our phone bookings and the holiday was off to a flying start and never backed off. Nothing was too much trouble and the friendly service flowed over into Tides Restaurant. Bit expensive to be eating there all the time but we did have a great lunch and dinner there....see seperate review.

Our room had a great outlook over the bay and new marina. The room was spacious and had a nice balcony.....one note on the balcony, it was shaded most of the day which we really enjoyed but if you are looking for sunshine on your balcony, you may want to ask about this. The room also had a decent sized spa which we enjoyed. I am tall, so some rooms that advertise spa's that an 8 yo would be lucky to fit into, so rest assured there is plenty of room in the room spas at Peppers.

There is a little bit of complaining on this site about the hill that Peppers is on and the walk up to the hotel. We loved this aspect but it may be pretty tough in the humid months of Dec-March. The walk into town takes about 10mins and is all downhill or flat. They do have a courtesy bus which runs in every two hours, or you can get a taxi. We enjoyed walking into town, a few beers, some dinner and a nice stroll home to work off the dinner. The walk home of course is flat, then uphill....steep uphill :-). You can take the courtesy bus home, or Peppers staff will come down on a golf buggy and pick you up at the bottom of the hill. We walked it each night and once we learned about the stair/lift combo we had two options...hard and not so hard to choose from. The elevation of course has the benefits of the grand views......very worthwhile. Well done to the team at Peppers, your service matched anything we have encountered in the last 5 years of reasonably extensive travelling.

One last thing. We did agonise over staying at Airlie Beach or going over to Hamilton or Hayman Islands. After staying the last night of our trip at Hamilton, we were very pleased with our decision to stay at Peppers in Airlie Beach. Much more enjoyable than the very structured and expensive Hamilton Island.

Room Tip: Rooms are in a tier formation, so you can get rooms on lower tiers that make accessing the reception...

Traverse the major hill for a spectacular view from the huge deck, add a comfortable serviceable 2 bed unit with a massive spa in the main bedroom and you have the elements of a great stay. I was with my sons and we requested twin beds in the 2nd room, this did not happen. We seperayed the beds Nd called housekeeping the next day to make up the beds, all they did was tidy what we had already done not perfect when sheets were missing from one half of the bed. Not the end of the world but not what you expect for $400 per night!

Stayed at this hotel for 5 nights at the end of July 2012, before going to Hayman island for a special birthday celebration.
The shuttle bus from the airport dropped us off and the resort picks you up with their own buggy and takes you right up to reception. So even though there is a hill to climb there is a shuttle run by the resort every hour to take you into town or its about 10 minute walk to all the shops and town center.
The apartments are very comfy and have great views with large balconies, really lovely set up with the swimming pool and restaurant close by on the first level. The staff were the most friendly and helpful people we have ever come across. We ended up staying there for a day after our return from Hayman and spent the day around the pool area . They made sure the shuttle bus picked us up promptly to take us to the airport. Food at the restaurant was great as well. Had dinner and lunch few times and it was of a good standard delicious Asian Tempura dish.
Would highly recommend this resort and would love to go back again.

Room Tip: The rooms above reception on the second or third level would be with the best views.

Peppers at Airlie beach is a perfect holiday getaway. The apartments are self contained and beautifully furnished with iPod speakers and a large balcony. The huge spa bath in the bathroom is wonderful and really gets you into the relaxed holiday mood. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful- some of the best customer service in Airlie. The restaurant is great too and I would definitely recommend dining there while you're here. The only negatives are there is still some construction going on near the pool which is an eyesore and Pepper's Endota Spa doesn't do room charges which is inconvenient. Overall but great holiday accommodation which I would definitely recommend!

Room Tip: The apartments are wonderful with a big balcony perfect for afternoon drinks and a huge spa bath

We stayed here for a night in the Dungara building after coming off a sailing cruise round the islands. The apartments are beautifully appointed, with plenty of space and lovely views overlooking the bay. The standard of cleanliness is excellent, and the washing machine was greatly appreciated for all our sailing gear.
We ate a couple of times at the restaurant, very nice food and lovely staff.
My only very minor criticism is that the pool is small and seating around it limited, but I guess most people are either in the Airlie lagoon or out on the islands!
Thanks Peppers, we are trying your Ruffles Gold Coast hotel next and looking forward to it.

Room Tip: There is some building work going on at the old Spa by the pool at the moment, and its starts early...
