Set high on the hill we were disappointed not to have a view of the Coral Sea, only bush & the estuary. You need to be fit & active & enjoy walking as it is very steep. Do not stay if you have any mobility issues. They will drop you down to the road in a golf buggy & there is a shuttle to & from town every 2hrs. It's a pleasant walk into town but do make sure you know where the shuttle picks you up from in town, we were at the wrong entrance & watched the van go by, so caught a taxi back with our shopping. Our check in was rushed, we were watched struggling up the steps with our bags by 3 people gossiping at the front desk, only to have to carry them down again to be taken in the golf buggy to our unit. Actually we were just dropped & pointed in the general direction. There was no milk in the fridge & it took 2 ph calls & over 1/2hr & my offer to come to reception to get some before it was delivered. Then we were given a long spiel about their current housekeeping issues. The apartment was well appointed & the generously sized spa bath was very much enjoyed. However the bed would have to be one of the worst I've slept in. It was hard & uncomfortable, not conducive to a good nights sleep & we both woke with sore backs the 2 nights we stayed. The buffet breakfast was poorly cooked so consequently we didn't have any other meals there. They kindly stored our bags for 3 days while we went sailing at no charge & after our poor check in the front desk staff were helpful. Smiles were lacking from the staff though. It certainly is not value for money & having checked out other places would stay at The Coral Sea although tired it's a fantastic location & views & easy walk to town, has a hire & tour desk or The Boathouse Apartments fantastic views, great eateries, close to town & beautifully appointed, great eating places. The Boathouse is run by Outrigger so the standard is very high. I've passed on my concerns to Peppers as normally their Resorts are great. A good bed is essential.

Room Tip: We stayed in block 6 mainly a bush view with some of the estuary. Not the Coral Sea view we'd be...

Our first stay at Peppers Airlie beach and it was a delight! Our one bedroom spa apartment was perfect. Spacious, clean set so high on the hill with amazing views over the Bay. The large square spa bath was beautiful. Loved the swimming pool and the whole surrounding landscaped area. Very relaxing. The buffet breakfast was great. All staff were friendly and helpful. Could not fault Peppers. We will be back. Thankyou

We recently stayed five nights and were very happy with the resort. Staff were very helpful, apartment clean & attractive. Bathroom overwhelmed by large Spa, which did not interest us; would have preferred more open space. Excellent breakfast included in tariff. Older guests certainly need a car, and it is worth asking for an apartment near reception & dining area to avoid hilly walk to breakfast.

We stayed here for a kid free weekend which we were very much looking forward to. Our room was very nice with everything we needed. The room was clean, spacious and the view was incredible! There was no complimentary toiletries at all which was a shame and when I rang to have some sent up, only the shampoo and conditioner were delivered. The bed was very hard and did not make for a good nights sleep. However, we had a fantastic weekend, the sun was shining and warm and we relaxed all weekend. Breakfast was fine, it's buffet style so there is only so much they can do and there was more than enough to go round. I would have thought though that a cappuccino would be part of brekky not an extra. Will definitely be back to Airlie Beach, would stay ap Peppers again, but it wasn't good enough to stop me looking for other places also.

Our experience with Peppers started with the steep climb with our luggage from the bottom of the resort to reception. Our bus driver attempted to call reception several times for someone to pick us up so we decided to make the steep climb with our luggage our selves (turned out to be a lot steeper then we realised). When we checked into our room we were disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. Thick dust from the aircon on the mesh in the kitchen cupboard, glass shower screen not cleaned thoroughly, shower ceiling dusty and the sofa was in need of a good clean just to name a few. Buffet breakfast which was included in our package was average. We ordered the worst Mojito ever which cost $16 each! Dinner at the restaurant was good. Views from the balcony were nice and staff were friendly.

Dear 411steff,

Thank you for taking the time to review our resort. My apologies for the state you found your room, I can assure you this is not indicative of the Peppers standard. If you are willing, I would certainly like the opportunity to discuss which room you stayed in so we can rectify the matter as soon as possible.

The apartment was fantastic - modern, spacious, comfortable, clean and well-furnished with everything you might need and I loved the huge spa bath. Like a previous reviewer I did notice a funky smell coming from the shower drain, and the shower is one of those stupid ones that doesn't have a door so you flood the bathroom everytime you take a shower. Also, 3 out of 4 bathroom amenities were empty - surely this is a basic housekeeping check!? The walls outside at the apartment entrance could do with a good blast wash!

Internet is free and works well. Lots of free undercover parking. Pool area is small but very nicely done. Staff are friendly. Buffet breakfast is below average in both quality and variety for this type of hotel - not much effort has been put into it - but it does go on until 11 which allows for lie-ins.

Location is a 10-15 minute walk from the main part of town and as others have said it's built on a hill and there are hills within the resort to, so probably not ideal if you aren't very mobile, although there is limited free transport to/from town. I liked the open-air feel and spacious layout of the resort with it being spread out over several buildings.

I wouldn't pay the full rate to stay here but it was excellent value at the "eco" rate I paid (no room servicing but wasn't a problem for a 3 day stay).

Room Tip: All have good sea views!

Just returned from a week @ Peppers and thoroughly enjoyed everything about the resort. Staff in all areas of the hotel are extremely friendly and nice. We stayed in a 1br apartment that was conveniently in the block behind the pool & restaurant which gave us direct access to these facilities. Apartment was clean with great views from the balcony where cockatoos visited in the afternoon. Spa bath was absolutely huge and a nice touch. Dined @ tides twice for dinner (separate review) and had breakfast included daily which was always enjoyable.
Had a really relaxing week at this resort and would definitely return.
Notes: yes the resort is on a hill but there is a shuttle that runs every 2hours / I walked into Airlie within 10minutes and it's good exercise also. The beds are quite hard but we got used to it. There is a cocktail passport which is $99 and entitles you to 10 x cocktails which is great value. There is a woolworths in Airlie so staying in a self contained apartment with full kitchen and laundry is always helpful. Would be nice if the on site spa "endota" offered daily or weekly deals to internal guests as other hotels do.
