Stayed in disabled room for one night. Parking was tight but parallel to room. Room had two beds and good kitchenette. Bathroom had rails and very low shower stool. Plastic garden chair supplied was appreciated. Staff friendly. Pity, the restaurant didn't have disabled access. Ate in town at Mt Lyell? hotel/motel opposite Empire Hotel - good disabled access, very helpful staff and great food.

Have stayed many times at the Gold Rush and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Reason for the many visits over the last 12 years is because I have been conducting tour groups from N Z to Tasmania and have stayed here enroute to enjoying the Gordon River cruise with World Heritage Cruises. The more than adequate accommodation, the very good home cooked style meals and above all the very friendly welcome and service received from Alice & Rodney just made my job so much easier. Brilliant!!

The motel is rather dated in all ways, but there is nothing else really in this town that is any better. About 800 mts from the middle of town, whch provides for a good nights sleep with little noise. Resteraunt is only open some nights. Rooms were clean but very dated.

Stooped here one night. Resturant not open. management very friendly.
Large room quit dark but clean small kitchen, tea coffee facilities. TV double and single bed , dineing table 2 chairs good size bathroom. You could walk to town but poor pavements(sidewalks) so we drove.. Ate at the Empire hotel food was really good and good selection of wine and beer. Although there are a good few cafes bars in the town.
You must visit the train station its excellent and its museum gives you info of the town and the railway.

Had a fantastic stay! Alice and Rodney along with the team made my stay exceptional. Very clean, comfortable, walking distance to everything, great restaurant, fantastic veiws. Perfect base to explore the West Coast of Tasmania. The West Coast Railway which took me to Strahan is just walking distance.

  • Liked — Great Value For Money, Location, Very Friendly, Excellent Service, Very Clean.
  • Disliked — Nothing to mention as everything was really great. Would really recommend to other travellers visiting this area.

From the terrifying drive down the steep road into Queenstown we pulled inot he first Motel we saw. We were surrounded by moon like pitted cliffs and low clouds. The scenery was surreal.

The Motel room. Basic but clean and WARM, It was freezing outside. The room was a little small, but it had all the basics. Tea/Coffee and toaster. etc The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows.

But the best surprise was the restaurant, a bit on the pricey side as our meal for 4 adults cost over $100. But is was the best meal we had in all of Tassie !! The atmosphere was like being at home, and the waitresses just lovely.

The whole experience to Queenstown was excellent enough to give this hotel an above average rating, and because after the drive in you just want to be safe on the ground.
