“Good value and friendly”
Reviewed 16 January 2014

We looked at the local pub hotel first, which was basic for what it cost and they recommended this motel. Just what we needed for an overnight stop over. Clean, comfortable and a decent shower at a very reasonable rate. The owner was friendly and provided advice on where to visit. Oh, we had a really good 2 for 1 meal at the Hotel too!

I booked this room through booking.com.
On arrival I paid with visa card and then went to the room, while unpacking the card the manager asked me how I booked the room and told me I had been quoted to much and gave me $20.00 back. The room was very clean and the water pressure in the shower was great. The motel is handy for getting to the wineries and the Hunter Valley Gardens.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 9 which is at the back of the motel away from the road.

We booked for 2 nights at the reasonably-priced Hunter Valley Motel as we were meeting friends and doing a tour of the wineries in the Hunter Valley. We arrived early and there was no problem leaving our bags there while we set off on the tour. When we arrived back our bags had been placed in our room and the hanging clothes in the wardrobe.
The room is comfy with a queen bed, 3 seater lounge, large coffee table, bedside drawers and 2 chairs at the benchtop. A kettle, toaster, cups, glasses and tea & coffee are provided but if you want toast, you’d have to provide your own plates and knife etc. The bathroom was ample with a larger than normal shower recess. A flat-screen TV offered ample program selection and the overall condition of the room was fine.
Plusses: The lady manager is a happy smiling and obliging person and there’s FREE WiFi. The motel is one of the closest to the wineries and is also about 50 metres from Oporto and McDonalds. The main street of Cessnock is only an additional short walk and there is an IGA supermarket close to the motel.
Minuses: Noise. Noise from the road where B-Double trucks rumble until night and start about 5am. Closing the bathroom door did little to reduce the noise. The motel car park has been resurfaced recently and the noise of the guests’ car tyres on the fine gravel is intrusive. Double glazing of the room’s windows would reduce the noise enormously, but would be a costly expense for the motel owners.
We cancelled the second night as we were only an hour from home and I was looking forward to a quiet night.

Would I stay there again? Maybe – for the price and WiFi

Room Tip: rooms away from the road may be quieter

Room 5 has had a 'freshen' up. Probably the external architecture and colour scheme has you more concerned than you need to be before entering. In our 3 day stay the most impressive part is lack of discovering anything icky, the more you look and the longer you stay you appreciate how truly clean it is including finger-swiping
the top of the wardrobe!
The shower is to be believed in regard to pressure... lovely! My partner declares best shower EVER had! Seriously big but genuine call!
Recommended improvements :
-fly-wire in front window and security door to enable flow of fresh air as these size rooms can quickly become stuffy all year round;
-two new (modern) bedside lamps, only 1 provided.
-light bulb renewal in main overhead; we didn't bring this to management's attention as we enjoy our privacy and frankly this is a basic daily maintenance check issue.
Would we return.... yes.

I stayed here for two nights as part of a group of three.

Like most things you get what you pay for. This motel was relatively reasonably priced (prices were a little higher due to an event in the town) - although for the standard rate of around $90 a night it probably is OK value. The decor was certainly very 1970's and is due for an overhaul although the air-conditioner kept the room warm, the shower had great water pressure and had hot water and the room had a new flatscreen TV. Be aware of some road noise.

The breakfast was quite cheap all things considered although given some of the fine dining options in the Hunter Valley, unless you were in a rush I'd be inclined to give the breakfast a miss and pay the extra few dollars for something a bit more lavish.

For a couple of nights given we were only there for about 6 hours it is acceptable if you only want the basics, although this isn't the finest accommodation in the Hunter. The staff seemed really genuine and honest however - which is always a plus.

Room Tip: Away from the road.

We did a day trip to Hunter Valley from Sydney and stayed in the Hunter Valley Motel for one night. The room was clean and nice, the air condition worked and the bed was good. I'm pretty sure this isn't the best Hunter Valley has to offer, but the price was reasonable and since we didn't spend much time in the motel this was really worth it's price.
So if you are looking for a romantic get-away this might not be the best place, but if you're just looking for a place to spend the night with a reasonable price, I'd say go for it.

The over all experience was positive.
