One of the problems that you have when you visit the Hunter on a weekend is that everywhere wants to lock you in for a two night stay. We only wanted to stay the Saturday night while attending a sporting event in the area. This pretty much restricted us to a motel room in Cessnock, and luckily I found the Wine Country Motor Inn.

After checking out their website and rooms on booking.com I chose a Queen Executive which has the bathroom in the middle of the room separating a small lounge area from the sleeping area. We were able to set our young toddler up in a cot in the lounge area while we watched television in the bedroom area (note they are not separate rooms, just a divided room). If it was just the two of us I wouldn't bother with the Executive Queen as it did make the sleeping area feel a bit cramped, however it served its purpose for us and was well priced.

We ate dinner at the Leagues Club which is a good option if you have young children as they have a small play area in the bistro to keep young diners entertained. The menu was quite good and the servings huge, although the quality of the food was nothing exceptional.

We were not provided with any information on check in regarding the breakfast or dinner options. Continental breakfast is available in the dining room, however we ended up getting a few supplies from Woolworths which is just a block away.

In short, the Wine Country Motor Inn is clean, convenient and well priced for a short stay.

The rooms at the Wine Country Motor Inn are of a high standard, and better than some hotels we have stayed in. The standard of cleanliness was very high and the staff were friendly. The location is handy to the Leagues Club if you were attending a function their, but we would not recommend the Club as somewhere to eat, it really should be avoided. That is the only issue with the motels location, the lack of anywhere decent to eat within walking distance. Getting a shuttle bus or driving out to one of the winery restaurants is definately recommended. Having said that we would have no problem in recommending this Motel to anyone looking for good value, very clean and well appointed rooms.

Very convenient to the sportmans club - we attended a function and was able to just walk across the carpark to our room. Rooms were quiet, staff helpful. Note you have to park your car in the carpark connected to the club - don't really know how safe this is but it is pretty well lit.

Stayed 2 nights in a King room over a weekend. Lovely room, doesn't really suit a 'motor inn' - was better than many hotels! Very comfortable with everything we needed. Still within easy short drive of all the Hunter Valley wineries and other attractions but at half the price!

We stayed at this motel on the June long weekend just past. We arrived early to just see if we could possibly get to our room and luckily for us it was ready. The room was clean and tidy. The Bathroom was great. I found the water pressure fantastic. It is a 5 minute drive to the outskirts of the valley and if you are driving you will have no problem. The motel is associated with the Cessnock Supporters club and I think you can get discounts but we didn't eat there that weekend. Our package also came with a free bottle of wine and chocolates from a winery which you had to go and get yourself. All over a good place to stay. We have booked our next stay for a wedding next year.
