“queue is so long”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

food is the typical din tai fung standard, freshly made and served piping hot. this branch is pretty new in chatswood, I guess they are still growing stronger as the food is not as good as the one in sydney cbd.

expect to wait average of 30-45 minutes during lunch hour for 30-45 minutes of eating time.

“Not up to Expectation ...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 June 2014

We were excited by the opening at Chatswood (so we do not need to go to City) but were disappointed by the food. The dumping is not that great, as compared with City, and most of the plates are very small in size. They charge $2.5 for tea per person (free for drinking water). We were not allocated a table of 8 until everyone is here even there was empty table available. The service is acceptable.

“Love Din Tai Fung, but some teething problems at their new restaurant”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

Having lived in Singapore, and also frequently travelling around Asia, I was thrilled to hear that Din Tai Fung had arrived in Sydney. After travelling to their World Square restaurant, and their new North Sydney restaurant, I was very much looking forward to visiting their new Chatswood restaurant.

While the restaurant has street access, you are directed to enter through the shopping centre. The restaurant is large, and there are plenty of tables for larger parties. To reduce the waiting time, you can sit at the bench, but this is located on the other side of the kitchen, so you occasionally get the odd flash of fire in front of you!

When we visited, it was about a week after they had opened. Around half of the menu had been sold out (we visited around 7:30pm on a Saturday evening) and they did not have any alcohol, despite it being on the menu. This might be due to not having received the licence yet for alcohol consumption.

With a young staff and a mixture of families and couples, I am willing to excuse the teething problems, and probably will head back there in a month or two to see if the same issues occur. While Din Tai Fung in Australia is not as cheap as other regions, it is still worthwhile for their Xiao Long Bao!
