This hotel was a solid place for my husband and I to stay at on our trip to Sydney. He once lived in Coogee and wanted to return. The Dive Hotel is by no means a luxury property or at the same level as a Marriott or Westin, but it had everything we needed for a stay which we didn't plan to spend much time in the hotel. It had a boutiquey charm that made us choose here over the Crowne Plaza.
The bed was comfortable, the air conditioning was excellent, the room was clean and there was ample space to unpack our clothing. The staff was kind, providing suggestions of activities in great detail upon request and helping us plot routes by bus into other neighborhoods and attractions. There are two communal areas, one indoors with juice, toast and cereal available at no cost for breakfast, and one outdoors. Lots of tourist material was available to take and read to get to know Sydney, events taking place and tour options.
The drawbacks were that the hotel property was a little stuffy, a little cluttered (materials felt to be sort of hoarded) and made me imagine if this is what a hostel was like, but we didn't expect a 4 or 5 star hotel. The bathroom was a bit tight and the closet had no door on it, but that didn't phase us. We weren't looking to lounge in the room for hours each day. We were staying at a beach hotel located directly across the road from lovely Coogee Beach. No frills was fine by us.
They do have a dog roam around the entrance and communal areas, so be aware if you have allergies. We didn't mind.
