We dined here with 11 of my extended family one Saturday night in October and were disappointed. Was recommended to go here from our friends who were locals. Whilst they hadn't eaten here they had drank here and found the atmosphere and the view great. They were right about the atmosphere and the view but the food was poor. Firstly (after the table had ordered) the waitress came out and informed us they had no Oysters left (found this very strange seeing it was a Saturday night and the location of the Forster). This meant only a couple of us ended up having Entrees. For Mains nearly the entire table ordered the Surf n Turf . The meal was presented well and the Steaks cooked to our liking but they were very fatty and tough! Not what you expect when you pay $38.00. In addition to the food being poor, so was the service. Our bottles of table wine were empty for quite a while before we got a waitress's attention to replenish. We won't be back next time we are in town.

We didn't eat here given the previous bad reviews, but staying down the street decided to go here for a drink. The location and views are stunning, and despite other reviews saying staff were rude, we found them to be very friendly and polite. Kylie was really nice, had a chat and recommend some local places to go. The other bar staff also seemed polite and attentive. Can't comment on the food as didn't eat here, but for pre-dinner drinks it's a great spot.

We stayed overnight in the Dorsal Hotel. Looked at the menu in the room, decided what we wanted, went down to the restaurant to order. The waitress said that the menu in the room was out of date and not current, so we couldn't order what we wanted. How hard is it to update the menu! We then ordered from the restaurant menu and was told they were sold out! Then we ordered a 750ml mineral water, waitress said they ran out! Brought instead 2 x 300ml and said we would be charged for a 750ml bottle, so we paid for a 750ml bottle but only received 600ml! During our wait for 50 minutes no one came over with an apology for the wait, or even offered a complementary piece of bread for the wait! The food in the end was quite decent despite the salad being smothered with salad dressing even though we had asked for the dressing to be put on the side. Windows were dirty and the carpets were grubby.

The Dorsal has been a favourite of ours for many years. We have had some beautiful meals there and been treated like royalty in the past. A change of management / chef a couple of years ago saw it take a dive and after a bad experience, we vowed that we would never go back. However, we were told that there was a new chef and that it had returned to "it's former glory" so last Sunday, my wife and I decided to go for our birthday celebrations. Big Mistake. The place was untidy and grubby, filthy windows and carpet being the two things that stood out. We almost left, but bravely stayed and ordered. Food came quickly and looked and tasted fine, BUT, O dear ! About two hours later, the stomach cramps began for both of us, putting on the shelf the rest of the days planned activities. The next morning, a little better, but still not good. NEVER AGAIN! Ron and Gay, Wallabi Point NSW

The Dorsal is a poorly managed establishment, such a shame considering the magnificent setting!
Every 2nd or 3rd time we have a meal here it's great, the rest of the time, not so great.
Poorly trained wait staff, dirty menus, dishes unavailable, surly woman at the front desk, booking cancelled at the last minute, we've experienced them all here.
If it wasn't for the beautiful outlook we would never go here, could be so much better.
